The best food in alpine! Good drinks and There lemon dorado is my favorite thing to order. Amazing family run restaurant!

The Mediterraneo restaurant has always been a favorite of ours. We were there last night (may 12) to celebrate our anniversary. The food was not good, even the artichoke appetizer was just OK. The waitress was very sweet but she hovered and needs to be trained not to do that. I know this is very hard times for those in the restaurant business and you are short-staffed so I'm sure we'll give you another try. But we were very disappointed and spent a lot of money for a less than mediocre meal. read more

I'm giving this restaurant five stars because they're in a nice location with plenty of parking, in Alpine right off of the freeway 8, they have a nice selection on their menu.... we ordered the calamari I thought it was excellent- It's served with a red sauce and a white sauce absolutely perfect .....(a lot of restaurants nowadays are not doing tasty calamari) this particular restaurant... it's really excellent we also ordered two different salads a spinach salad and a Caesar I thought they were really delicious and spot-on!! the service is very attentive very courteous very genuine service the prices are fair //not overpriced like "Central San Diego" I would definitely go back again actually , I can't wait to go back again, I love little places like this they have indoor outdoor seating, it's a clean organized attractive little restaurant, highly recommended if you're going to be in the Alpine area (I wish we would have tried one of the desserts but we were really full with what we had( read more

I have lived in Alpine for a couple of years and have not tried this restaurant until tonight. This is definitely a local spot and has a great reputation around town. That was obvious tonight, lots of regulars there based on the conversations I heard. First impressions: 1. It is a lot smaller inside than you would think based from the outside. 2. Nice covered patio 3. Staff was all super friendly 4. Overall seemed very clean We were seated and within minutes had water and bread brought to our table. Our waiter seemed a little flustered by the time he got to us though. We ordered our drinks and dinners at the same time. I got a soda that was filled to the brim with ice. It literally was just a couple if sips and it was gone. One of my pet peeves in a restaurant is having to ask for refills. The servers all seemed flustered but there were two bussers who could have certainly helped in this area. With their prices you expect better. For my dinner I ordered the NY strip medium with mash and we got the Mac and cheese kids meal. I was so unimpressed with my dinner. For starters the meat was well done and tough. Secondly half of this supposed NY strip was fat that was not rendered down. I had a bread plate full of the fat I spit out or cut away from the steak. And the mashed potatoes were super lumpy with huge chunks of potato throughout. If that wasn't bad enough there was no seasoning. Let me be clear, I am not someone who ever uses salt and pepper at restaurants. Here, I had to. Not good when the meal was $25.00! We also got desert. I couldn't make up my mind so I tried the dessert flight with a mini canoli, mini creme brulee, and mini cheesecake. First of all the cheesecake is disgusting! It literally tasted like there was paint in there! So gross. The canoli was slathered with cheap chocolate sauce which totally killed it for me and the inside was runny. The creme brulee was mediocre at best but the best part of this dessert flight. Overall this restaurant needs to work on the finesse and execution. The staff was friendly but could not anticipate the needs of guests by getting refills etc. Mashed potatoes at a restaurant should not be lumpy! And steak should be cooked at the requested temperature and be seasoned appropriately. Especially if you want to pretend to be more high end than the other restaurants in town. Totally disappointed and do not plan on returning. read more

I cannot tell a lie (as far as you know!), but I have been eating here for 20 years. The food is delish and the staff is always super on their game. Make a reservation for ANY night if you have more than 2 people and DON'T be in a hurry, the food will arrive hot and awesome but this is a notch above and they don't rush it they create it. You will not be disappointed in the quality but don't expect it to arrive in 10-15 minutes. They will make the dish vegan when possible and if requested so my youngest daughter loves it and her older sister loves the salmon and the surprisingly fantastic hamburgers they make ( after all it's Italian not American). It used to just be Alpiners here but now people are coming from all over San Diego and the many people who visit for other events often end up here. Mediterraneo had become old and tired. It is now revitalized after changing management. The menu is much more exciting with many new Italian options. The pastas are delicious, especially the Portofino and the mussels with seafood pasta and linguine. They also have delicious pizza with creative toppings. The wine list is decent, the cocktails are good and service is good. Happy to have a new local spot for dinner again. read more

Went there tonight and this cute place has some very delicious food. They have one side of the restaurant that has a more upscale dining area and the other bar side that has games, TVs, and a great bar menu . Whatever menu you order from the food is always amazing. We have gone in, in the past for dinner. Tonight however we visited the new extension...bar, game room after eating across the way. Service was awesome! Bartender knew exactly how to make our drinks, was friendly, and efficient. The new section was beautiful! Huge projector screen for games (or whatever is the hot ticket at the moment) clean and well priced pool table and games, and clean bathrooms, which in my opinion really makes a odd or fail for a place. The fact that I was able to have my daughter with me in the game room was amazing cause we were all entertained but still able to enjoy ourselves without worrying if she was being a pill for a babysitter. All and all, a wonderful experience and Truly appreciated all they had to offer since we don't go out very often any more. read more

