In an attempt to salvage the meal, I asked the manager if some sort of sauce was available. Sure, he said, for $1.06. Now, under no circumstances will I pay even more to doctor up a crappy meal! On my way to the trash to deposit what is possibly the worst meal that I've had in months, I spoke to the cashier. I never expect airport establishments to be top notch, only because they apply the "hostage" approach - you are in the airport, no where else to grab a bite. And personnel, if not motivated, tends to be pretty much flat on providing customer service. Had a Greek salad, and although I would have loved a yogurt dressing, it came with little cucumbers and tomatoes. A slice of pita bread would have made a nice touch, and it will not cost an arm and a leg to add. Price is definitely steep for what you get - $13. I ordered the Falafel platter for breakfast ($11) which ended up being 5 falafel cakes (flavorful) with and handful of pickles, tomatoes and iceburg lettuce pieces. It was a sad excuse for "Mediterranean" food especially in a city filled with top notch authentic Med cuisine. I probably would have opted for three stars had the customer service not been so lackluster. There was an "off" feeling at this business. This was a weird place to end up trying my first falafel. Not because it was in an airport, but because it was absolutely not what I ordered. Not even close. I was the only one there, so it's like they were busy. Too bad I was in a hurry and couldn't make a correction. I am certain, however, that I was served the most bland, dry Mediterranean food of my life. The pita bread was tough and rubbery. The falafel itself was so dry, I'd questioned if it had sat out for an hour and been reheated. My fries were just above room temperature and unsalted. Fifteen minutes later, my friend came back with a gyro and said "Whoa what the hell is this?" The meat (which had no lamb, surprisingly), was cut off in large chunks rather than shaved. Usually when I'm in an Airport and am looking for something to do between layovers and flights I get to walk around and check out the local food spots. I decided to check out the Mediterranean grill to see if there was anything good. The look of the restaurant was fresh. It had a Mediterranean feel and made me forget that I was in an airport. I got seated rather quickly and was greeted by my server. She seemed to be rather new and did not remember all of the prices for different beers. Eventually I got a 22 ounce draft fat tire for around 9$. I let her know my flight was in around an hour so I would need to be in and out. I ordered the lamb burger with sweet potato fries and it took around 15-20 minutes for it to come out. Frankly I was not too impressed, the patty was somewhat small and wasn't that flavorful although the sauce made up for it a bit. The sweet potato fries were good but you could tell that they were from a frozen bag. I ended up spending around 24$ for my meal and was on my way. This is def the WORST Mediterranean food at its finest. My fries was undercooked with no seasoning. Fine, I shouldn't expect Michelin level good quality but aiming for garbage is just unacceptable. This is a review for the to go section located next to the restaurant. So gross. I ordered a chicken gyro which was far from appetizing. The chicken was stale without any flavor. The garlic sauce was sparse making this sandwich even less edible. Sandwich and fries $9. Reasonably priced for airport food but I'd rather save my money and go hungry. Two things are certain in my life: I pass through a lot of airports, and I absolutely adore Mediterranean food (I'm definitely an armchair expert in that department). Why, oh why, do I keep expecting something more from such a poor excuse for a Mediterranean restaurant? I mean, Dearborn is so close - and with some of the finest Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food money can buy - how can this place be so far-off? Okay, prices aren't terrible (even for airport grub) and service was surprisingly pleasant and just about as efficient as it needed to be for table service on a busy weekday evening. I presume that if you need food in a jiffy, that you aren't doing sit-down dining in an airport anyway. So, for the food, there's any and all iteration of vaguely-Mediterranean food. Gyros that I'm sure aren't from a spit, pitas that aren't warmed, and hummus that will neither impress nor offend. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to order one of my favorite items, vegetarian grape leaves, as a sandwich platter. I bought a fruit cup in my desperate state and realized after that it was at least 3 days old (from the sticker on the bottom of the cup) and the fruit in it had been questionably washed at best. The Detroit airport doesn't have a whole lot of rave options for food, and as far as service goes, this place was about as disgruntled as you'd expect. The woman in front of me in line forgot her drink at the register and the girl working the register pointed at the drink and quietly mouthed, 'that's yo drink', while watching the customer walk away. Making as little effort as possible to alert the person. I ended up giving up my spot in line to run it over to the woman, then got back in line to purchase my cup of old fruit. After I made my purchase, the girl at the counter just walked away with a full line going out of the storefront waiting. I realized then that I didn't have a fork to eat my food with, so I went back to grab one, only the container with silverware was empty. I waited a minute and the girl never came back and the other person working just stared off from behind the juicer. I ended up reaching over the counter by the register to where I saw the packs of silverware to get it for myself. The employees seemed like they were doing forced community service more than anything else. I was half tempted to get a fresh juice but their juicer looked all kinds of dirty so I stuck with the old fruit cup... Which, at second glance, was only semi-dirty. I should have turned back as soon as I saw some of the stomach-turning food pics that flash on their menu board (specifically the nachos, which look like someone just dumped a partial spoonful of that congealed canned gelatin cheese on broken chips), but it was my last option before my flight took off so I panicked and just went for it. