My family and I took the CPR and AED class over the weekend. We are expecting a baby so we all wanted to be prepared. Scheduling was easy and Tyson is responsive to questions over Yelp as I wanted to make sure there was child and infant portion of the CPR class we would take. Check in was simple and the classroom was set up already. It was roomy and comfortable. The bathroom was tidy. There were posters all over the walls which went over some common misconceptions people have about rendering aid, like you can't be sued if acting in good faith. There is a storage space for your belongings which is great since half of the class is hands on, on the floor (as an emergency would be also). I am very pregnant (delivering in a few days) and Drea was quick to offer me accommodation so that I did not have to get on the floor. They also didn't bat an eye at my refusal to partner with a lady who had coughed and blew her nose through the entire introduction video, and accommodated her separately. It is unusual for me to do something like that but now is not the time for me to get sick and they didn't make me feel bad for it. There were some videos playing in the room before we started, which became confusing for my family because they were put out by the American Heart Association and promote hands-only CPR. It made my family think that we were not going to learn rescue breathing. I explained that I thought it was a space-filler for while we were waiting to start and that the current recommendation by the AHA is hands only so less people would be afraid to help. Tyson later explained this issue during the class as well. The class does indeed cover rescue breathing. He also explained how and why some things we learned in past CPR classes are not recommended any longer. The actual training videos were well made and did not seem outdated. The dummies were very cool because they were electronic and had lights to show you if you were doing well enough. Their chest rises so you can see and feel what a strong enough breath is like. I struggled to do 2 minutes of CPR. It was reassuring to work on a dummy with feedback. It was also great to work with a practice AED. I'd never touched one before and they seem scary but after learning how they don't just go off unless someone pushes a button, I felt better. It was good to be able to work with the infant dummies also and to practice hitting them on the back for choking, and chest compressions to see how much pressure to use. I realized I needed to tell my mom to be sure to hit my child harder if mine started choking! My dad realized he better get an AED for the cabin because my mom won't be able to do much chest compression if he were to need it. All in all a well-run class and business. read more

I took CPR and First Aid training with Tyson in preparation to become a yoga instructor. I have taken these classes in the past, and this was the best yet. It was fun and engaging. I learned a lot. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. I just attended my second class here yesterday, and I continue to be blown away with the level of knowledge the instructor has. He is amazing and not only makes a serious topic fun to learn, but the environment is laid back and comfortable. Though don't be disappointed. read more

I would 100% recommend this facility to everybody. My fiancé and I have taken two classes with Tyson and will continue to come to this location whenever we need to re-certify. He's a great instructor-informative, personable, and obviously knows his stuff. Thank you Start CPR 1st! read more

Such a painless process. The class was easy to sign up for. There were plenty of class times. The cost was very reasonable. I paid $50 for the BLS class and found a class for the very next day. You don't need to purchase or bring anything extra. A very thorough study guide was provided which was very appreciated. The instructor made things easy to follow and the class was overall very organized. Highly recommend! I will def be coming back to this location to renew my certification. read more

Whether you're going for the first time, or recertifying, I can't recommend a better place. I was at the facility at 32nd St and Thunderbird, and found the facility open, airy and roomy enough for all the students. There was enough equipment for everyone, the "dummies" light up so you know if you're doing it right or wrong without having to wait for the instructor to get to your station, and speaking of instructors - Tyson was terrific!! You get your test results immediately and your card is emailed for printout within 15 minutes of passing the test. I've been recertifying for the past 20yrs and this was the best experience I've had!! SB-FNP read more

I was the only one to show up for my class. We talked for a little bit and I told them my history. Been taking CPR classes since 1999. Due to being the only one there they let me take a challenge, and then we had the course. Then took the test, got me my certificate. Gizmo the chihuahua was an excellent supervisor. Give him pets and belly rubs and he will love you. They were very professional and friendly (very friendly). They had great equipment too. Normally they have to listen for the pop of the dummies chests. The dummies here had indicator lights to tell if you going deep and fast enough to keep the blood circulating. Very helpful, since I think many don't realize how much work it takes to do that. This is best BLS class I have taken. It is also American Heart Association accredited which many medical places want. read more

