Refused to talk to me regarding refunding money I paid for my wife and son's CNA class, stating they didn't do business with me. They said they will only to talk to the wife, disregarding the fact that my son is a minor, and I can definitely speak on his behalf. Did an RN refresher course with Medstar Academy, before i signed up they would call me non stop telling me what a good fit i would be there and how hands on the staff and course was. As soon as i paid, i stopped hearing from them, the few times i did get to speak with my director she would not help but talk to me in a belittling way as if to make me feel stupid for the questions i had. Absolutely the worst experience i have ever had with a school. Was able to finish, no thanks to her. Just glad i never have to deal with them again. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I have been in correspondence with your Student Service Administrator since receiving the postponement email on October 14. Another start date was not a feasible alternative for me, so I chose to withdraw. I was told that it was not within MedStar's policy to offer refunds, but I submitted the request in hopes that it would be granted. (Your financial agreement is ambiguous and DOES NOT include a disclaimer pertaining the withdrawal of a student prior to class beginning). As mentioned previously, I am being charged tuition for classes that I have not nor will ever attend. I would be happy to furnish the email correspondences that were exchanged surrounding this matter. It's unfortunate that a business would not return funds for services not yet rendered; I will continue to explore other modalities/resources available to facilitate the return of my cash paid tuition installment. 11/4/2014******UPDATE******The following is portion of the email that I received after posting my first review: "The policy for refunds also states that only in circumstances of death of an immediate family member or illness precluding you from completing the course, would the tuition be due in full, so at this time you are technically still responsible for the remainder of the tuition and as such could be subject to collection efforts. We rejected the request for refund, because based on the lack of information, it appears you do not qualify for a refund per our policies and per your signed financial agreement. " So, in addition to NOT receiving my refund, I am being threatened with COLLECTIVE ACTION. I have already contacted the BBB, and am reviewing the states statutes set forth for private post secondary institutions. The AZ State Board for Private Postsecondary Education has a complaint procedure that will be followed as well. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would I have taken this class 2 times now. The first time all it was was money money they teach you so much stuff in one day that you can't possibly learn it and then want $$ when you fail a test to retake it. The second time I took this class I went one night. The instructor was yelling at everyone instead of showing them what they was doing wrong. I went in the next day and asked for my $200 back and they said I could move classes. No thanks with the way your acting towards me. So they still have my $200 for nothing. This school was great! I am already in school and about to start my nursing program so this CNA program was pretty much just a refresher from everything I already learned. So I thought this program was really easy. If you study the chapters and the papers they give you, you'll be able to pass. I passed every test on the first try and passed my state test on the first try to get certified! The only down fall to this program is if you fail a test they make you pay to retake it, even though I never had to I think it's unfair for those that did. You already pay so much for the program in the beginning why make us pay to take a test again. read more

I am so happy I chose this school for my CNA certification. The school provided so much in the lessons, handouts, textbook, and in the actual practice of skills. My teacher was awesome. She had so much experience with all of her years as an RN. The school encouraged practice within class time as well as more if we wanted. If you study and practice the information provided, you will pass. I received a 96% on the written test and 100% on the skills test before the state board. Thank you! read more

