This review is solely for an event I attended here: My friend and his choir had a concert here last night, so we attended to support him! I didn't realize how often we drove past this place! The choir concert was inside of the Bulpitt Auditorium. Beautiful space, but definitely has seen better times. I recently finished the Audio Production Technologies degree at Phoenix College. The program is great and gives you what you need to be an audio engineer. The studio on campus is excellent and really fun to work in. You start out on the Trident console before moving into ProTools. You gain experience using compressors, EQs, microphones, and pre-amps. You'll also get experience mixing and editing in DAWs, live sound techniques, electronic music and sound design. The staff are incredible with real world experience. I love this little library so much! Since moving here over 25+ years ago, I've taken classes here in Art, Creative Writing & now Massage Therapy. I already have a Bachelors degree that I earned in Georgia from a four year university. But if I graduated from high school here (in AZ), I absolutely would have gone to one or more of the community colleges here. They provide outstanding education & offer the most incredible variety of programs. Back to Fannin Library, I appreciate using their computer lab to complete my class work b/c it saves me from the distractions of home. I can also print things cheaply here & save my own printer ink. It's been a few years since I've been here, but they have nice relatively new Mac desktops. That was surprising b/c last time I was here they only had Dell PCs. Then I can always guarantee to find popular books that are usually checked out at the regular public library. DVD movie selection is unbelievable - current titles, docs, classics & foreign films galore! They also have a vast collection of children's' books. There is something for everyone. The Paramedic program at Phoenix College is horrific! The instructors hate their job which effects the way they teach. One female student is constantly bullied in class by another female student in class. The bully shouts from across the room insulting the other that includes sexual harassment. Administration has been notified of the intensity of what is going on multiple times, yet nothing is done. Tests given are on chapters that haven't even been given yet. These instructors are just there to get a paycheck and could careless about actually teaching. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the paramedic program at Phoenix College! P.S I am not the student that is being bullied, but me and others are absolutely sick of watching it happen and not a damn thing being done about it! read more

