My daughter and I wandered in with no expectations. The front was unassuming, but we were immediately wowed by the back patio! It was charming and spacious. A cool and hip oasis that you would never know was there. We loved the vibe and the separate seating. The burgers were delicious and service was great. It was slow when we were there so we got a tour of the upstairs. Definitely worth another visit and maybe even an overnight!

Great atmosphere and great food!! The outside dining area is a pretty neat place to hangout during a beautiful summer night.

This place is a hidden gem of West Virginia. Great vibes! Fantastic bar tender (Audra I think?) UFO Raspberry Ale was so good! $6 burger special was juicy, chargrilled and just what we needed! 10 out of 10! This is going to be our new hideout!

Spacious outdoor seating with great food! Portobello burger was juicy and paired well with local brew

Staying in Harper's Ferry to do some hiking and relaxing but really, we fell in love with Shepherdstown and this bar. Some people may call it a dive, but really it's the classic local watering hole. It's actually fairly large and has a pretty patio out back (apparently it's great in the summer), foozeball, and darts as well as sports on the front television. Restrooms are clean, and they have lots of different beers in the bottle/can and on tap as well as a full bar. Kitchen open most nights too, although we didn't try the food. Stopped in after dinner for drinks one night and loved the place so much we came back the next night to watch the World Series! That night the bar was more packed with locals that all seemed to know each other by first name, and were super friendly to us too - gave us local recommendations and everything! We recommend, and if we are in the area again we will be back!

Great music! Excellent whiskies and beers. Ambiance like a really nice barn :-)…read more We wanted a Memorial Day (2025) daytrip from greater-Baltimore. Harper's Ferry is very close! Like an hour (ish) drive. So what's happening in HP? The Barn out Washington St. had a MemorialDay weekend all-day mostly-country music event 2pm to 10:30pm! Very nice. They have a great little bar inside, and sometimes have food from one of the restaurants across the parking lot, or just walk over for takeout, or i think i read that they deliver here. By the way, parking can get a little tight for a bigger event like this one, but we were early enough, maybe 1pm, and we scored a space when someone left. I might as well add that there's several clean restrooms sort of across from the bar. We settled into a huge comfy couch near the back of the hall, behind the seating for roughly 30 at tables and picnic tables. There was also seating for roughly 20 at tables out on a deck. The first solo singer-guitarist, D.C.'s Kate Smiles, had a lovely voice and sweetly original interpretations of rock and pop and country songs that i knew, and a presence that made me say, Hey, Wow, I can relax in this mellow mood with a really nice whiskey from a list that my local bar would envy. By the way, they were out of the local whiskey, Devil's Due, so i had a warming fiery oaky slightly-sweet Elijah Craig bourbon, neat, with a water back. Mmmmm. The second musician, W.V.'s Andrew Copenhaver, moved among soulful blues and country, some classics, some modern. He could put an edge on his voice, and he could hit some deep bass notes, so it was a real pleasure when he gave us Folsom Prison Blues. When you can hit that low note, you have a right to do some Johnny Cash. By now i was into some crisp local beers. That little bar really has everything, including a versatile bartender who made every drink we knew, and we sampled his skills as the third musician, NoVA's Mark Cullinane, took the stage. He had a wide range of country songs, including a moving original that made us feel we were driving in our pickup behind his dad's. He had a great rich tone and great range. Like the second musician, he used some kind of looper to create full layers of harmony. What with all the beverages, we started to fade a little as the music moved into the set by NoVA's seriously-country Rowdy Ace Band around 8pm. They really lit up the hall and the patio and probably a good piece of nearby Harpers Ferry. We eventually moved on to our reservations for dinner across the parking lot at Snallygaster's restaurant. But that's another story. We had a terrific afternoon and evening. The Barn will definitely be one of our go-to spots in this town, and we'll be looking to hear these musicians again!

The drinks were affordable and strong, which was a definite plus. However, my main issue with The Lodge is the seating situation near the stage. If you're sitting in front, be prepared for people to stand directly in front of you during the drag show. I would've preferred if the drag queens, owner, or even security had stepped in to ask them to move. It was frustrating to have 6-foot-tall, 300-pound women completely block our view--especially after paying $18 per ticket. Also, watch out for this one wild white lady in a black shirt and floral shorts who acts invisible and blocks multiple people. If you ask her politely to move, she'll argue with you and even try to escalate things by telling you to "step outside" like she's about that life. Overall, for our first drag show, we had fun--but if you're going to enjoy the performance, be ready to be annoyed because no one there is enforcing basic courtesy or crowd control. Looking for great house music, cheap drinks, and a small town vibe that still has a piece of metropolitan life? Go to the Lodge.