medstar was not worth it and now having gone through this experience i don't recommend medstar as a school to become a cna I was Very disappointed with my experience at medstar(it's all written down in my diary) i don't usually complain but so many things created a negative experience for many of us at this school i was originally excited about this school it had some good evaluations on the internet(this will not be one of them) and it was convenient that i didn't have to drive too far and located on my side of town many of my classmates said that "compared to other schools" medstar doesn't provide half the stuff other schools provide" (something i didn't know at the time), so i wasn't the only one complaining and had a bad experience at Medstar i was unhappy and many of my classmates were unhappy as an example medstar doesn't provide blood pressure equipment (even though taking blood pressure is 1 of the skills you are required to learn so you can take your state boards as preparation to be a cna) here i spent all this money and they don't even provide a BP cuff & stethoscope, despite medstar being one of the more expensive cna schools many times it seemed like pulling teeth just to get provided things like gloves so we could learn and practice skills one of my classmate said "seems like every time we need something its never available in this school and they try to charge us for everything other schools will provide for you" we would be doing a skill like making an occupied bed(another state board skill) and there was not enough sheets during class each time we would talk to our instructor and complain because we needed these things, and he tried his best to get us what we needed the instructor even had to go to a local store to get us gloves because there were no gloves in the school to practice skills and that's really the only positive i have to say about this school was the knowledge and caring our instructor demonstrated and taught so that we could become good cnas he taught us everything we needed to know, had a good sense of humor, and really helped us(i really liked him) my only criticism would be that at times, he gave to much leniency to some of the students who would goof off, and were disruptive but to be fair, many times these students were devious and would do it behind his back when the instructor was helping other students still it was frustrating to many of us, who had spent our hard earned money that disruptive students would make us uncomfortable and disrupt us from doing what we needed to do when some students complained to poc and administration about these disruptive students nothing happened, they just blew off our concerns administration and poc was a mess at medstar there was just too many examples of chaos(i will only mention a couple of them, but there were tons of examples) for instance there was the time 2 students were given a test, and it turned out the test was an old test and therefore even though they had just spent over an hour to take that test were told (in the middle of our class) that they were given the wrong test and needed to take the original test they were supposed to take so the school had old tests and hadn't gone through their test inventory, and made sure that only new tests were in that inventory and were given to me & my classmates these 2 students were my classmates and they were not happy about wasting their time taking a test that "didn't count", and i don't blame them in general the tests we received at medstar were like the school just randomly chose questions with no thought whatsoever, there were so many questions on the tests that had the exact same question and answer a few questions later I'm not kidding the exact same test question i was really disappointed i studied to be prepared for these tests, talk about a disorganized mess, and disorganized school just before we were done the end just confirmed how bad this school was, because a couple of days before we took our final, medstar sent out an email saying 1/2 my classmates couldn't take the final, and then it turned out later(that administration had made a huge mistake) and pretty much all of us could take the final exam but this was only after many of my classmates freaked out because they thought they had failed and this was before many of us had been tested on skills, so it just added to all of us being really stressed out there was just so much drama associated with this school administration just seemed like they never really cared about us, and just cared about getting our money there were alot of problems with the medstar school and the way it's run do you see what i mean by saying this experience was really not good and that medstar is really not a good cna school that you should go to read more

MEDSTAR ACADEMY is the place to get your certification for CNA,LNA, PHLOPOTOMY, PHARMACY. It's affordable and they provide you with your own equipment to practice to make sure you pass and feel comfortable doing your skills. The staff it's awesome they help you every step of the way, they would take time to help and answer questions or any problems you may be having. I am pleased and happy to have attended this school. The staff is helpful and pleasant, attending every class, and asking questions, and lots of practice, practice on skills will make you pass. It took me time to get in but it was worth the wait the help that I got every step of the way. They would even let u practice your skills so when you do state board so you feel great and confident. It's a school you go to learn and they are there to help and provide information you will need, the equipment it's for practice and I think it's not bad quality for what you are paying for the class. It's affordable and if you questions these comments about other people experience why don't you just go find out for your self. If I can give this place 0 stars I would, the students were great but other than this place is a sham, the test at the time were from a 8th edition book and we used a 9th edition book, Schools have test to test your knowledge and there's test that trick you. There test trick you, why you may ask? Well because if you don't have a certain average you have to pay to retake a test if you don't pass your skills you have to pay to retake it. Lol that's how it works. I struggled to pass just to fail on my skills and that's was the blood pressure part it's your word against the teachers. The one and only time I missed was during my skills. So I retook the class and still didn't pass lol I thought I was just dumb or I am in the wrong industry. That's what I thought until I took myself to another school where I am one of the top students in my course to being a pro when it comes to skills. I put it all together when I was there the second time. It took them almost 3 months to give me my check to get my finger prints after numerous times asking for it. People who say this School is good is because they ask them to post it to get good yelp reviews I was one of those they asked. I forgot to mention when I asked for help with my class work I was denied that help they said it's not the teachers job to help us with out of class work, aren't teachers suppose to teach? I wouldn't recommend this place to my worse enemy take your money else where. read more

