I only give this company three stars because I've been a customer for over 20 years. I have read all of the other comments and understand everyone of their grievances. I have had similar, if not the exact same ones. I have had both Internet and cable with them the entire duration of those two decades. What I have found is that living in a college town things expand so quickly that mediaCOM cannot keep up with the demand for customers. Therefore, they lose points in simply poor management of the company. The local office in my town is wonderful! Kathy, Frank, Derek and Scott. Have made any issue I have had extremely painless and they are always incredibly helpful. But, their phone support is simply pathetic. I have found contacting them through Facebook is more beneficial than trying to actually contact somebody by phone if you have issues that you cannot go down to the office and deal with. Sure they are not the most reliable Internet and TV provider in the world. But, out of 20 years I have never been willing to switch to a different provider because they are always willing to work with me. read more

I have been paying for 300mbs service since MediaCon forced me to upgrade from 100mbs a long time ago. I have been complaing to them that internet service is not stable and that speed test shows speed is in the 20 to 50 mbs range. If there is anyone that is thinking about getting services from MediaCon DON'T TRUST THEM! read more

The worst internet service ever. Constant outages and service disruptions. If you work from home, find someone else.

I have only had the service for a month. I have not had consistent internet for a week straight. I have contacted them multiple times, they have sent their "team" MULTIPLE times and nothing had been fixed! They tell me that they can see the connection and that it is low, and they keep sending people that do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix the issue. I have asked for this to get escalated AND for contact information for a manager to be sent to me or to be contacted by a manager and all I received from a "Grant B." was for me to call their direct number and schedule someone to come out ...foe the 3rd time. Is this how you deal with customer issues? You lie that you can provide a service, have people pay for installation just so you can give them the same exact "solution" every time without actually fixing the issue while you keep charging them monthly? read more

For the price we pay, mediacom is garbage. Over last two weeks internet goes out daily every 30 minutes to an hour and stays out for a 1 to 2 minutes. I work from home and this is very frustrating. Once another provider is offered I will switch but right now Mediacom is the only internet by me and they know it so they don't fix issues. They suck!!!!!!! I had to choose a star and really they get zero stars read more

I work from home and in the last 4-6 months my internet drops constantly. I have had at least 7 technicians out with absolutely no resolution. Cost just to have internet is extremely high and my bill goes up almost monthly. With as much money as this company makes maybe it's time to change out equipment. For these reasons I will be getting a different provider! I will not recommend this service to anyon. read more

I have had to request multiple technicians to come out to fix problems with their services. They finally fix the problem after 4 months of calling them out. Eventually I get my internet bill and the price doesn't seem correct, so I decided to head up to their office to ask about it. I was met with one of the rudest people I have ever met who only gave us attitude and wanted to egg on an argument. Mediacom, do better read more

Shittiacom has ridiculously bad service. The internet regularly goes down and it always seems to be at the worst times. The techs they hire are also incompetent as I had one at my apartment for 4 hours for something that took me 5 minutes, no exaggeration. I am not particularly tech savvy either. If I had any other choice for internet service, then I would not have Mediacom. The internet is also super slow even though I pay for the 1gig plan. It's not a big apartment either. It's bad enough that I have to leave my apartment and use the campus wifi in order to have more reliable service. That's right, the on-campus wifi that is notoriously awful outranks this crap company. If you have any other option for internet service, use them. Avoid Mediacom by any means necessary. Time to figure out if there is any way to kick this monopoly out of its reign of terror & get some more competition. read more

Finally after 3 days of my WiFi acting up and speaking with two different techs, I learnd that my combo modem/wifi router was old and needed to be replaced. So I drove to the local office to exchange it telling the woman the story that our WiFi was in and out. She cheerfully exchanged it for what I (and any reasonable person) assumed was the same type of device. Problem is, it was only a MODEM, with NO WiFi!!!! Are you kidding me??? read more