To whom it may concern, I attended Phoenix Community College on 15th Ave and Thomas Rd. I am a highly decorated retired disabled Army Veteran. I was discriminated against by instructors Peter Gutierrez is one Michael Macdonald is the other. Both times I took the proper measures to address the issues. There was enough evidence to prove my case. However when the institution is investigating themselves the outcome is always going to be in their favor. Dean Wilbert Nelson just so happens to be a man of the "African/Black" ethnicity group, but still my legitimate complaints fell upon deaf ears. If you look like me, and are an intelligent conscious Aboriginal Indigenous Nubian African European Descendant American Man, this institution is not for you. Even though, I provided medical documentation regarding my absences as well as the lack of abilities to give my 100%, Peter Gutierrez still failed me. He also stated that, "You know that you cannot utilize your disabilities as an excuse in law school!" Insinuating that I was utilizing my military service connected disabilities as an excuse to not be in class or turn in my assignments on time. I missed class due to service connected migraines. In addition, I was also, hospitalized during the semester due to kidney problems. Which prohibited me from completing the semester. Peter Gutierrez was fixated on my grade point average and obviously punished me for my observations, opinions and critical analysis on the videos and writing assignments. We disagreed on his perspective and presentation on these racist videos. The videos were from the television show, "What Would You Do!?" As well as, some real footage from police camera videos. One video in particular was when a White European American highway patrol officer pulled over a White European American man, and how he handled the irate driver. We had to write how we would have handled the situation. Peter Gutierrez made it known that when he experienced this with a woman who gave him "Attitude" when she drove off spinning her tires as the White European American man did, he called an officer and had her pulled over and ticketed again. The incident with Michael Macdonald, at first their resolution was to have me retake the class the following semester, but I ask, "Why should I be punished for his disrespectful decisions and racist comments. So, therefore, they reassigned me to another professor to complete that semester. In both of these examples and cases the institution investigated themselves and found these instructors Peter Gutierrez and Michael Macdonald to be not in violation of the schools discrimination policies. The admission office forgave me for the entire semester because I provided medical documentation regarding my absences, which clearly proved, I was not at my full potential. Especially when the previous semester I had three classes and received A's in all three of those classes. Every instructor with with the exception of Peter Gutierrez, forgave my entire semester as if it never happened. The other instructors that semester were very understandable of my situation. I strongly believe that with these two professors Peter Gutierrez and Michael Macdonald, as well as, some other ones intentionally push the Aboriginal Indigenous Nubian African European Descendant men, aka "Black" men out of the classrooms. Help has been available when I have needed it in understanding and working tech to be able to attend hybrid classes - a very different education delivery approach from when I was young. What sets her apart from the other prof's is she is patient and does whatever in her power to make you successful. The Dental Assisting program at Phoenix College is the best in The United States! After being a PC Dental Assisting graduate, I experienced first hand that the instructors really care about your success and education. They will push you to be the best you can be and much more. The education is beyond amazing. There is so much hands on experience and the evaluations really prove how much knowledge and growth you have gained. This program is definitely an intense one and I understand not many can handle. My instructors were never unkind and always had my best interest in mind. This program is not for the weak! As in pushes you past what you thought your capabilities were. You make great friends here and they give you so many opportunities for a successful career and much more. The education goes from old school knowledge to present knowledge and even future knowledge when it comes to all techniques, technology, and information. 10/10 program. well its my school, so I thought what would be better than writing a review for you own school... what could I say about Phoenix College?? The school is pretty small, smaller than the rest of the Maricopa colleges if I'm not mistaken. But there is a reason why I drive across the city to come to this institution, I love the staff and the instructors who are here at PC, they are very well knowledgable at what they are doing. I have been attending here for couple of years now and I just like it here, community colleges offer smaller class and get better interaction with the instructor which is the way I learn best, and they are more than happy to help you with anything you need. Plus is cheaper to get your core classes at a community college. The parking is a little crazy from 9-12, and 4-7, one time I drove around for 40 minutes until I finally found a parking space. One thing I don't like about this school is the citation they give out, They give you a citation if you park reverse/facing the wrong way without any warning or anything at all. Well I guess I learn the hard way. I love the fact that Phoenix College have a parking garage, to those of us who knows the heat well in the valley know that that's a life saver right there... keep your car nice and cool without having to worry about passing out trying to start your car, but you go there during the crazy hours you won't have a chance of finding a parking spot. Overall I am happy with the school and will recommend anyone who are in the area looking to farther their education or anyone who just graduate from high school.. read more

I'm not a fan of this school, and here's why... I've gotten all A's and 2 B's in the paralegal studies program. I received an invite to join the Honors program. I recently had an issue with a professor named Mindy Weiss that I spoke to the director of the program about. There is no consistency with concepts being taught throughout the program. She I'd one of a few lawyer professors that does not explain assignments until after they are due. She forgets that everyone in her class is not a lawyer and teaches in the most rudest style. I've gone to several employees at this school to fix this problem, and they use COVID as an excuse to email you 3 weeks later. Ridiculous! Don't waste your money getting the paralegal degree. The certificate is not needed in a big majority of this country. What a waste of money and time! read more

My son took a few of his general education classes at Phoenix College and they seamlessly transferred to his college in New York. The classes he took at Phoenix College were Graphic Design, Economics, Biology, and the History of Mexico. Lets take a moment to talk about the non professors and teachers...Seriously the worst customer service I've ever received. No one is on the same page. Financial aid, advisors, office staff are ALL unhelpful, and rude. I've honestly never had such an awful experience trying to give people money to further my education. Calling to get an issue figured out? Forget about it. You will be on wait for 30 min up to 3 hours, get disconnected multiple times then be told to contact a different office or just never get through to the person your actually trying to reach. I had people tell me that they would resolve my problems and never follow through. Even supervisors were unhelpful! Do yourself a favor and find a different school that has there stuff together. Professors and teachers.... Here it gets better. I've been taking classes here for sometime now. I actually already have an associates in Liberal Arts from here and I'm in the process of getting another in sign language. After this semester I will be applying for their interpreting preparation program which is ranked in the top three programs in the state for the last time I checked. Joanne has been my advisor for two years now is the absolute best. She has been there for me every step of the way and advised me in the right direction in every which way! The campus is usually always clean and the grounds are kept up daily. I still prefer Scottsdale community Colleges campus over PC but its not bad. I like that if your in a specific program majority of our classes are held in the same building so you don't have to be running from one side of campus to another. This campus is also in the process of remodeling and adding new buildings as well s parking structures. I'm looking forward to the new look! The staff here has been great I have yet to take a class and not like the professor. I highly recommend, Jeff Stone, Tamara Henner, David Bailey and Michelle Monhan for any American Sign Language or Interpreting classes. For English I highly recommend Cristie Roe. All these professors go above and beyond to help their students and really take the time to make sure everyone understands the material that they are teaching. read more

