I am adding two stars because the business has contacted me and assured me that this kind of thing does not happen often.

My experience with Windfree Solar Company has been awful. Consider carefully reading the contract,…read morenoting if subcontractors would do the solar panel installation, if so, will Windfree cover losses, if applicable. In addition, make sure all the permit is pulled with your municipal, along with the correct schematics for the solar panels, both were an issue here. After speaking with Adam Perri, Director of Windfree Solar, I was told, due to the workers were subcontractors, the destruction of my personal outdoor equipment and garage was not Windfree problem. All the woes, leaves me with the savings from the schematics of 77% savings, panned out to 18%. Monitoring for the solar panels based on the information I was given was a country outside the U.S., with no option to opt out of 3rd party advertisement. No thank you! Value=NONE!

This company are bailed out from a 1-star review by the fact that they subcontract the installation…read moreto a pretty decent electrical contractor. Windfree Solar as a company are pretty sub par. These guys installed my solar panel system, Pretty decent size system. Living in Chicago there are certain permit requirements so you are limited as to who you can actually go with. People have asked me for a recommendation and I cannot in good conscience give these guys a nod. Their organization is atrocious. The only competent member of staff that I have dealt with is the sales person Renner. I had a project manager by the name of Mark Anderson, who was either woefully, incompetent or just didn't give a crap. And he was either fired or quit before the end of my project, which threw it into limbo. There were errors on the submittals for the permit, They were errors with the details of my system. Come time for inspection. Even organizing the initial measurements and details was not without some drama. So here we are almost 8 months after my system has been energized, come to find out that due to another error on my paperwork, the energy credits Which I am due to be paid well take an additional six months. The only reason I found this out is that somebody decided to email me to let me know that I needed to re-sign my paperwork, but then when I asked questions as to why I received no response. And that seems to be the theme of this company. I get that they are essentially a facilitator of the installation and supposedly able to take care of the paperwork required for this kind of project, but they took a pretty decent commission for those services. I know this because the actual Supplier of the solar panels has to write to me to tell me how much the solar panels actually cost. I don't begrudge them making money on that service, I would've appreciated that they actually did the service correctly for which they were paid. Doesn't seem unreasonable. That being said, I would recommend their installers for whom I will write a separate review but these guys... I would give a hard hard pass. You can do the paperwork yourself, and save yourself about $8000 and dealing with amateurs apparently.

I decided to go with Kapital Electric as my EV charger contractor of choice through word of mouth…read moreand was not disappointed I originally called to inquire about a rebate program associated with ev charger installations in specific Chicagoland areas and they made the application process really seamless. The staff is very responsive - theyll call, email, and even text you to work out anything and communicate as needed They give you the option to virtually provide photos of your setup for the initial proposal of an installation without requiring them to send someone to inspect things, which saves time for both parties. Once received, they'll verify the feasibility of the installation and draw up an official proposal for your review. I had a couple prerequisites to handle prior but once ready, they are quick to get back to you with all of the official documents From there, theyll send the engineers/electricians down to do the installation. Vasili handled my job and did amazing work. Super friendly and knowledgeable, great conversation, finished in 2 hours. He walked me through the game plan, insisted that I prioritized what location fit my preference over what would be easier to do, and executed it independently in a timely fashion. Overall very satisfied with the service from Kapital Electric :)

Sunrun Solar - No information all summer with a brand new system installed a year and a half ago.

We unfortunately signed a contract with Sunrun, Inc. in August of 2024, to fix our roof,…read morefascia/bird infestation behind the broken fascia, and then to install solar with them. This has been my biggest regret in my last 33 years. Their customer service team is horrid. Our experience with their customer service team has been a nightmare, and is now going on over a year of back and forth with no resolutions. If I could reach every single person I love to warn them about this company, I would. First, we have been bounced around from rep to rep, countless times. In many cases, it took months to get an email or call back from this company. There were multiple times where we were not informed of workers coming out, including for our roof install, which ended up happening on a weekend we were not even home.   Before the roof install, our contact Alice forgot that we were promised a brand new roof (in our contract), and tried to talk us into just putting new roofing on top of the old, due to her error. Eventually she owned her mistake, but it took much back and forth.   After the roof project, we informed Sunrun they didn't fix our fascia as promised. Sunrun then "fixed" our fascia months later and did it incorrectly. It doesn't extend long enough like the other side that didn't need replacing, leaving a huge gap for birds to gather, that continue to live in our walls.   During the roof install, our gutters were damaged, and now hang lower than they did before meeting Sunrun, and aren't working properly when it rains or snows. Jessica our newer POC, claimed that she sent out Absolute Exteriors to check on the damage they created during the roof install, and they claimed they came out on a day we were home (Mothers Day Weekend). They never rang the bell or had access to our locked side gate, but supposedly told Jessica they didn't damage our gutters based on what they saw that weekend. She therefore closed our case. My complaints were dismissed. Lastly, contractors we've had out to quote us for new gutters have been horrified by Sunrun's work not being up to code. I can't stress enough how important it is to stay away from this company. We joke that they have caused us more stress than we felt when my husband had a stroke in 2020. Run, don't walk, from their salespeople.

You do not save money…read morebecause the bill is always high 7 months into the year due to no or barely any sun in the winter. You pay your bill, ComEd, and your monthly payment to Sunrun which goes up 11% every year. My panels didn't even work the first 2 years and the circuit box caught on fire for faulty wiring that they installed. I'm lawyering up now because they say I can't get out of my contract despite my house almost catching on fire. To top it off they installed part of the panels on the wrong side of the house and said I need to pay to reinstall them.