This Wi-Fi is the shittiest service you could ever go with. I literally want to blow my fucking brains out any time I have to deal with this company I pay way too much for Wi-Fi never to work! Piece of shit company. read more

Had great speeds when we lived 3 minutes down the road but now we can't get their service. The street next to us has Mediacom so we want to pay Mediacom to dig a line. Yes you read correct...we are going to pay them to dig a line AND for monthly service. We have been trying to have them out to get a quote to dig the line since mid NOVEMBER. We have spoken to a ton of people, managers, sales associates, engineer department, you name it. EVERY single time someone says they will call us back and no one ever does. Amy at the Columbia office might be the worst one we have had to deal with out of everyone. I literally can't understand how a company refuses your money? **This post will be removed as soon as someone comes out to give us a quote. -Chris and Stephanie Chauvin read more

They will not remove a charge for tech support which I never ordered. I called 4 times and everytime they tell me to rest assured that the credit will apply within 24 hours but no credit. Lies and lies. I hate calling them, it takes too long to get a human and all they say is 'we are sorry about that!' read more

There is not enough time or space to write my review. I will just warn you that this is the WORST service of anything I have ever had in the past. They ran a cord through our yard to connect us (I have since observed this at other homes in our neighborhood...cords running through yards and street...so not cool); very first day we had no connection; took a good part of Saturday and still no connection; rescheduled a service call and still got no connection; asked for a refund and returned all equipment...they don't refund your card but say they will "mail" a check in 4-8 weeks...BS To sum it up: never had there service because they could never get us connected...high speed?..a bunch of crap. I usually don't write reviews but this is such a worthless company, don't bother with it. TERRIBLE! read more

Mediacom is very unreliable, it lags, goes out, takes forever to load sometimes. The last serviceman that came out was rude unhooked stuff and just left it, oneof the nicer ones that came out was drunk and reeked, but he fixed the problem, the really bad thing about bundling is every thing goes out and if you don't own a cell phone you're outta luck, for what you get it is overpriced. Very unsatisfied customer read more

We had a tech out today due to buffering and total outage problems. the tech first said my modem had a bad card in it and replaced it - messed with several things and called the office and his supervisor for assistance several times. He left after telling us someone with "higher authority" would be out between 1:00 - 3:00 tomorrow. I asked him not to leave since our downstream/upstream levels were so low - he left anyway. Our service has been buffering about every 5 minutes and our service level, download, is between 0-- 100, less than 1/4 of what we pay for. Terrible service and overpriced. Due to pricing and terrible service levels MediaCom and others need to be regulated although I'm not totally supportive of most governmental regulations. I'll wait for the "higher authority" to visit tomorrow - not expecting much higher level of service than I got today. read more

Mediacom no-call-no-showed on my disconnect appointment. They then pushed back my disconnect date into the next billing cycle (without informing me) and sent me an invoice for an additional month. Although an account representative admitted I'm due a refund for the partial month, they "can't" update my dashboard with the correct balance, delete the invoice, or issue me the refund until the disconnect is complete. If I hadn't deleted my payment method upon submitting the disconnect, the post-disconnect invoice would have autopaid. I was sold 200 mb/s internet here in Columbia, MO for $60/month. Installer came out when promised. Everything seemed to be moving along. There was n line in. So he and the rep on the phone promised to get someone out there 2 days later to run a line, and another installer 3 days after that to set it up. Not ideal. But Ok. No one showed up. Never received a call or anything. I call today only to find out that my order was canceled. With 0 communication. And apparently they sold me residential. It's a commercial address. Your installer came out to visit-- he knows it's a commercial address. So, residential told me there's nothing they could do, and transferred me to commercial. Commercial tried to then sell me 1/3 the speed at triple the price, and I would have to wait 3 weeks for an install. Pardon my french, but this is un-fucking-believable. I can't remember the last time I was so frustrated with a company. Please don't make me involve my lawyer just to get the internet deal that was sold to me. I've already spent 4 hours and waited 2 weeks to get this done. None of your representatives were empathetic to this. read more