I recently took a phlebotomy class with the Phoenix College and it was really great. It was a hybrid program specific to a non-phlebotomy job (not the full clinical course.) The facility had limited parking but the building was pretty nice. They seemed to have a good supply of materials and the labs were clean and updated. The staff here was awesome! I really had a good time time and they were all extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and understanding. They had a lot of real world experience to help guide us through the process, teach us the necessary material, and prep us for our clinical externship to become qualified. read more

They seem to focus a lot more on the career based programs that they do on actual academics. It kind of feels like high school 2.0 with a few of the instructors seeming to play favorites. Other instructors just won't listen at all, and I even had one scream at me in all caps a message when I asked him a question. Communication really lacks especially with advising, and I've been waiting since Friday to hear back from an advisor about trying to change my major. Maybe I'll just go ahead and transfer to ASU now instead of waiting a year like I was planning to. read more

PC as we affectionately called Phoenix College in the mid-60's provided a great education and caring faculty. It was "THE" place to go if you could not afford one of our 4 state colleges or universities. It truly was the stepping stone for all of us that went to PC. Many athletes from local high schools got a second chance and those involved in football, basketball, and baseball went on to 4 year schools with a scholarship and into the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Many became scholars and had outstanding careers in science and technology and business. This school is absolutely terrible! Trying to get in touch with anyone in the appropriate department is useless especially in financial aid! If you call the college directly they tell you financial aid doesn't have a direct line and there is absolutely no way to talk to them unless you use the online chat option. That's utterly ridiculous! And if you try to chat with someone online they're not actually "online", it says they're offline and you can leave a message and someone will reach out but they don't!!!! How can you operate a school that doesn't allow the students to remedy a problem?! This is my first and LAST semester with this school. read more

