"The Chinatown Bus is the bus only masochists take." - one of my friends…read more Is this bus as cheap as megabus or greyhound? Nope; well, yes on holidays. (Always a fixed $20, one way.) Does this bus have wifi service? Haa. You're funny. Does this bus have friendly service? If you speak Chinese, maybe. Are the seats cramped? I'm 5'3 and petite so nah. My tall friends say otherwise though. Is there a bathroom? Yep, but youre better off destroying your bladder. Are you guaranteed a seat? Only if you're good at wrestling your way through crowds or squeezing through them like me. (On a real note, its not bad. It just depends when you go. Eg. On holiday times, a prepurchased bus ticket dont guarantee you a seat.) So why am I giving this place 4 stars? Why take this bus? It's convinent and flexible. The bus comes every 1.5 hours starting at 8:00am till 10:30 + some extra times (128 Central Ave to NYC) 11 buses in one day! Megabus and greyhound have maybe 4-5 buses each in one day. You can purchase tickets on gotobus.com with a credit card but they don't require you to buy a bus ticket ahead of time. You can just show up and get one (CASH ONLY.) Decided to make a spontaneous trip to the city in the next hour or woke up late and missed the bus you need? The Chinatown bus has got you covered!

Not the best but it does help to past the time and lets you check your emails. Some of the seats are broken. People always snack on the bus. So crumbs galore! Customer service is meh. Never had a problem with the Philadelphia bus but this one is definitely a "don't slow us down" kinda place. But for $20 one way, cheapest option I had for the trip. Took me to walking distance of Albany Med Center which is where I needed to go. Would I take it again...probably. $40 flat and 20 min walking from the hospital. No need for uber.

You get what you pay for…read more They advertise $5 fares, I've yet to snag one that low. But even when I've paid $50 for a one way ticket, there's not a cheaper/easier option to get to certain local cities without renting a car. So this is a company I'm happy exists, but really, really temper your expectations. I've had trips that went seamlessly, and I've had buses that arrived 90 minutes late in the freezing cold. Lateness is forgivable, you can't always account for everything, but their customer service is horrendous. You're going to be lied to, hung up on, ignored, you're going to be told conflicting information, you're going to have to argue and fight for any kind of compensation - and if you do receive it it will be in the form of credits to use towards future Mega Bus trips. But you can get those credits. Keep calling, keep talking to as many people as you can. The calls are recorded, so if someone says something they do have to be held to it. While refunds aren't given for lateness, "compensation" is given depending on the amount of time the bus is late. No one will notify you if your bus is running late, you have to call and the people who work for this company are clearly miserable, from the ones answering the phones to the ones assisting you on the bus itself. At one point I was told my bus was in Canada - 3 hours away. It wasn't. People left the line because of that information, but we all exchanged numbers and I was able to stall to keep the bus there until they came back. The WiFi often doesn't work and the charging ports don't always take the newest cords or are broken. But the bathrooms are clean, the seats comfortable, the rest stops give you ample time to use the bathroom and grab a snack.

I hate to give negative reviews to a local business, but I had really bad experiences lately…read more Surly, uncaring customer support, who today gladly had me overpay $30 for my trip. 5 different reps, zero f-cks to give! Couldn't even pretend to care! "Customer Contempt" department. My last trip broke down and was 4 hours late. And just as "icing" in the cake, today's bus home reeks of sh-t. This bus is only in emergencies for me now, and even then.. Please NY, bring us some better public transportation!!

