Award Winning Culotte Steak & Hand-cut Fries

Do not skip this place! They have such great steak and fries. The ambiance is lowkey for a great date. You get a second refill for one price. It's definitely not as expensive as other places given you get seconds. It's not really kid friendly . But to be honest we made it work with our baby and squeezed in. Lastly the service is super fast. When you sit you are brought bread and soft butter. Then they bring out the salad a of course best for last, steak and fries. Drinks were good too!

This is a prix-fixe menu where the only choice you'd have are the drink options and if you want dessert. For $35, you get a bread basket, a salad, and then two rounds of streak & fries with their special sauce. You are getting what you paid for, so don't expect this to be amazing. I also ordered a Pineapple Mule ($16), which was pretty decent. We also split a Hot Fudge Sundae ($12) for dessert, which definitely satisfied our sweet tooth.

My friend and I asked to split the bill 50/50z When the waiter brought our two separate receipts over, the suggested tip was 18% of both our meals combined vs just 1 person. I had noticed this when I got home because I tipped $12 as opposed to $6 on a $34.95 meal. I appreciated the service and food, but this is something the waitstaff should be ensuring doesn't happen when bringing checks to the table. I don't believe it was intentional, but it is unethical and strange. For this reason, I'm dropping 1 star. I really enjoyed the steak and fries here. I asked for mine medium rare and it was exactly that! The fries were thin and crispy in the best way. The sauce is like a salty gravy but I liked how it complimented the tender meat. The salad that you start with is decent. It could've used more dressing, but it was still good. They also give complimentary bread and butter with the meal, which you can ask for refills on. The service was quick and attentive. They bring you your second round of Steak Frites without you even having to ask! I think for the price, it's a solid amount of food and worth the visit. It's not the largest space, so I would recommend booking a reservation if you're a party of 4-6.

Medium Rare...what can I say but- it's the best restaurant I've been too in years in NYC!

I would recommend this place because it's $35 for two rounds of steak and fries and a salad. The steak isn't top notch but it's worth it for a quick meal and the servers are really nice. I get the tipping culture but 20% for them to bring you the same order ehh but I'll try again

Came here with a group of five to celebrate a friend's birthday. The concept--two rounds of steak frites with bread and salad beforehand--is a familiar and appealing Parisian-style experience and sounds like a great value. Unfortunately, the steak itself was underwhelming and tasted a bit bland even with the sauce on the side, and the fries were soggy. The Malbec was enjoyable, and we shared carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert, both of which we liked. A nice celebratory touch was the sparklers they brought out with the chocolate cake for my friend's birthday. Service was attentive and friendly throughout the evening. Total came out to about $98 per person. While the atmosphere and service were solid, the food--especially the steak--didn't quite live up to expectations for the overall amount paid.

What a fun idea for a quick, easy, & delicious well balanced meal!! We went in search of a steak dinner and ended up finding this place via TikTok! It was a fun experience in which there is only one thing on the menu, bread for the table, a salad, & then steak frites with their secret sauce! They asked how you want your steak cooked and brought it out shortly often! It was cooked to perfection and seasoned wonderfully! What makes it even better is, you automatically get a second helping so you better come hungry, because without even asking that immediate brought out a second helping of steak, fries & more sauce as soon as we finished our first helping! It was a very casual place and almost gave the feeling of a dive restaurant, as the music was a little loud, which did take away from the dining experience a bit but would highly recommend for a simple steak meal with great flavor!

I live close by to Medium Rare and finally decided to check out their deal for weekend brunch. For $39.95, you get bottomless drinks (mimosas, bloody Marys, or screwdrivers) and your choice of entree. The drinks were fine, not very strong, but that's expected for boozy brunch. I can't complain too much. The meal starts off with some warm bread and I got their signature mixed green salad. The salad was fresh although I think it was too overdressed. I got the steak and eggs for my entree which was just okay. The steak was cut too thin for my liking and was a bit tough. I also wish the portion size was a bit bigger. However, the eggs and fries were actually pretty good. Service was overall friendly and quick, even for the bottomless drinks. However, the acoustics of the restaurant leave much to be desired. Even though the restaurant was only half full, it was shockingly loud which made it very difficult to hold any decent conversation. The crowd definitely skews young, so just be aware.

We had the brunch option which was a prefix menu, and my friend who has been here previously and the one in DC said the dinner was actually better, in terms of the secret sauce and the hollandaise sauce. The secret sauce we experienced was quite mushroom flavored and felt leftover instead of freshly made. The service however was great and the bathroom was interestingly aux to french lessons LOL. I liked my sandwich w the eggs and chorizo but the sauce was very mid. The drinks were kinda cheap but it got the job done. Inside was spacious and had an interesting layout seating with some outside as well.

While waiting for the bathroom... friendly reminder.

Meeting friends for dinner after 5PM? Yes. Set Menu. Simple menu, not extensive (literally only need to decide how do you want your streak cooked)...Yes Cost for set Menu $35 - comes with artistian rustic bread basket, a simple salad, steak and fries...sure! Ambiance: slightly dark room... like you feel in a steak house...Yes. Welcome to Medium Rare! We got there around 5:30 and there were only 2 other tables with customers. We ordered the steak the way we liked it and our waitress, Megan, jot down the notes on the paper table cover. Thank you Megan for the great service. We were catching up so I only ate the warmish bread with butter. Salad came by I didn't eat it yet. The steak with brown sauce and thin fries were delivered next. We were wondering if we would be able to ask for more food. Obviously, I didn't check Yelp otherwise I would have found the answer. Yes, halfway through, Megan brought another serving of steaks and fries in a large pan and served it to us. I was talking so I didn't even start on my original plate so I asked Megan to put it on top of the steak on my plate. We ordered a carrot cake to share. I was a bit apprehensive since it's very rare to get a carrot cake that was moist and delicious. This hit the spot. $50 for each person for a nice evening out with friends wasn't bad. Note: we didn't order drinks, only food. When we leave the restaurant around 7PM, it was busy. We were full... good company... nice way to end the evening, couldn't ask for anything else. We walked to the train station to walk off the food coma. Go check it out.