I've been coming here for almost 10 years now. I have always had great service and great food. Tonight I was ignored the whole night at the end of the bar. I made a comment about my meatball sandwich taking over 45 minutes to get (still came out wrong) and SAM was offended and had to let me know that I wasn't funny. I haven't had such terrible service or been treated so rudely by an employee until tonight. The food was great but the service was completely unacceptable. I hope Sam doesn't get a chance to treat another customer as rudely as he treated me. read more

Been coming here for many years, but the one thing I always like (capellini) is constantly changing! One observation: waitresses are friendly and professional, but shouldn't be chewing gum, popping bubbles, and letting it hang out her mouth! A bit of a disappointment. I drove down from oceanside, to visit a friend, thinking I would have a nice lunch on my way back home and get some computer work done. I sat for about 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged my existence. Finally, the manager asked one of the boys to grab me a water... 5 minutes later he did. I then had to request a menu.. I could understand if it were busy but I was literally the only customer in the restaurant. when I ordered a wine, the boy asked if I wanted just one.. not a big deal just thought it was an odd, empty minded question. That took another 5 minutes or so.. 20 minutes later a gal decided to ask me if I was ready to order... I ordered a salad, she walked away. I then decided to tell her just not to worry about it. I asked for my check.. they got the hint.. came back to my table (promptly) and said that they "dropped the ball on service" and to enjoy the bread (and the free wifi.. lol) oh and they would take care of my one glass of wine. Not sure if it's just me, but I feel like there is no point in spending hard earned money on a place that obviously doesn't value their customers time or dollar. 2 stars only because of the glass of wine. Being new to Alpine we hadn't been in but people had recommended it. We came in on a Wednesday evening for my daughter's birthday. We sat outside but unfortunately got the table by the door. Lots of going in and coming out right next to us. It took about 15 minutes for them to bring us water and bread. The service was really....really.... really slow. The food was pretty good in my opinion. They brought out a very nice slice of cheesecake for the birthday girl. We all shared. Took another 15 minutes to wait for the food to be boxed up and another 15 minutes to wait for the check. Probably won't be back any time soon because of the slow service. We held our MONARCH CLUB thank you dinner at the Mediterraneo last night and they knocked it out of the park. It was very important to me that this be a magical night, with great food, fluid service and a welcoming environment. Vincenzo Croce set our large party up on their outdoor patio, with welcoming station, dessert table and had the dining tables set up beautifully. His wait staff, headed by Angel were wonderful. They were attentive but unobtrusive. It had to be a challenge to them to as folks arrived over a fairly extended period of time, but they made it look easy. From the moment beverages were offered through dinner service, they were spot on. We worked off a fixed menu with entree choices, all of which were so tasty and attractively plated. Everyone present really loved the food, the ambiance and the service provided. It was obvious from Manager to the young men clearing dishes that everyone was on their game. My MONARCH CLUB members helped to raise over $80,000.00 for Alzheimer's San Diego Walk4alz. I really wanted to express my thanks for all their hard work by hosting an enchanting evening. The Meditteraneo provided that evening. I look forward to returning next year for our group event and would encourage you think of using this fine dining establishment for your event, large or small. Love the atmosphere and of course, the FOOD! My first impression when I walked into the restaurant was how nicely set up it was. The service is excellent- you can tell they truly enjoy their business. I ordered gnocchi and it was delicious! My grandmother tried it and said it tasted just like how her father used to make it- it passed the authenticity test. For dessert, we got their chocolate molten cake, canoli, creme brûlée and espresso gelato. Everything was perfect. My grandfather (an avid canoli eater) gave two thumbs up to the canolis. My girlfriend and I came here when some friends were raving about how good the Italian food was here. Many people in San Diego feel that they need to go to Little Italy for authentic Italian fare, but what to do if you're out east? In my opinion, Mediterraneo far surpasses some of those restaurants in downtown and Little Italy. When you arrive we were greeted by Enzo, the restaurant's Owner. We were informed that the venue is recently under new ownership and authenticity is what they're striving for. The head chef is this sweet little old lady from Italy, where you can tell by her presence in the kitchen that she demands nothing but the best from her kitchen staff. I ordered the Lasagna and my girlfriend had the ravioli. We asked our server if anything was store bought and were extremely delighted to hear that everything is made in house since the new ownership took place. The lasagna I got was amazing, with portion sized to satisfy anyone's appetite. The meat sauce was perfectly seasoned and the lasagna noodles were on point. My girlfriends ravioli was perfectly aL dente the cheese was nicely balanced...definitely recommend these two dishes to first timers! If anyone has ever made lasagna or ravioli from scratch they know how tedious and time consuming it can be.... The dessert we got was Mama's cheesecake, probably one of THE best I've ever had. I'm a big fan of The Cheesecake Factory's cakes, but this one that Mama made, makes me reconsider my preferred cheesecake venue..... All in all you won't be disappointed with the food and service you receive at Mediterraneo. It is pretty much my standard for great itialian food in SD now. read more
