Signature grass jelly is heavenly, on a hot day, eating that ice mixed in with grass jelly and little bit of half and half provided to you. Divine. Don't care for the mochi pieces as much because they're just dough and not sweetened. Only one ordering machine kiosk so it takes a while to wait your turn. There are lots of prompts to go though so I can see why it takes long. Can't order in person due to staff shortage. Kiosk will ask for your phone number but I didn't get a text until I was done eating. Been to Meet fresh a few times so quick review for the first time. Taking off one star for the confusing menu and ordering system. Maybe for us older folk it is not intuitive but for the young kids they seem to deal with it easily. OK for the dessert itself, shaved snow 5 stars for sure. Super tasty and definitely hits the spot and the serving sizes are no joke. Unlike other places which give you a skimpy serving. Place is bustling and may be difficult to get a table. But be patient. I believe it is self serve to clean the tables but maybe we go when its busy so the tables are not the cleanest. Bus your plates to the station before leaving as well. Came to Meet Fresh after eating dinner nearby. We were craving something sweet and cold and ended up getting the mango and strawberry shaved ice, coco sago special, herbal jelly with tofu pudding, and passionfruit sorbet to try. We were splitting between 8 people and this was the perfect dessert to share. Loved the tofu pudding and herbal jelly which is a great combo if you want dessert but something not too sweet. Starting with the good: their grass jelly is really good. Texture, taste. I haven't found too many places with better. Their mochi and taro balls have the right amount of flavor and sweetness. The bad: ordering process is a bit complicated/annoying. It's not easy to order from one's phone since their website is not entirely intuitive with the many choices and combinations. That leaves a line of customers waiting to use the one kiosk while the one person standing in front of it stares at the screen while pondering their life's choices. Came here one night and thanked my lucky stars for being able to access the kiosk right away. Placed my order and was told that they can longer fulfill my order since everything was already put away. They offered to refund my money but it'll take 2-3 days. I am annoyed since I walked in with a fully lit "open" sign and a store full of customers. If they were to stop serving customers, their kiosk should have popped up with a message saying that they are closed. Please keep up with the technology that's available. A timer to turn off the open sign and some simple programming so people can't order when the place closes will help with operations. read more

Definitely a "leave half of it behind" kind of place. Unfortunately, most of what we ordered was pretty mid, and we ended up leaving a good portion of the food behind. The ordering machine asking for a tip before you've even received anything was also a little much. There wasn't really any customer service involved in the process to begin with. And then there's the 35¢ charge for a plastic to-go bag. I understand charging for bags, but when you're already paying for takeout, it feels a bit excessive. Zero star I had an extremely unpleasant customer service experience at the Meet Fresh San Mateo location tonight. I wanted to pay with cash, but the young Asian female without glasses cashier told me they couldn't accept cash. When I asked if I could pay with a $20 bill, she refused to give me any change, even though my order was less than $13. I told her I was completely fine receiving $5 or so in change, but she still refused to serve me. Fortunately, another middle-aged cashier stepped in and was much more helpful and respectful. He took my order, accepted my cash, and gave me the correct change. What made the experience even worse was that the first cashier later came out, laughed at me, and said something along the lines of, "You didn't get any change, right? Nobody uses cash anymore." She also made a comment that she "only talks to grown men." I found her behavior extremely rude, disrespectful, and inappropriate toward a customer. The other cashier was kind and professional, but unfortunately, the first employee's attitude completely ruined my experience. Customer service should be about treating every customer with basic respect. After this experience, I do not plan to visit this Meet Fresh again. read more

Good selection of food and drinks. Came here around 2:30 PM. Very slow, maybe like two parties inside. Three staff members at the cashier. It was very dark inside and pretty quiet. I saw lots of signs everywhere which felt a bit overwhelming and welcomed. Also there's a sign that's says no mask, no visit and another sign you see from the inside, infront of the door says vaccine. So that made me super uncomfortable just the vibe and energy. Also there way they gave us the egg waffles were just paper in a bag. We asked for the box that other places give out and they said they never gave out boxes. I pointed at their shelves that it was those boxes and they said it was decorative... omg... my mom and I are (wtheck) inside. I've honestly lost count of how many times I've been here. It's always lively, but the dine-in area is spacious, so I can usually relax without having to wait for a seat. Whenever I'm craving Chinese desserts, I love how many options they have. Since there are so many great restaurants nearby, I often stop by here after dinner for dessert. One of the best parts is that you can customize your dessert with your favorite toppings and make it exactly how you like. The good - the sheer number of dessert menu items, there's probably something for everyone. Drinks, egg waffles, shaved ice, jellies, ice cream, fruit things. And while there are tons of boba places around, there aren't other Asian shaved ice places around. Large location fits groups and they have a sink and water station. The stars are service. If you had an air fryer or toaster oven, it would have been easy to warm this up. I just don't understand what took so long for a 30 minute wait time on food & drinks. Drinks were obviously hard to mess up on and easiest to prepare. Tofu pudding was okay on taste, but bad on presentation. Instead of the traditional larger pieces of tofu, it's mashed up into smaller pieces. I'm glad it was served warm, but I was disappointed w/ the execution. Not horrible, but it wasn't great either. I usually love Meet Fresh locations due to the cafe seating and fun desserts we can try but this location did not compare well with other locations I've visited. I've been to this location 3 times so this is a review of my overall impression of the San Mateo Meet Fresh. The times I've come, there is never a cashier taking orders; everything is on a single kiosk. This makes the wait very long to even order because each party takes awhile to key in their orders (+ if they want to customize their bowls). Got a Hot Red Bean Signature Soup with added almond pudding. Almond pudding is always 10/10 imo. I knew the pudding comes cold and I keyed it in as a side order (not wanting it directly in the soup) but when we picked it up, it was floating in the soup...... We picked it up as soon as our number was called and the "hot" soup was cold due to the almond pudding. The other time my party got a signature shaved ice but the ice had no flavor at all compared to other locations that had a creamy taste to the ice. We saw multiple trays at the tray disposal with heaps of untouched shaved ice probably due to this reason. I still like the amount of seating space and the tables are big enough to study at/play games as well. But def not as great quality of food as the other locations. read more

My experience with this location's Meet Fresh was decent. I understand the complaints about the self-service kiosk and I agree; it is slightly unclear on how to order, and there was lack of confidence on whether my friend and I would get our orders or not. The place was around 60% full on a weekday night, and this is one of the smaller locations I have been to. We ordered their Herbal Tea with less sugar and the Matcha Red Bean egg puff waffle. We didn't hear our order number being called, and we realized that it was actually ready, with our order being in a different spot when we came to check. The Herbal Tea lived up to my expectations. I wish that the egg puff waffle was a bit more crispy, but I am unsure how long our order was waiting before we received it, and the red bean might have made it harder to get the usual crispy taste we were looking for. read more

The cold grass jelly signature was yummy, I selected less ice but I regretted not getting more when I got my dish! The ice was infused with the flavor of the creamer and grass jelly which made for a crunchy texture and yummy flavor, but it melted very quickly of course. The fruity melon jelly flavor went well with the herbal grass jelly and light creamer flavor, and the taro balls were perfectly QQ as expected.