That sauce, can't get enough. Made a reservation for Thursday at 6, not needed. Food came out super quick, almost too quick. We barely got through our salads when the steak came out and I didn't know where to put all my plates. The food is delicious, no question there. They will come around for your second serving and drop off extra sauce. If you can't finish the second serving, don't worry, they do to go boxes.

This was an incredible meal. Reservations are needed unless you want to try to eat after 9:30pm. Atmosphere is packed cozy. Once seated, service immediately started and we placed our drink orders. Server explained the set menu and brought the first course (bread). Steak frites were amazing. However, it's all about the SAUCE. Sauce was fire, so good that i even considered purchasing it online. Once you clear your first plate, they bring you a second serving of your steak frites and a tiny gravy jar for self serve. 10/10. Steak was cooked perfectly. Fries were perfect and crispy. You will not regret it.

We quite enjoyed our experience. Service was friendly. The food was very good. The drinks were decent. We went pre-show so it was pretty dead. Easy to get a resy.

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

The front part where you first walk in is the bar area with some tables. This restaurant is on the darker side and brings you back in time. Once you walk in further that is where the main dinning room is. This is also on the darker side as you can maybe tell by my photos. The wall paper and art around the restaurant is cool and there are some monkey statues around the restaurant. I was seated in a corner table in a booth area that seemed to be for at least 2-3 people. I thought for sure they would seat me at the bar area. I had a wonderful waitress whose name I think was Taylor but I could be wrong. I ordered the Monkey bread to start off with. It's a very buttery bread with truffle and parm cheese on top. I have alot of allergies and I was searching online if I could even have truffles as I have a nut allergy. So, I asked the waitress and she said she had never heard this. But, she came back to me and told me that White truffle grows near or like over where Almonds grow from but that, they don't use white truffle so I was all good. Well, this was super nice of her to check for me. I had no idea she was going to do this. She said the restaurant has strict protocols when it comes to food allergies. I then got for my main dish the double cheese burger with onions and pickles. To drink I had the cucumber martini. WOW everything was pretty darn good!! I passed on dessert. If you get a chance or a reservation pops up in your resy to go, even if it is for lunch..I highly say go for it.

Our server was…read moreincredibly warm, upbeat, and full of energy--one of those people who genuinely elevates a meal. I only wish I could remember her name because she deserves the recognition. We started with drinks, and mine ended up being a surprise standout. I ordered the coconut margarita, slightly hesitant since I'm not usually a margarita fan--but it completely won me over. It struck a perfect balance and leaned just enough into the coconut to make it feel unique without being overpowering. My sister-in-law, who's pregnant, had a non-alcoholic Ritual margarita and loved it, noting how convincingly it mimicked the real thing. Since we were sharing, we got to try a good mix of the menu. The monkey bread came first--definitely a splurge at $34, but it's one of those fun, indulgent starters that's worth ordering at least once. While I wouldn't call it the best bread I've ever had, I also wouldn't change anything about it. The crab rangoon was another highlight. Having it made with real crab made a noticeable difference, and the dipping sauces complemented it really well. It felt like a more elevated take on something familiar. For mains, the French dip was a hit. The meat was incredibly tender, the bread had that ideal crusty exterior, and the au jus was packed with flavor--I was very glad I ordered extra. It pulled the whole dish together. We also tried the smoked whitefish Caesar, which was the only dish that didn't quite land for me. It was a well-made, fresh salad, but the smoked fish flavor was a bit overpowering and took over the balance of the dish. Even though we were too full for dessert, the restaurant surprised us with a scoop of strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce to celebrate my sister-in-law's babymoon. It ended up being one of the most memorable bites of the meal--we're still talking about how good that ice cream was. We arrived right at 11:45, and by the time we left, the place was absolutely buzzing. It's clearly a popular spot, and for good reason. Between the lively atmosphere, strong service, and well-executed food, I'd highly recommend making a reservation if you can.

I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.

They did however seat us at a table that was directly in the way of a lot of movement through the restaurant. Many waiters found themselves squeezing between our table and another to attend to other tables. Some were carrying very heavy looking trays. Beyond that, we had a blast. We ordered the butter service, which was super fun! The waiters make a whole show of it, seasoning the butter at the table, talking it up a bit, and then allowing us to go to town. The added shallots on top bring an extra hit of umami. The chorizo spread was a little grainy for me, but others at the table were going for seconds and thirds. I especially enjoyed the marinated leeks and the eggplant dip it was also served with. Our entrees were a little underwhelming. We ordered the lobster frites and the french onion soup burger. The burger wasn't overtly French oniony. It was just a solidly good burger. The lobster was delicious, but not anything I am continuing to think about. What I am still thinking about though, are the creme brulees! We ordered the corn creme brulee for a side. It was sweet and salty, with a great crack and chew to the top. I also loved the espresso creme brulee for dessert, which also had a nice light saltiness to it. We also got the spicy orange carrots which were totally delicious. In addition to the espresso creme brulee, we also ordered the lemon ice cream cake. It was bright and refreshing. The only downsides were the wait for the desserts. The wait was so long that our waiter insisted that they would be comped for our inconvenience. However, they were still on the bill at the end of the meal. He did remove them immediately when we pointed them out, though. And finally, coat check accidentally gave our Mother's Day bouquet of flowers to the wrong mom! We wound up with a much prettier bunch, but lost our balloon as part of the switch. Oh well!
