Variety of tasty smoke beef and lamb, very tasty and good portion. I only would like to see some consistency in my to go orders.

While visiting Hilliard from Texas for work, I wanted to experience how other states do barbecue,…read moreso I decided to try Smoke Licked Barbecue. First impressions were great. The restaurant was very clean, and the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. They even allowed me to sample a few items before ordering, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, I arrived just before 5 PM and they were already out of ribs, which was disappointing. I ordered the brisket, pulled pork tacos, street corn, and coleslaw. The brisket was very tender and moist, but I felt it could have used a little more seasoning. The pulled pork tacos had excellent texture and were enjoyable to eat, but the flavor was mild enough that, if I'd closed my eyes, I'm not sure I would have identified it as pulled pork. The coleslaw was also a bit lackluster for my taste and could have benefited from more seasoning. The standout side for me was the smoked street corn, which was flavorful and easily one my favorite parts of the meal. Overall, the service and cleanliness were excellent, and the food quality was solid. I just personally prefer a bolder, more seasoned barbecue flavor profile.

The cashier/cook greeted us as soon as we walked through the door. Even though it is fast food, he checked on us a couple of times! Keep in mind, as other reviews have stated, it is set up for more of a takeout, as there are only two small high tops and no bathrooms. In the warmer months, there are two picnic tables right outside the door. My husband got the smoked turkey (nicely smoked with good bark and moist), mac & cheese (good cheese pull and not runny), pudding. I had the smoked chicken quarter leg (nicely smoked, moist, and covered with their signature sauce), collard greens (not at all spicy but good flavor), and bourbon peach cobbler. Both came with a choice of bread, and we chose corn bread. Nice and moist with a touch of sweetness. I usually drink water with my meals, but they had Jones ' sodas, and I always wanted to try one. The nice young man told me how much he liked the cream soda, so I gave it a try. It tasted so different (we think because they use cane sugar as their only sweetener) than say A&W's version. I really enjoyed it. We also wanted to try another side, so we ordered corn pudding. We were so impressed with everything, we took a to-go menu to look it over. The cashier/cook told us they have frequent specials and a loyalty program. Since we don't have a close fast fook BBQ place near us, I can see us coming here at least once a month! I am sorry I forgot to get pictures.

This location is a little weird as its very small and not really lit up at all. its easy to miss…read moreit. the food was all good as normal. The brisket is definitely the winner at Dickeys compared to everything else. I also enjoyed the ribs. service was a little slow but the guy was nice and having to do everything himself. There was a recent change in ownership. The new owners are still getting their feet on the ground,…read morebut for us the service change has been excellent. I go semi-regularly with my daughter and they always treat her like a queen. Just recently, we had a meal on Halloween and one of the staff brought out a free brownie for my daughter just to celebrate the holiday. The restaurant was already providing a free meal for Halloween, so more was completely unnecessary, but also appreciated and brought a lot of joy. The new owners have had nothing but trouble with the soda machine. When they bought in, there was one of those fancy touch-screen machines where you pick from a million flavors you don't want. It broke, so they replaced it with a traditional soda machine. That one broke and it has been broken for a while. I was told on Halloween that it is finally fixed and now they are just restocking supplies for the machine, so it should be ready to go soon. The vibe of the place has moved from kind of corporate-standard "this is Texas" decor, to more of a country biker bar vibe. There are a lot of personal touches that I really enjoy including some interesting toys scattered around the place and a station where you order your food where you can play sudoku or do a word find while you wait for the server to take your order. There are some rough edges to smooth out yet. On our last visit, there was no plasticware available at the drink station, so I had to go and ask for it. The soda-machine, as mentioned, was still broken, but that is on the mend. I didn't really talk about the food. Seems like some reviewers have had trouble in that area, but I haven't. I don't exactly exercise the whole menu, but my westerner combo with brisket and jalapeno sausage is always delicious and the portion is plentiful. I like several of the sides including the baked beans, potato casserole, and green beans. There are several sauces to choose from and I like the regular well enough. Sometimes I mix it with the spicy for a bit more kick. Many BBQ restaurants can't maintain reasonable meat quality when there isn't enough volume to support it, but I think Dickey's has that mostly figured out. It isn't going to beat the best restaurants in the country, but it is going to provide a decent, consistent product that is worthy of your business and definitely holds up to other places in the area.

It's inside the AmVets building on west broad street. Don't need to be a member as long as you're coming in to eat. The prices are pretty good on the food. The prices are amazing from the bar since it's AmVets. The server was actually the wife of the owner, Tammy, so that was a nice treat. She gave us the low down on the place and all the unique sauces they have. All made in house. Great info. Great service. The wings are a nice size. Comparable to Roosters and that's sayin something because Roosters wings are bigger than any I've ever had. We got fries and onion rings to start. Both yummy. Another patio told is to get the wizard sauce. Apparently it's a wing sauce but he said it's best on the sides. It was delicious on the onion rings. The sauce list is very unique and very diverse. I went with a classic, garlic parm. It was good. I've always wanted to try Alabama White. It was very tasty. If you like the horseradish flavor. Our friend got the scorpion wings and the kit him on fire. He got sample taster of the hottest one that's not even on the menu. It was Major Pain. He said he tasted awful but wow was it hot lol. It was super thick like a tomato paste. Other friend got honey smacks. It was pretty good. Not super hot but had a tingle for sure. The mean mug was pretty tasty. My husband got the hot honey and said it wasn't really very hot. Asian sticky. That one was good. Not hot. The ranch was weird. Pretty sure it was a dill dip lol. Tastes and looks like the dill dip I make for veggies. We would definitely go back. Only reason I did 3 starts was cuz my husband didn't find a sauce he likes so we will just have to try more next time!

The menu was limited (he said the trailer was new and they were still getting things set up.) Brisket and pork sandwiches, macaroni salad, chips, and drinks. Sweetie and I (and Baby K) shared. The brisket was outstanding. Tender, flavorful, crisped a bit at the edges, no sauce necessary. The pork was decent. Tender, but with less flavor; I added a bit of sauce. Still good, just not amazing. The mac salad was unique- lots of mustard and pickle flavor, and in fact some pickles mixed in. Different, but very good. The tea was good, but not sweet enough for us. The lemonade was just okay. Service was super friendly and fast. Prices are reasonable. I'll definitely be watching for them at other events. Oh, and Baby K already loves BBQ, and chowed down on everything from here (we skipped the sauce for her.)

Give this food stand/truck a try and I'm positive you will be back. I know I will be!