I was on a local buy sell group on Facebook and came across a post that was offering a $35 dollar teeth cleaning. I messaged the poster via social media with contact information, and I made an appointment, just so they could do a quick examination and go over a few basics, but no work was done at the moment. I visited my alma mater (Class of 87) last Friday and was impressed by the hospitality and continued upkeep of the campus since I was there in 1987 for graduation. So much has remained and so much has changed- suddenly there's a sign about [adorable] feral cats on the property (I managed to photograph a cat sighting running across the grounds). Just "don't feed" them, right? And, TVs (with closed-captioning on). And, a mural. And, a terrarium. And, a large memorabilia display window (they had a prom??). And, an ATM. And, a Starbucks right on campus. And, a new parking garage. I walked the entire campus and even ate lunch inside the remodeled Hannelly Center dining hall or cafeteria (now nicknamed Bear Cave' Café).and munched on 2 yummy slices of veggie pizza made from scratch (approx 15-min wait and worth it). It didn't taste like dorm food ;) The guy who made that pie of pizza was polite and even carried a wheelchair user's lunch towards the table. The Student Union (Bear's Den) has been revamped to fit within today's means i.e. WiFi lounge. There are many little newer offices/signage in many buildings to better accompany students- even the Honors has its own share of the building with the Bookstore. Yes, I was an Honors student ;) Overall, it just felt nostalgic hanging around the quaint campus that transported me back in time where I felt like a teen again! I loved observing the old buildings again still standing, as well as some of the newer ones. I attended NAU first, then transferred my credits to PC, to ASU, and then back to PC to receive a degree in special education. Remember, this is a college located in Arizona, so the level of education falls within, umm, Arizona standards. Again, as with any college, only you can truly educate yourselves- no matter where you attended for higher learning or formal education. Do not let the faculty or staff let you down or scare you off- stay put and get your degree towards a decent future. Every school always has some lout working there- just report that. I made it and have survived for 30 years :) Phoenix College (PC ) is an accredited junior or community college that was established in 1920 and has a sustainable history of comprehensive academic programs where you can earn a 2-year Associate's degree both on-campus & online, as well as certificate and social programs. If you are smart and scored a 3.5 GPA, join the Honors, take classes from there, and earn tuition rebates and scholarships. Maybe they'll invite you to join, like they did to me then. I never had a problem with Phoenix College before. Ive took a few business classes and have enjoyed them fully. The Veterans area was really quick and helped me get things in order. My 1 star is for the advisor (Lindsay Richards) that "helped" me. To start off she was very unpleasant and really didnt seem like she knew what she was doing by just aimlessly clicking on the screen that kept leading her back to the same place she was already at. I would ask her a question and all she would say was "wellllll" "uuummmmm", "probley not". If you dont know something it would be wise to ask someone so you can give the correct info. I wanted to see how my degree would match up to a program which she never did, only told me I didnt have some of the classes to get in. I had to ask which ones they were and then she couldnt even read my transcripts correctly to see what I needed and what i didnt. She didnt want to print anything out for me, just told me to go print it at home because they dont print info on programs, not even one page. I wanted to know the cost of the program and she told me to go home and look it up on their website. After telling her i couldnt find it on the website otherwise i wouldnt have spent my time waiting for nothing, she proceeds to tell me to look again not even showing me where to look. Then she asks me "is that it" "Are you done". No Mrs. Richards Im not done, I didnt know anymore than what I already knew coming in. If I could scour the Phoenix College website aimlessly until I find what I'm looking for it would be months. With your help and " advisement" its even longer because you wasted an hour and 50 min of my time only to spend around 10 minutes with me to collect a paycheck you dont deserve. Really disappointed in Phoenix colleges advisement. If this is a representation of how you advise students we're in trouble. Also, dont try to call for info you will be just as disappointed as walking in for info. You will be ran in a circle forcing you to have to speak to someone face to face. I thought about moving my home school here, but ill definitely pass on that even though the Veterans Center is great, it doesnt make up for the rest of the stuff you have to go through. read more

I am so incredibly disappointed in the assistance I have received from Phoenix College. I am a first-time college student who also works full time. I enrolled in 3 classes to start easily. I have had an issue with one of my online classes for a MONTH now. Advisors have been unhelpful to say the least. They do nothing but tell me to contact the instructor, which I have tried to do several times to no avail. So I ask and advisor again, and they tell me to contact the instructor's department head. Sure, that would be great, except the class begun YESTERDAY and I STILL have no gotten any answers or help regarding the issue. I would not recommend this college based on the experience I've had. I've spoken to many people who are currently enrolled in other schools, and they have been blown away by the general unavailability and apparent ambivalence of the advisors to help me with my issues. read more