Reasonable price, accommodating and friendly staff, the student services - Adrianna and Aubrianna, the school is very conducive to learning with all their equipments and supplies. My instructor, Mrs Coleman was very helpful and very specific when it comes to performing skills. She is strict in a good way. My clinical instructor, Mrs Crook is so kind and I had fun listening to her experiences when she used to work as a nurse. Both are very knowledgeable and are open to any questions. If you looking for School that you can get your CNA Certificate soon, this is a good School. The Course is short and also when you do your test, if you score low you have a second change to re-take your test again, to improve your score. Also if you miss a day of Class you can ask the Teacher, for you can make that time that you miss again. First you must read the entire financial contract they want you to sign prior to Student Services Administrator Kristen K baiting you to signing on the spot to save $150.00. The contract offers you "0" protections or benefits as a consumer. In addition, they have it written stating they can change their terms at anytime if so desired. They could have saved themselves a lot of time if the contract had just one line stating "We do what we want, when we want, subject to change without notice." In any event, I had my start date changed on two separate occasions through no fault of my own. The school had changed the start dates. On the firsts occasion their one and only teacher was in an accident which was unfortunate, but understandable. This did not change the fact that I had already given notice to my two employers to attend their school on the first start date. I was however fortunate and able to get my jobs back. I again gave notice to my employers to accommodate their new start date only to be notified it was moved also, this time due to low enrollment. Along with a notice stating "If you wish to continue your enrollment in your currently scheduled class (now scheduled to begin **/**/2015), please complete and return the attached Financial Agreement Addendum. No further action is required after that." We paid for this program up front and in full months in advance and now they want to change the financial agreement! Are you completely nuts! To say the least I was not pleased. We paid $1080 of which they refunded $930 stating that the "enrollment fee is not refundable." I personally believe due to the circumstances in delays through no fault of my own, an upstanding company would have refunded the full amount tendered, however it is in their contract the enrollment fee is not refundable. As is we still lost money having to purchase fingerprint clearance, books and so forth. Funny thing is, as upset as I am at Medstar, this review would not have been written had they refunded the enrollment fee. I simply would have been a very dissatisfied customer and remained silent on the issue. Students and future students, Beware! Do some research on line and you will see others who experienced worse then I, some were stiffed completely of refunds by this outstanding company. You have been warned. read more

Poor instruction and training. For lecture, instructor sat at her desk reading chapters to you. lecture was rushed through and most contents were skipped. Never wrote anything on the board or gave your slides to summarize anything. Most people failed all six lecture exams. Only few did well. People had to retake each lecture exam. For skills training, not enough equipment, not enough time, not enough instructors to oversee each student' practice. Final skills exam was unrealistic for you to pass. It was set up for students to fail. when you fail, the school makes more money retesting you. If you fail skills twice, you take the entire new class with them with extra money. They have a conflict of interest to fail you more than help you success. The program is poorly set up. Don't fall for their rosy advertisement of passing rate. They told you half truth saying that they have a high pass rate of state board exam for lecture part. Well, not many people will graduate from their school to begin with. Only those who graduated moved on to state board exam. Also, they never stated pass rate of skills exam, that is because it was poor. Not many people passed the skills exam at their school and not many moved on to state board exam and passed the state board skills. read more

I was a former student in MedStar Academy, I did my completion in CNA course from MedStar. If I say MedStar played an important role to make my career it wouldn't be a lie. I was scared that I might won't pass the course because when I enrolled myself in the program they told me upfront that this is highly intensive and fast paced course and beside the lectures and classes I need to give 10 to 12 hrs every day to study. But once I started the classes I was so happy, the teachers were knowledgeable, professional, experienced, cooperative, and very appreciative. They literally boost up my confidence that I can do it. The school gives you so many chances to do better in each and every exam. Before the quizzes, final exam, and skills exam, the school gave us the opportunity that the students can come in free time and if there are no classes going on we can do combine study or practice the skills at schools which really helped me to learn better and pass my exam and skills, as well I made some good friends. I still miss Ms. Cook, she is one amazing teacher she took care of us like her own kids, she made sure when we went to clinicals that we get a hand on experience on every skill. At my workplace whenever I help nurses with the patient care they say they don't know all these skills and techniques which I use to help the patient and I honestly tell them I learned from my school. Getting an NA certificates from MedStar Academy became a stepping stone in my career, now I am working in a hospital and getting a Bachelor's degree and it's all because I got great help and trust in the beginning from MedStar which helped me to be focus in my studies and significantly raise my confidence to do better in my life. read more