I took the CPR, AED and first aid class and it was the easiest process. I was able to book a class for 40 dollars the following day and it only took about 2 hours. I found Start CPR 1st through the American Heart Association. I was searching for BLS Courses. This is by far the best BLS class I have ever taken. Before I even signed up for the class I had couple questions and I emailed Tyson the instructor. He responded so quickly and answered all my questions. Go through startcpr1st.com website it's much more user friendly. I was able to sign up for the class I wanted which I needed a Saturday. Also there is different class dates. They offer other courses (CPR & AED, ASHI, ASHI Bloodborne pathogens, Basic First Aid, AHA BLS Provider Healthcare, AHA BLS Provider Healthcare renewal. Look at their website and you will see all the courses that are available as well the options in classroom & online available.) I went in for the classroom BLS course. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by Aundrea she was very friendly & professional she checked me in and confirmed my information was correct it took less than 1 minute. Tyson the instructor was friendly, gave high quality information. In class we had adult mannequin and infant mannequin that really helped put into practice the information provided to us. Btw the mannequins themselves were very cool. This is not a boring class Tyson really made the time go by fast. And if your a slow reader like me and you automatically get nervous when your told it's testing time seriously don't worry. I was able to claim my card the same day. Don't hesitate to take your courses with Start CPR 1st. Really clean facility and as I stated before Tyson the instructor and Aundrea are the best! The price for the course was perfect. I recommend Start CPR 1st to anyone who is in the medical field or non medical field looking to take any of these courses. read more

Found Start CPR 1st when trying to find a place to get my BLS certification that had flexible class times. I was glad I found them! The class was straightforward, with great feedback on technique. I've been CPR/Lifeguard certified in the past and was a bit worried that I would be completely lost, but Tyson made everything clear and answered all questions. I have never seen CPR mannequins that have feedback devices, honestly that made the biggest difference for me! Instant feedback telling me to slow down and understand how fast to actually compressions. Definitely take your BLS class through them! read more

This was a terrific class, also a very informative and professional setting. The teacher and front desk staff were so friendly. We'll definitely recommend this company for CPR read more

I come here every 2 years to renew because Tyson's CPR class is really enjoyable. Tyson has a super laid back personality so his classes are fun but super informative. The test is easy and he gives you all the information you need. There is a parking lot so parking is a breeze, and you can pay online in advance which is awesome. He teaches us about adults/child/infant CPR and how to help chocking victims. I will continue to come back here for my BLS Renewal! read more

I never enjoy taking CPR classes. I've taken a few over the past 15 years for school and work. This experience was completely different. Tyson was a great instructor. He explained everything clearly and emphasized the most important things to remember. He would explain the 'why' behind why it's important to do things a certain way or a certain order. We had plenty of practice on dummies. And those were great too to get the feel of how hard and fast I need to push along with how hard to breathe into a person. I can't say enough about how enjoyable class was. Anytime I take CPR in the future it will be here. So if you want to go somewhere where you feel welcome, feel comfortable asking questions, and have a good time you should try them out. read more

I needed to get re-certified in CPR/AED in order to take the Certified Personal Trainer exam and stumbled upon Start CPR 1st. Not only was this course a lot less expensive than a lot of the others I found, it was fast-paced and very informative. The class started on time, not a second later, and was a lot more brief than some of the CPR classes I've taken in the past. Not sure if I would recommend this for first timers but definitely a great option for those who have been certified before and just need a re-certification. Easy to find, spacious learning environment, and the certification card is printed and emailed same day! Happy to support local entrepreneurs and will definitely recommend to anyone in need of their services. read more

Having been an EMT, and previously certified in First Aid/CPR/AED for both layperson and Healthcare Provider.... I found that this course was taught well. There was the right amount of hands on for CPR. With all the changes over the years on giving CPR, the program has been streamlined to the point that EVERYONE can learn it in 1 *MINUTE*....
