I swear this was one of the worst traveling experiences of my life. I booked a trip from Albany to New York at Maybe around noon or 1:00 PM. When I got there, I had never seen any station so dirty and unsafe in the middle of the day and I'm from New York City! As I walked in, I realized that there was no one working at the desk. It was pretty much a free-for-all, and I wouldn't dare touch the bathrooms or the seats with a ten-foot pole because I knew that would be unwise. My family didn't feel safe leaving me there on my own and for good reason. This place was so bad. Finally, someone approached the front desk to answer questions and told us that my bus had been delayed and that he couldn't give me a time for when they would get a new driver. The app wasn't being updated and there was no way of knowing what was going on because no one could or would answer my questions. I ended up booking a bus with another company soon after I gave up on Greyhound, which was fortunate because they thought it was too late to book that bus. I will never, ever come back here again. I typically believe in second chances, but not this time.

Greyhound used to be an American staple of comfortable travel. Then the Europeans bought this company and now (I was told) run it into the ground from Texas. When I bought my full fare in Oct., the bus in the morning of my purchase never showed up. A crusty old teller (drunk as a skunk - eating a hoagie) said: "Yes the driver was too drunk!", with a smile. The Greyhound Bus would not reimburse me the $40 for the ticket! I was forced to buy a second ticket with Adirondack. This bus station is a dilapidated shanty. I will call Greyhound and make a formal complaint. Greyhound are sleazy and unreliable. One lazy Greyhound attendant said that the company based in Texas lost control of the guidance data governing all the buses in New York State and sent out too many buses - all the people (elderly were included) had to disembark in the dead of winter and walk back to the bus shanty. This bus area and Greyhound are more corrupt and criminal than Ethiopia! Review: worst of the very worst

What should be a restaurant! What?

The Albany bus terminal is filthy & creepy, I'm going to need a shower as soon as I get to my destination. Don't even go in the bathroom, scary. If I realized it was this bad, I would've taken a plane.

    Lousy puke filled bus stop

I'm disgusted to the extreme and appalled beyond belief. Everything that went wrong DID. Late bus always and delays, misinformative ticket, sketchy area. Zero stars, disgusting establishment. Atrocious. Should be condemned immediately. Lousy no good low life bus stop.

I have now used this particular bus station twice for Boston-Albany travel. THE PROS: --MUCH faster service to Boston than Amtrak. Amtrak goes from Boston to Albany once per day at a very inconvenient time (leaves South Station at noon) and takes 5-6 hours to complete the trip. The same is true for the return trip, which departs Albany at about 3:30 daily...when it's on time (which it never, ever is). Conversely, buses travel between Albany and Boston several times per day. Depending on your particular route and traffic, it will take you between 3-4.5 hours to travel between the cities. I made it in less than 3 today. Hella better than Amtrak. --Cheap. My last minute one-way ticket was $37. It would have been twice that on the train, if it wasn't sold out. --Vintage Helvetica throughout the station. Made for a nice Hipstagram on my iThing. THE CONS --The location: It's gnarly. It's really, really gnarly. Don't hang out in this neighborhood alone at night. I'm from Albany, and every time I pull into this station I think, "ah, yes, now I remember why I couldn't wait to leave this city!" --The smell: Smells like an old-school McDonald's. You know, before they "cooked to order" and had to post the number of calories every item has on the menu. This smell permeates the entire station at all hours due to the activities of an on-site "restaurant." Really, it has no name-- it just has a generic sign that says "Restaurant". Huh. --The confusion: Am I in the right line for the right bus? Who knows? The loudspeaker is wholly unintelligible-- I second the comment about Charlie Brown's teachers being in charge of announcements. You can't be shy here-- ask an employee if you have a question. THE VERDICT: Not a bad option for Boston-Albany travel. For Albany-NYC travel, I would highly recommend Megabus (leaves from a spot near the Amtrak station across the river) or just plain ol' Amtrak, as overpriced and slow as it may be. For Montreal-NYC travel, take the train. Or suck up to a person with a car. The choice is yours.

Luckily, for my trip to Montreal from Columbus, I only had to switch buses twice. Once in Cleveland and then again in Albany. For one of the more major stations on the Greyhound route, the station was not one of the better ones (Syracuse was MUCH better). This one did have a small restaurant, restrooms, and a ticket counter, but it was way too small for the amount of people who were waiting to board buses here (our bus was completely full). Maybe it was built expecting lower traffic, but to make it a major hub on their routes it needs some updating. One nice thing about it though is that the routes that depart from here to points in the North, East, and South (sorry Western cities) are on the new buses. These buses have larger, cushy chairs with a few more inches of legroom, outlets in the seats to recharge those drained electronic devices, and best of all, free wifi that kept me thoroughly entertained on the rest of my journey.

Had internet. Were on time. Had assigned seating for only $1.50 more; so could sit near a window.

Should I be worried about my safety while waiting for a bus transfer here during the middle of the day?

No, you should be fine. Just make sure that if you see anything to go to the nearest person in charge and say something. Keep all your stuff together and wait for your bus. I haven't had any situations where I have had to worry about my safety.

My first trip from Albany to JFK a year ago was great. But…read morelast night from JFK to Albany was not that good. I was supposed to be picked up around 6 pm but driver called and said she was ready to pick up around 4. It was good except I had no time to get water or food, and barely managed to change my SIM card to talk to the driver. (Why don't they use WhatsApp which would make it easier for travelers coming from other countries?) It was very hard to find the car. Driver just said "a very big black car" at the passenger pick up. Well, there are ziklinins big black cars at JFK, and very many pick up spots. After several calls (in a very loud and busy outside environment), she finally said lane D. It's a long lane. After I ran back and forth with 2 suitcases (I am 66 and have limited vision in the dark), she said D3. Even that place had several pick up spots. Finally we left JFK close to 6 pm. There were 5 passengers, one of whom spoke very loudly throughout the ride, discussed political issues with the young student from Serbia, shared her opinions etc. I was very uncomfortable. And loud. I did my best to keep my mouth shut, as did the other two women in the van. There was no water, snacks or scheduled toilet breaks. No announcements of seat belts, bathroom breaks etc. There was a small accident (not our driver's fault and no injuries) which caused another delay, and a subsequent loooong and looooud discussion by that same very talkative woman and the young man. By then I was getting a bad headache (hunger, dehydration, jet lag, and all this noise including the driver playing the radio. She never asked if it bothered anybody. After Kingston I moved to the back of the van hoping to get away from the loud passenger and the radio but music was even louder in the back! Also the ride was very loud and bumpy there as well. When we finally stopped at the Albany airport I had another anxious moment because I did not see my backpack with all the luggage. Turned out that the you gman from Serbia grabbed it and placed it on the sidewalk. He meant well, tried to help, but imo, it was the driver:s responsibility to safeguard all the luggage. I will use this service again since there are very few choices to get to JFK, and I do travel a lot, but I wish the company takes notice of these issues and improves drivers' training.

We rode on Bus #43, and the second TV monitor on the right was terrible - it blinked off and on the whole trip. On the way home there was a major malfunction of the Air Conditioning that had water pouring out of the overhead bins onto many passengers. Some of the water was brownish and disgusting. Must have been some sort of a drainage issue. So how did they "fix it"? Easy- they shut off the overhead AC on a day that saw triple digits of temperature.