My fiancee and I have gone to Phoenix College for our first semester of 'furthered education'. We would have chosen Scottsdale for the quieter seeming, nice campus, but location is the most important. I will start by reviewing the campus overall, and then branch off into the Music portion since that is where we are. The campus looks great. Lots of planning went in to incorporate some elements of real nature into the grounds. There is a completely new renovated portion of the campus including the Hannelly Center (main office type building), cafeteria, and hangout-type building with computer resources. I have not explored these places thoroughly, so there may be something I am unsure of. Very modern architecture, and the system for getting the assistance you need is intelligent. There is a screen in each main building that has the virtual list of people in order of the virtual line. They have the estimated wait time, and they even text when it's nearing your turn. Financial Aid Assistance was interesting because we knew more about what we were doing than the person working there. They didn't know what SNAP benefits were and they work for Financial Aid? Hmm. The library is a nice quiet place to study, get your work done, use public computers (or your own at your own table). The art building is new just like the main office, and it looks very nice in there from the outside. The rest of the class buildings are pretty old, but not run-down. They are suitable for their needs. The one problem that my fiancee and I have is the Music Building. Half of it is really nice with high ceilings and sound diffusion walls. The other classes are tiny, with only brick walls, not a very good environment for playing guitar. I don't know why they can't have more of the nice rooms for the instrument classes, or plan better to get the time slots in there. The pianos are really nice upright-keyboards. The nicest I have used in my piano playing so far. They also have practice rooms with real Petrof acoustic pianos. There are a few lockers, we weren't assigned one though. The lounge in the music building is nice, it has a hang-out vibe to it, with comfortable seating when it is available. The class sizes are small-reasonable. The instructors know what they are doing. Pedro Perez is a great guitar teacher. Ellen Brown is a great piano teacher. Chris Herrera is new to the school and has a nice atmosphere to his Aural Perception class. The only qualms I have with the actual classes is the system in community college for Piano. The levels are all mixed, so you get like 5-10 minutes of instruction, and the rest is just class practice time. Really? I learn a lot in Guitar, but not as much in Piano for that reason. I also do not recommend taking "one-class-per-week" classes. We take Intro to Music Theory in this setting, and it is has been gnawing at our sanity since it started. It is basically learning two chapters per 2 hour class. Also, the class is cut short because everyone wants to leave 30 minutes early. The class is supposed to be 2.5 hours. If it was split up it would be the normal length, and not as grueling. The morning and night atmosphere at the school is pretty consistent. In the Music Building it gets more jazzy at night, which is kind of fun to hear when you walk in. The other thing is that with Music Majors you really have to meet up with the director, who is a little condescending sometimes, but he means well (hopefully). You have to meet all these strict requirements of classes and really fine-tailor it to work the way they want. It is a lot at once, but it makes sense the way it is set up. We take our academics online which makes everything a lot easier for us. Less time at school, going back and forth, etc. We only go there for our Music classes. We went against advice to take online classes only after the first semester, and we have had no problems because we are familiar with computers and online environments. The Canvas program they use for the classes is really useful and modern, it was just launched recently. Useful tips: -I learned that books are never needed the first day, so it is good to wait to make sure you get the right edition! -Enroll early so that your classes are open with time slots you need! -It is never too late for FAFSA as much as they all try to tell you. We got ours halfway through. -Most of your learning is through yourself at home studying. -Missing classes is very damaging to your learning, there are usually new concepts that later concepts build on. -Some teachers are offended by tardy students, and some are not. -Seek help at the Hannelly Building, many questions can be answered. -Take a tour of the school, or just get a map and plan your path for classes. -There are two parking lots, one on the southwest corner of the campus, and one on the northeast corner. -Placement test scores can get you paid tuition if you are a new high-school graduate. read more

But during on a one on one session ... this is not the case. Am glad that I've completed my studies here, and no longer have to deal with this inconsistent self-righteous faculty. *whew* Unfortunately, a faculty like this person, ruins the rep of an ok to good city college. read more

I took an Intro to Digital Photography class and it was a total waste of time. The instructor showed up 5 minutes late for the first class then let us go after 30 minutes (it was supposed to be 4 hour classes). That may be fine for all the kiddies that need a gimme class for graduation, but I paid good money (with books it was over $300) to learn how to use my expensive camera, and I was not amused. It went down hill from there. This guy was totally unprepared for his classes and spent 4 sessions on framing a photo. Not once did he approach the subject of how to operate a digital camera. After 5 weeks, I decided to stop wasting my time and stopped going to class. I wrote the dean of the art department and asked for a refund. After no response, I wrote him again. After no response again, I wrote the president of the school and I heard from the art dept. dean within 15 minutes. He told me he would research the situation. A week later I got the response: the two week period for a refund had passed and I was basically out of luck. He said the instructor had followed the study plan (he hadn't) and that I should have brought it up in class. This class/instructor is a joke. I've taken other classes at PC and been happy with the instruction, but never again will I spend good money at a Maricopa County Community College. read more