The general experience of travelings with Trailways has declined steadily in the last few years,…read morebut a few really awful things stand out about the Kingston station location in my most recent experiences: - Station closes before last bus arrives. This causes a few problems. On my last trip (from Kingston to NYC), it was 22F out, the last bus was running late, and the station attendant closed the station and kicked everyone out into the cold outside. This is unsafe, especially if there had been elderly passengers with health issues. This is the result of Trailways NOT WANTING TO PAY to keep the station open with a worker. The station used to be open before the first bus arrived (mornings) and after the last one departed (evenings). This presents a safety hazard to elderly passengers when the temps are that low. You can't ask an 80 year old granny to wait outside in 22F. Trailways, what is wrong with you. Next, closing the station early makes it impossible to get a parking pass for the parking lot. Because you need an attendant to issue the pass for your windshield. When I call their customer support, their answer is "take an earlier bus if you need a pass". That's an answer from a company taking my money to get me where I'm going? Closing the station early (before last bus arrives) also creates another safety problem. I've had the experience where a heavy snow storm rolled in and dropped a ton of snow. The Trailways Kingston lot had not been plowed . The office was closed. No one to call for help or alert them that their lot was NOT plowed and no one could get their car out. I dug my car out (had a shovel in the car) and had AWD and good undercar clearance, so I could get out. I used my car to make tracks for other passengers who did not have AWD to get their cars out. Trailways staff meanwhile....nowhere to be found and no way to reach them since they don't post a number for the station and there's no one in the office when it's closed. - Station still closed before the first morning buses depart. Thus you can't buy a ticket or get a parking pass. You can buy a ticket in advance online, but how can you can a parking pass if the Kingston station is closed. You need an attendant for that. Trailways, do you actually want customers? Do you care? - Parking pass, when you can even get one, is now valid for only 3 days instead of the 6 days that it had been issued for in the past. Again, are you just trying to make it harder for passengers to use your service? - Incorrect info on website - When you search for a bus from Kingston to NYC the site returns results for Woodstock or New Jersey. If you don't carefully check the location (in smaller text), you might buy the wrong ticket. Why does the site return locations that were not in any way part of your search. You have to double check everything. NEVER worked like this before. Poor coding of the site. I stopped using Trailways for a few months because the experience had just become too frustrating (having to bend my schedule to the dwindling hours of the station). I took a trip this week and it reminded me of ALL the reasons I don't use Trailways. When I mentioned this to my fellow passengers in Kingston, they said it had been this way for months and is getting worse (buses arriving over 30 min late, not arriving AT ALL, website and 10 pack tickets getting harder to use, prices fluctuating wildly). Do yourself a favor, find another way to get to NYC from Kingston.

My first trip from Albany to JFK a year ago was great. But…read morelast night from JFK to Albany was not that good. I was supposed to be picked up around 6 pm but driver called and said she was ready to pick up around 4. It was good except I had no time to get water or food, and barely managed to change my SIM card to talk to the driver. (Why don't they use WhatsApp which would make it easier for travelers coming from other countries?) It was very hard to find the car. Driver just said "a very big black car" at the passenger pick up. Well, there are ziklinins big black cars at JFK, and very many pick up spots. After several calls (in a very loud and busy outside environment), she finally said lane D. It's a long lane. After I ran back and forth with 2 suitcases (I am 66 and have limited vision in the dark), she said D3. Even that place had several pick up spots. Finally we left JFK close to 6 pm. There were 5 passengers, one of whom spoke very loudly throughout the ride, discussed political issues with the young student from Serbia, shared her opinions etc. I was very uncomfortable. And loud. I did my best to keep my mouth shut, as did the other two women in the van. There was no water, snacks or scheduled toilet breaks. No announcements of seat belts, bathroom breaks etc. There was a small accident (not our driver's fault and no injuries) which caused another delay, and a subsequent loooong and looooud discussion by that same very talkative woman and the young man. By then I was getting a bad headache (hunger, dehydration, jet lag, and all this noise including the driver playing the radio. She never asked if it bothered anybody. After Kingston I moved to the back of the van hoping to get away from the loud passenger and the radio but music was even louder in the back! Also the ride was very loud and bumpy there as well. When we finally stopped at the Albany airport I had another anxious moment because I did not see my backpack with all the luggage. Turned out that the you gman from Serbia grabbed it and placed it on the sidewalk. He meant well, tried to help, but imo, it was the driver:s responsibility to safeguard all the luggage. I will use this service again since there are very few choices to get to JFK, and I do travel a lot, but I wish the company takes notice of these issues and improves drivers' training.