Mediacom has been the worst cable I've ever had!!! Our cable and internet is down like a week or two every couple months!! Mediacom is one of the worst providers I've ever had. We had no internet for 3 days and it took me an hour to talk to someone and they pro rated a discount of $3 off our bill. They clearly don't care about their customers or anything regarding how we feel. I wish there was any other provider besides media com and century link because they both suck and I would never recommend this service to ANYONE! Right now my speed test is reading 0.30 Mbps download 0.41 Mbps upload And for those of you who don't know that is atrocious and I'm basically getting scammed of my money for this HORRID service. Never use this company unless your screwed like me and are forced to use them. I really hope other media companies come to columbia to steal me away from this awful company. read more

Service is horrible, connections drop internet is weak its off more that on its not just me its the whole subdivision Whats bad is mediacom is the best of the worse Century link is bad also. I really dont know how they get permission to advertise the way they do FCC is really letting the people down Their ads are so full of lies that i think they actually believe them. Anyone could check the quality of service the area for our subdivision El Chaparral in Columbia Mo and see just how bad it is the servicemen dont even know how to fix the problems we have so they put a bandaid on it and say we'll turn in a different work order and thats as far as it goes yet internet service which is off or having problems more than its up working cost me a lot more than it should almost $100 and thats not with cable cant afford it period You're required to take all these channels you dont want and the ones you do want will coat extra Gone back to plain ole antenna. If you doubt anything I say just come visit the customers of the subdivision Our subdivision was a golf course agreement to allow centurylink and mediacom to be the only providers and I heard that from a reliable source but of course they would lie about it everything else read more

A year ago we signed up to be with mediacom . Our bill was approx $61 including an $11 charge for the modem. Today the bill went up $20. We contacted Mediacom and they said we are in a contract that raises our rate each year for 3 years. We did not sign up for a plan like that. We asked for the copy of our contract and they said they only do things by word of mouth and being at this rate means we had to have agreed to this plan. So they have no proof of our "agreement" but we are stuck with them if we want internet over 5mb because centrylink doesn't not service this area... this is criminal. read more

DO NOT GET MEDIACOM! This is the worst cable/internet provider I have ever experienced. They have terrible customer service, outages happen regularly, and no one can fix problems that occur. Unfortunately, they do have the fastest DSL in Columbia, but the increased speed is not worth the increased headaches. There is a reason that Columbia has one of the lowest cable penetrations in the U.S.--it's Mediacom! Here's our latest "customer experience." Our DVR stopped working. It wasn't just we couldn't watch recorded programs--no all viewing was interupted with a blue screen that kept appearing to tell us our DVR service wasn't available and providing a number to call. When we called that number, they told us it would be a week before someone could get to us and they didn't know how to make the blue screen disappear. Once a tech arrived, he spent nearly 4 hours at the house attempting to fix the problem. He replaces two units that appeared to work until they connected to our account--then the mystery blue screen reappeared. It stumped him as well, so he left to consult with his supervisor. That was two days ago and no one has called, followed up or shared anything with us. It took 15 minutes of trying to get through recorded prompts and automated messages telling me there were no outages in my area to get a person on the phone who also had no clue what the status was. Stay tuned to see if we receive any of the promised credits for lack of service, actually get our DVR back working or if we are still a Mediacom customer. We need serious competition to get this service improved! read more

For me, mediacom is exactly from that episode of southpark about isp's. They have basically got a monopoly in my area. Theyre more dubious than cox and more overpriced than hughes net. They have outsourced customer service. They cant even provide the whole gigabit which is the only thing i subscribe to. You have one job. Truly a hallmark of a sad society that we force ourselves to use awful companies like this. If you can, save yourself the annoyance. Because from day one, i have had a negative experience. Seriously, the modem (which i have to rent) had to be replaced. I bite my thumb at thee, mediacom, you egg suckers. read more