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews. I fly through dtw at least once a month. I hit the grill every time my layover allows. They have the healthiest options in the airport. My service has always been good. Today for breakfast I had the healthy omelette and coffee. Both arrived quickly and HOT. My server was nice and not overly in my space which I appreciate. I understand that, this is a restaurant in an airport; therefore, I was not expecting an exceptional meal but a decent one. The place looked promising. I was promptly seated and the waiter did try to serve well but he was NOT 100% successful in his attempt. He brought me my meal without silverware, I had to get his attention to get a refill for my drink, and he assumed I was done and brought me the check before asking if I wanted dessert or wanted anything else. Onto the meal, If only this lamb burger tasted as good as it looked I would have been set. The burger was overcooked and the char grilled marks gave a bitter note to the patty. The tzatziki sauce was bland; to be fair the bun was on point though. Once I finally got the waiter's attention I was able to order dessert. I stopped for breakfast and it was great. I had the feta and spinach omelette crescent with the Greek smashed potatoes. The omelette was light and fluffy and the seasoning on the potatoes reminded me of Greece. The coffee was good and an ample size. My waitress was very attentive. So airport food is hardly ever ah-mazing, but I'm more shocked by the service at this place above all else. Considering that people are trying to make flights, fast service is pretty critical within an airport. That said: I think this was the worst service I've received at a sit-down place. After seating ourselves (as the sign indicates) we wait for 15 min for anyone to notice us. All the waitresses have laser like focus on looking ahead and serving only their own tables. After becoming frustrated that other patrons who arrived after us received food, I wildly wave my arms to catch the attention of someone passing by. This waitress (long blonde haired) was nice enough to take our order and remind the actual waitress that we exist in her zone. I honestly think this waitress didn't want us in her zone. Anyways, the food is nothing special despite the diverse menu. I had the beef shish kebab sandwich, in which the meat was slightly burnt (would've been passable without that quality). The thick steak fries needed salting but definitely fills you up! The beef kafte (ground meat) sandwich tasted better, so this might be a good option if you choose to avoid the chicken like the other reviewers suggest. Felt like even paying our bill was going to take awhile (keep in mind that this is after lunchtime and the place wasn't packed), so we leave cash and hightail it out. I'm not sure I've ever given a single star before but here's the breakdown of my recent first experience with the DTW Detroit airport A-Concourse restaurant: - The Bloody Mary was the bright spot and I give it a 4 stars. - The chicken gyro was really bad. I give that zero stars. I'm picky about meat but think gyro meat is pretty hard to mess up. This was chunks, not shaved meat, and it was all chewy tendons and fat, no real chicken or normal texture. Plus, there was no lettuce or tomato on this gyro, simply chicken and sauce. For $9 that's pretty weak. - The side salad I ordered was only $5 and wasn't too bad but the lettuce was wilted or possibly freezer burn in places. I saved some to put on my gyro since it didn't come with lettuce (see above and photo attached). I give that 2-3 stars. - The price overall for this mediocre meal (I ate 2/3 of the salad, most of the pita dipped in tzatziki, and drank the whole bloody) was about $30 but $11 of that was the Bloody Mary. I give the cost/value 2-3 stars since it was the airport, otherwise I'd have been really disappointed. - The servers were overworked and slow, which I give 2 stars. Hm. Airport food, but then, does that mean it has to be terrible? Rick Bayless runs an airport restaurant in Chicago that's actually pretty good. This place, however, is more bar than bistro, and what's really sad is that on this particular day with my particular meal (the chicken schwarma), the flavors weren't . . . bad. They were just bland. They could have been good if the whole thing wasn't rushed or over-saturated with oil. They still had the breakfast menu up and when I tried to order breakfast he glared at me and said 'It's 10:30'. Nothing more, no explanation as to what that meant. But I should have listened to my fellow yelpers. I ordered the falafel plate and a glass of water - simple enough, eh? I received a line of falafel balls on a giant bed of slightly withered romaine, with a few squidgy cucumbers, some tomato that tasted of chemicals and some very brown and old-looking pickles. The glass of water had floaties in it. I ate the falafel balls, which weren't bad (but it's hard to make a falafel ball badly), picked through the tomatoes and cucumbers (some had questionable brown flecks on them) and then promptly lost my appetite. To top it off, the waitress charged me extra for the cucumbers!?! I can't have bread so I'd asked if I could substitute the pita bread it came with for a few cucumber slices. She said no problem - I guess I didn't realize 'no problem' meant 50c extra. All in all, it was rather grim, and a real shame because the menu looks really good. I'm surprised by this place. I got a chicken shawarma with a side of fries. The fries are the thick cut kind, not to salty. The shawarma is big.. it's a pita bread that the bases with garlic butter, added some pickles and a lot of chicken. The chicken is well marinated and soft (it's shredded). The con.. no lettuce or radish or anything, it's straight chicken and pickles. It's to much for me.. probably filling for a guy, you can half it and be straight.
