Although I can walk down to the plane, the attendent suggested that I remain in the wheelchair and I would be boarded early. I want to highly recommend your employee, Bernard. He changed my seat to one closer to the front of the plane and when we had to deplane, he immediately booked me on alternate flights to DC, ORD and TUS. As it turned out, the needed part arrived, the plane flew to ORD and I did not have to go through DC at all. But Brnard was by my side during the whole process. I want you to know that his service was above and beyond what was expected. I hope this letter is put into his employee record for he made my day so much less stressful!

This is what happened on a recent trip, and what ensued warrants any number of descriptors but for now, I'll use 'a slap in the face' and 'a disgrace.' Picture this: you left a brand new phone worth several hundred dollars on a plane seat largely because you were feeling under the weather. You notice the missing phone only after you return home and it's past midnight. Apparently the airline uses a third party company to handle lost and found, so you file a report as soon as you can, and they tell you it takes up to 30 days (?!) for them to get back. Weeks pass by and no word, and you're left wondering: how and why in the world does it take that long for them to get back to you? Who found my phone and what happened to it? What's American Airlines' actual process for handling and returning (or not returning, in this case) any valuable passengers leave behind on plane seats? Mystery not solved.

I just wish they were more transparent as to why the delay for hours. I didn't arrive home until 3:30am. First plane was delayed and I only had 45 mins for the connecting, which luckily was also delayed. The first plane delay-we were boarded. Then they wanted to check everyone's ID's. No explanation! We ended up being delayed about a half hour. I think it was a passenger that thought she didn't have a seat or something. It was a full plane. The second plane-hours and hours. No idea why. It's just frustrating not knowing why. It was a long day of working then traveling. I was grateful it was delayed so I didn't miss it but it was late and there wasn't anything open at Atlanta Airport at that hour. I ended up landing home in the wee hours and having to scrape ice and snow off my car. Just a bad trip. I'd fly Delta again because their planes are cleaner and a bit more roomy but they need to work on communicating the reasons for delays.