Oh Mediacom, how do I hate thee? Let me count the ways. I hate thee to the depth and breadth and height of the incompetence of thy service people who caused $500 of damage: shorting out our printer and router when came to "fix" our service I hate thee to the size of the bill that keeps growing due to bait and switch pricing I hate thee with the regularity of the outages that arrive after every storm, when we have people over to watch something, and each time we really need the internet If only the regulators choose, I shall but hate thee but a little bit less after the death of your monopoly read more

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Don't go with Mediacom!!! We are limited on services here in Columbia but they aren't worth your time or money. Customer service is awful! And when they first came to install our service, they drilled a HOLE in the FRONT of our house, without asking. They came out several days later to fix it but the service has been absolutely terrible... outages all the time for no apparent reason, bad modem and they said we would need to purchase a different one if we wanted better service. I could go on. Don't do it!!! read more

Mediacom gets no Stars for their customer service. I set up a new account with my girlfriend for internet and phone and made sure that I was a authorized person on the account. The reason for this is that she doesn't like to call for support or make changes, she's not very technical! I just called customer service and they would not give me our pin # to register our account online because they need her Last 4 SSN. She refuses to give any of her SSN to anyone, so they can only mail us the pin # in 4 business days. This is why I'm on the account too because she doesn't do well will tech companies..... Well I'm leaning her way with this Mediacom company. I also asked the customer service person (5CO) in the Philippians to transfer met to the US and he stated he didn't have that applicability. I find that hard to believe! David - Authorized person and bill payer on the account..... read more

Garbage company with no care for their patrons. They praise that their app is so useful and time saving - it's trash. Does not work. Absolutely the worst internet provider I have ever had the lack of pleasure of dealing with. Ignorant. Incompetent. Lazy. That describes the help of their employees and customer service. Inconsistent. Lacking and horrific describes the internet service we actually receive on a day to day basis, if we receive it. Read this before you order or call to complain about your service. First - call at least every week about a problem - if you don't call at least three times they told me "it isn't escalated" and you won't even have a shot at cancelling. We had MediaCom Business for our office, which is primarily cloud based. From Aug through Nov we called 5 times because our internet and/or phones went down completely. Usually for several hours, but on a couple occasions for the entire day. MediaCom would take 24 hours to come out, say they fixed it, and then it would happen again. David at MediaCom Total Care could care less about our problems - only that we had a contract and that because we broke our contract (because we cancelled and went to Socket who has much better performance ratings) - that he would have to charge us the balance of the contract $1,800 because we didn't allow them to fix it. HOW LONG should a company have to loose money because they don't have internet so that MediaCom can be given the opportunity to "fix" their problem. Stand up - leave them bad reviews and call them every time you have any problem with your internet - even if it is only 10 minutes. read more

