Colin came to my home to do in inspection of my 17 year old, high-quality roof. MEC was referred by Michael at Sierra Solar Cleaners, who cleaned my gutters and put screens on them. I asked him to refer me to a good roofing company and he told me "call MEC"! Colin was very thorough, took his time, and gave me a detailed verbal report on his findings. He agreed that my top quality roof was in good shape overall after 17 years of sun and rain on my ranch. My roof vents are all screened with the 1/8 inch required screens, but I will have MEC's recommended installer screen my eaves as well for additional fire hardening.. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no charge for Colin's work and I will only call MEC for my future roofing needs. read more

I bought my house a year ago and just recently started to notice slight discoloration in the ceiling above my shower that happens to be below a vent on my roof. I was sure that it was going to be a huge burden, and I have been resistant to addressing it, all the while being consumed w anxiety about it. I finally had MEC out this morning. They informed me that my roof is actually in good shape, that what I'm seeing over my shower is an older water intrusion that was fixed but not painted properly, and that the poor repair/patch work on the roof's vent above the shower (which is likely the source of the dated water intrusion and which they snapped a picture of to show me) is really the only thing that needs attention. They gave me referrals for other things that I had questions about that were outside of their wheelhouse. They were so generous w their time, answering all of my questions, offering tips on what I can do to maintain the integrity of my roof. I wish I would have had them out months ago. Only taking the time to submit this review because the company's responses to a previous review (that they solicited through a third party company) are not only laughable but FALSE. They then blocked me on Facebook after submitting a review - this business fails to take ownership of their mistakes which screams bad business practice. Truly cannot believe every step they've taken to silence my feedback and avoid taking the positive road on customer service - they never asked me what could be done to make it right, never functioned with a truly apologetic approach, just continued avoiding their ownership for charging me twice (yes, overdrafted my debit account 20k+). I DO NOT recommend working with MEC Builds. It was a nightmare from start to finish. It was difficult to get on their schedule even though for months I was asking for a date (didn't get one until months later), I randomly got an email saying the color needed to be picked that week (even though my husband was actively on a fire and the timing was not right, especially since we didn't even have a date for the build), the financing was terrible (so we ended up paying in cash), the team left a ton of trash on the property that ended up making my dog sick (and I was cleaning up nails, plastic, roof shingles etc. for days) and then they charged my card for the full project (25k) after the job had been paid IN FULL, IN CASH weeks before. I could have gotten over all of this if they actually functioned with ownership, accountability and kindness over their mistakes... instead they opted to be condescending throughout the process of begging for my money back (after being out 50k for a roof that was paid in full in cash) and then responding to my review saying they did all they could and somehow I was at fault for the double overcharge? Laughable. You guys have a major attitude problem through and through. Take ownership of your misses and you'll be way better off - DO NOT RECOMMEND. RUN. read more

Not careful or respectful of propert, lawn, landscape, plants, occupants, poor communication. Work fast but make a mess, trample plants and property with no regard for your things. Hopefully they clean up. But at this point, it doesn't matter. Only care about getting it done fast. Huge crew, overwhelming. If you get proof done I recommend you leave for a couple days. Remove all belongings from deck and around home. Cover your self. They did not cover most things. Threw stuff everywhere. What a mess. Even blocked both exits. Hazardous construction site. read more

If you need a new roof, my husband and I highly recommend MEC Builds. They just finished replacing ours, and we are thrilled with what they did and how they did it. Matthew (a co-owner) came within a couple days of our call to check out the project. He got the estimate to us the same day. (Not all of the others we called for an estimate were able to do that.) He also came back a second time without delay to answer questions we had. After choosing MEC Builds, we went to their Grass Valley office and met with Haven (also a co-owner) to pick out the materials and colors. She was wonderful. She is very knowledgeable about the options and the process. She helped us make the perfect selections and prepared us for what to expect. Although they were booked out until April to do the work, they were able to squeeze our smaller job in between some larger ones because we explained that we had some leaks during the last rains. Eight workers got up on top of the house and in two days, the old roof was gone; a check for dry rot was done and repairs made; the new roof was installed; and they did a great clean-up job. There were no sub-contractors. The final cost was less than $100 over the estimate which covered the dry rot repairs. Thank you, Matthew, Haven, Dustin & Crew. Great job read more

We recently had our roof and separate garage done with MEC and couldn't be happier. Matt treated me with respect from the very beginning meeting when he came out to give an estimate. (I cannot say the same about how I was treated by some of the other companies and that means a lot to me as a woman.) Haven was our main point of contact during the decision making process of what shingle type/color to go with. She was fast in responding and thorough in answering all our questions. We had to replace the roofs due to our insurance company and Haven made navigating the paperwork etc. that was required seamless and easy as well. The crew took just 2 days to do both roofs and install the domes for 5 sun tunnels and wow did they work hard!
