I completed a day of empathy training at my job that involved taking the bus to three different…read morelocations. A lot of the people we serve ride the bus so our training group wanted to see what it was like in the day of someone else. I come from a privileged position of not having to rely on the bus so I'm reviewing this in the lens of if this was my main mode of transportation. For the most part- the buses were clean and had the AC on. A few had some dirty floors as well as low working AC. The bus wasn't too crowded and you usually could sit by yourself. The bus drivers were very straight forward but most of them seemed friendly. Without Google maps, I'm unsure how most people would navigate the buses! It told us which bus to take- where to transfer and when the bus would arrive. When we did take the red line- the bus was coming every ten minutes. On other routes we sometimes had to wait twenty minutes for the next bus. After a full day of completing errands, you are exhausted from trying to catch your next bus. I think once the blue and purple line are developed that will help transportation more in Indy.

I was a guest for a surprise birthday party, in which we had rented the Broad Ripple party bus for…read morethe day. We had the bus from 1-8pm, and the plan was to meet Downtown and surprise the birthday girl. Upon arrival, the bus had broken day. We were unable to use the main door to enter the bus, but somehow we slid they the front seat to decorate and hope the bus would start. Our driver, Crystal, was incredibly nice and insured us it would start. The group waited outside for about an hour, until who I believe the owner of the van showed up. He was able to jump the van, with the stipulation crystal can't turn the van off any time. We completely missed the surprise, due to the van being broken down. Once it was "fixed" we were able to go on with our plans. The bus was old, nothing fancy, but it was clean. Crystal was a great driver, we just unfortunately had a bad van. Since I wasn't the renter, I'm not sure if any discount was applied. We had a great day given the circumstances.

First job I got when I got back from college, they were the best of the best with drivers and employees. But in recent years, the company went down. Owners became less caring towards their drivers. Made them work overtime without receiving the pay. Wouldn't allow "certain" drivers touching vehicles. The one owner has health issues and problems seeing. It's unsafe, unhealthy, unprofessional. They even got into an accident. The owners don't care about the 60-80 hour work week the drivers put in. Yelled at them if they go even 2MPH over speed limit. The owners took away drivers PTO hours if they got fired or left. They would not hire you back unless you were playing in their political system. They will also spy on you inside the bus or in the office. They hired back a Driver who made up stories, made up excuses, called off right before shifts, pretended to be sick. They have a high turnover rate due to one of the owners who "trains" them. The old employees have mentioned to the one owner that their spouse is the issue and needs to be replaced or fired. That owner will not do so as it's their spouse and blames the performances or training on other employees. The one owner of the company also goes out to the employees cars and takes photos inside of them while you're working and will talk bad about you if your car is a mess. They will say, "if your car is a mess, so will your performance." The owner will then say you are doing a terrible job and the HR will not say or do anything about it and will side with the owners to save their skin. That's how much of this company cares about employees and their customers. They have left customers at the airport numerous times and lie saying they called when they haven't. They would also not refund them and tell the customers to rate them 5 stars. The owners would also yell at their employees (CSR) if they missed a person even though they are handling phone calls and answering emails while the drivers or Owners would be in office watching TV or playing on their phones. If you are a customer or employee trying to go to Reindeer Shuttle, don't. The family who runs this business does not nor will not care about your safety or your employment. You are not in good hands, you are not going to be safe with certain drivers. You will not feel like you're going home or to the airport. They will take your money or your time. Even if you show them proof of your delay, they will still not refund you, they will ask if you want another shuttle time and if you say no they will not give you money back, they will give you gift certificate and end your ticket that day.

We had a wonderful bus ride with assigned seats. The bus was on time, clean, driver very nice. When we arrived in Chicago, we immediately found a flea market type street fair with different musicians playing, lots of small things to buy, food offerings etc. We were near Portillo's Hot Dogs. We walked along unfamiliar streets but never had any problems. We found lots to do and had a full day in Chicago. When we boarded the Megabus to return to Indianapolis, it was lights out on a beautiful experience with my 2 sons and a perfect ending to our shared memories of June 16, 2019.

During peak rush hour times and if there is construction, they are sometimes late/early to the point it seems like they just aren't coming (I've had to wait over 20 minutes a few times), but the City Bus app has real time maps that allow you to look where the bus is at before you leave. The buses are clean and safe- out of town visitors should definitely consider these as a mode of transportation. I come from a place where riding the city bus is dangerous, so this is a welcome difference. The city bus center is a nice building, and a good place to wait to be out of the cold.