Rest assured, I would give Mediacom a negative score if I could. Workmanship is shoddy an the customer service representatives Lie to you as well. I am CHANGING my review's score for Mediacom because they have bee extremely difficult for me to deal with and their employees/managers lie to me. I have been trying to make amends with Mediacom since June. It is now August. Long story short, I had to leave the apartment where I signed up for the service. I didn't have the opportunity to collect my things, so they charged me for not returning the modem, which I can understand. However, Although I wasn't receiving service at the apartment within the 90 days, they still want to charge me the early termination fee because I didn't tell them I wanted to cancel. At the time, I had more going on and calling Mediacom was the last thing on my mind. Let me also say that I was extremely confused because I called a multiple number of times in June and they said I wouldn't be charged for the early termination or for that month I canceled because I gave a 7-day notice. After some more phone calls, a girl told me that if I returned the equipment they would take away my early termination fee. I decided I would pay for the equipment, so I wouldn't have to worry about dealing with this company and trying to avoid the ETF. I called again, this time to pay, and the guy on the line advised me not to pay, because it was improbable that they would take off the ETF. He emphasized the notation made on my account, which stated that they MAY take off the ETF. He asked if I had documentation that I was not at the apartment within the 90 days, which I had. I made some calls and had the documents faxed to Mediacom with my account #, name, and phone to call me back. They never called me back. I called again after a few days and they said they never got anything. The lady told me that the number I faxed to was incorrect. She gave me a new fax number and I arranged a fax to be sent there as well. I never received a call back, and I even have a copy of the documents sent through snail mail. On top of me not being at the apartment within the 90 days, I was also out of state, where they do not provide service at all. I don't think this company cares about their customers and I am pretty tired of playing phone tag. I wish I never put the internet in "my name". This was my very first time paying for internet and bills, in my first apartment, and it's a complete headache. The only thing that didn't change was it's pretty easy to get a person on the phone. If that person is going to actually solve the issue within that phone call, well, that's a different story. ---- I felt the need to review Mediacom because of the amount of bad reviews here. This is this INTERNET page and a lot of the reviews talked about their cable services which shouldn't be relevant to the internet they provide. I ordered the 60-something dollar-a-month package. I have to agree that the internet went out very often during peak times. I think this is because of the amount of college students in the Columbia area trying to get online at certain times of the day. I am a gamer and I found this to be extremely annoying because I would D/C mid-match. However, it wasn't so horrible that I wasn't able to use it at all. The outages lasted for a maximum of 1 hour and a minimum time of 2 page refreshes or something. I would just do something else besides go on the computer. I had an online class that I was taking, but the internet never crashed when I was completing my work so I feel as if gaming put a lot of stress on bandwidth and caused the internet to go down. I was also gaming with my room mate, so the demand would have been doubled. What I would like to disagree with is the customer service. In my experience, the customer service has been better than customer service I've had to deal with in the past from other service providers. As long as you keep your account information stored, which any person should be able to do, they will put a person on the phone for you to talk to. read more

We've had Mediacom hooked up for about a week and a half now, and since that day have had a persistent issue where, for random stretches of time, the connection to the internet will drop out and reset every 3-5 minutes until the modem is reset (which either fixes it for a little while, or doesn't). When we first called about the issue, the person on the phone mentioned they did see some signal loss on their side, and would send a tech. The tech replaced our modem (putting us on our third in 7 days, all with the same issue) and said our signal looked good, but there was some random issue they were tracing that caused peoples' internet to drop out now and then. His time frame for this issue was every 2-5 days, not the 10-20 times a day we were experiencing. The issue persists with the new modem, but became slightly less frequent (from 9am-10:30am every day it will drop constantly, then usually settle until the evening before it does it again). So we called in again to report that the issue was still occurring. The person on the phone said they would send a maintenance person out to check the connection from the main neighborhood line to our house. They said the technician would do a follow up call to see if any changes they made helped our case. Two days later the problem was still occurring, so we called to check in and see how the maintenance person had fared. That's when we learned, no, it was a scheduled appointment at our house on a weekday afternoon and somebody needed to be home to let the tech in. Since nobody would be home at that time, our appointment was pushed back 5 days to the following Saturday. So here we are, less than two weeks in, with internet that drops 10-20+ times a day making file transfers, streaming, and gaming all a crapshoot. We've contacted support half a dozen times, are on our third modem, and there's no real confident end in sight. Their chat support is clearly located overseas based on names and grammar, which is fine, but it means if you are trying to detail a technical issue it can be a challenge. The general poor understanding of our complains was highlighted when my girlfriend tried to mention that the iPhone app did not properly display scheduled appointments despite us downloading it multiple times and trying on 2 different generations of iPhones, and was told that the app was a great way to keep track of appointments if she refreshed the appointment page. Maybe you're lucky and your connection will work and you won't ever need to contact their support, but if I could travel back 2 weeks to pick a new provider from the start I would do so in a heartbeat. It's July 15th, I'll happily update this review if and when the disruption issue is fixed and we actually get to see how the internet itself is. Update: The tech never showed up for the appointment they had scheduled for us on Saturday. read more