This review is for the football stadium located on campus. They host high school football games on Friday nights. The bleachers are about the same as a high school football field built in the 1990's. The restrooms and concession stands are on par with a high school football field too. However, this is a college, LOL. You'd expect something a little more modern and better quality. The only thing I liked about this place is the parking. It was very easy to find parking and with a lot of cars, was easy to get in/out. Other than that, it was sub-par. Hm, I just looked through the negative reviews and I was surprised. I really enjoyed all my teachers so far (but one grouchy old gentleman, but it's ok). Some of them are just absolutely amazing! They are always ready and willing to help, they give their e-mails and insist on contacting them as soon as you have a question. Even after finishing semester some of them are always there for you and offer their help if needed. The stuff that helps students to solve their questions, like admissions or financial aid, are also very nice, very polite, friendly, and are willing to answer your questions. The only reason I put four stars in stead of five is their cafeteria. The most pathetic place I've ever seen, honestly! Unbelievable! I don't know where I can write complaints about this place, but I have a lot of those. There are some particular cashiers who treat you like a piece of sh*t. I apologize for using this word, but this is exactly how they treat you there. I will not exaggerate if I say I've never been treated like that by any other customer service representatives anywhere. Is it even possible? Moreover they don't know anything that they should know. Once I was buying a meal and I also got some lettuce on a side. After I was charged, I asked the cashier how much does the lettuce cost. And the answer was "I don't know". I asked how much did you charge me then? And she named the number that she put just out of a sin air. Really??? All in all I love Phoenix College! You can get good knowledge here! I have taken all my nursing prerequisite there their science program are great with lots of sources. But their psychology department is lacking. Other than that I would recommend this school for business but not anything medical. read more

Don't ever take classes at Phoenix College They fucked up on my grade last semester and now I'm stuck with that grade all cause they refuse to change it . I've been trying to resolve this issue since the end of last semester btw. Very highly suggest you don't waste your time or money there. There just out to collect the checks they don't care at all about their students . The administration including the Dean are all rude and lazy . Highly disappointed in my experience here . read more

I am really fed up with the Community College system in this state. I am convinced that the powers that be are trying to deter us from getting an education by making it difficult to establish eligibility for in-state tuition. In addition to that there seem to be roadblocks at every turn and no help whatsoever especially for those of us who work full time and don't have the time to make a trip to campus in order to bypass these roadblocks and attend class. I have a Bachelor Degree and am trying to fulfill a few prerequisites for grad school and have found it very frustrating that a college graduate has to provide proof of eligibility to take a 200-level class. And the amount of red tape both with Arizona community colleges and the university California I attended has driven me to the breaking point. Now that I have that off my chest, this is a shout out to Tanya at NAU Extension at Phoenix College who was very helpful and proactive in helping my retrieve some transcripts from my attendance there. While this has not solved my problem entirely, she took the time to listen to me and for the first time since I became mired in what should be a simply solved problem, offered me advice on how to possibly cut through that red tape. Of all my dealings with the education system in this state, this experience was the easiest and most productive. I was very impressed by her and by the modern layout of the campus and facilities. If the powers that be in higher education in this state would get their shit together and make it easier for us to actually enroll and attended classes I would love to take a course at this campus. Overall the school is a fine school. They are working to make the student experience a better one. However, there are some MAJOR improvements needed in the cafeteria. So this review goes to the cafeteria. Their procedures are backwards and demoralizing. I have seen twice now to staff members being shut down for going the extra mile. The first time I asked to have some olives on my sandwich, which it was made clear that THOSE were from the SALAD bar and were NOT cut. The other staff member felt sympathy when both of them realized how ridiculous it was over olives and offered to cut me up some. She was told that she can't do that because she doesn't have her cutting certificate. I understand the legality of the whole thing so the school should have her get one! Or better yet have the culinary school certify her! The next bit that I have a problem with is when I was waiting at a cashier booth to pay my food and no one was there, someone on break began to take care of me when she was then was reprimanded in front of me that she shouldn't do that. Well! Maybe the cashier should have been there! Why the heck would you reprimand someone for going the extra mile! I would mention the person's name who went the extra mile but in this backwards cafeteria I would be afraid she would get in trouble! PLEASE make it so that the customer feels welcome and not intruding on a political court. I don't want to feel like I have to be a lawyer in order to purchase some food. Besides that, everyone is friendly and helpful. It's the procedures that are problematic. Hopefully the school will be implement procedures that accommodate the customer and reflect the real world. read more
