*This review is for a room in the clubhouse during off-season*…read more Decided to book a last minute getaway to catch the last of peak-fall foliage in Door County. The weekend I went also happened to be the Fall 50 marathon so places were booked up. Alpine was offering their off-season rates for their club house rooms (on the golf course, pretty remote but a close walk into town). I paid $175/night (normally $300+) for a king room overlooking the course. There is a 3 night minimum but I got the sense that if they aren't too busy, they're flexible on that. The pictures online don't do it justice, it's quaint and comfortable. On the weekends they put out fresh cookies and extra coffee. It was perfect for what I needed: some relaxation in between hikes and strolls through various Door County harbor towns. It's about a 20-30 min walk into the Main Street of Egg Harbor. While I was there, the restaurant in the club house was not open but it will be open Nov. 1 through the winter, which will be a nice option if it's super cold and you want to grab a quick dinner without going far. I had a great time!

We had a nice room overlooking the golf course. This is a separate building from the resort main hotel & cabins, and is newly & stylishly furnished. Free coffee and refrigerator and rooms. Good location & access to rest of town. Five stars for great service, specifically Davante. They offer a free black car shuttle for guests, up to 5 miles from the resort. Davante, the shuttle driver, did a superb job. He was helpful, with good tips about the area. He communicated well about timing for pick-up and drop off. The shuttle is especially nice when you want to go to dinner and enjoy a few cocktails without worrying about driving home to the hotel. They should give Davante a raise, considering the number of negative other reviews on the resort. We had an opposite experience! Extra bonus points for having fire pits and a bar downstairs in the Clubhouse. This is a shared amenity with the golf club, but enjoyable nevertheless. We were even provided a s'mores kit upon request, and spent a bit of a lovely evening by the fire pits. Make sure to ask for the Clubhouse when booking!

We were served a complementary breakfast brought to our door every day with our choice of menu items. We had a wonderful stay and would like to come back here again the next time we come to Door County.

The long time owners and proprietor chose to enjoy a very well deserved retirement this past year with a sale of the property. We unknowingly were aware that the entire property will be razed in a few months. This decision led to no updates, maintenance and failed pool accommodations. We were told some people still have reservations for the end of season so hopefully management will honor those with increased service and staff access. Great place being pushed out for more condos and removing affordable accommodations in the Door county region. We wish them success as we were told it's not in our price range. Glad they know our finances. Mike S

It is quite spacious, moreso than what some pictures indicate. It's pretty modest, some basic utensils in the kitchen, small electric stove, microwave, sleeper sofa, etc. The TV is very small and old, we ended up watching movies on our computer. Overall the room was dated but pretty clean. Water pressure could be a little better. The heat got hot pretty quick, which is nice in the middle of a Wisconsin winter. If you are in town and spending a lot of your time exploring Door County, this is a nice home base. Excellent location with a few shops and restaurants in walking distance. Check out the Big Easy for breakfast, it's immediately next to the resort. We tried to walk to the Main Street Shops Saturday afternoon but they were all closed. Much of the town is seasonal and we had trouble with places being closed down or shortened hours. The pool was was indoor and they have a heated jacuzzi. I couldn't spend much time in there because the chemicals were making me cough, but my boyfriend enjoyed this amenity. There is no fitness center. Front desk offers free coffee and you can apparently take games to borrow from them, too. We would come back and stay here, it was definitely a reasonable price. However, we probably don't recommend Door County in the dead of winter.

We were quite a large party, and it had a nice space for setting up our food up in a loft area above the lobby. Not a pleasant experience for our party. Poor customer relations skills. The business owners written response confirms my statement about treating my party rudely. The other GUESTS in the lobby were the members of my family who were appalled by your rude behavior. I did not "demand" to speak to the manager, I was told over the phone AND by the desk clerk that I would have to speak to the manager with my inquiry. The view is great from the common area and rooms and it is a good location. However, there are many cons that make me really consider not coming back especially after this recent trip. The plates were filthy, literally had old food smears on them. The photos don't show the true filth. The room and appliances are not only dated but dirty. The coffee machine was filthy and they only gave one pack of coffee when we stayed multiple days. Coffee filters were not easy to find. I would not be surprised if things are not sanitized between guests. The paper towel is always left at the end of the roll upon arrival with no replacements . Also no room accommodations that I know of, no daily cleaning like other hotels let alone this being a "resort". Also there will be only one extra toilet paper roll if you're lucky. Outdoor pools are not in operation often and drained. The connected restaurant always takes forever to get your food and very hard to even get a water refill. The blinds are extremely difficult to operate to see the view you paid for and the balcony has carpet which is not clean. Trying to get to the patio is difficult as they have long blinds that will not open well and will often fall off. The shower is awful, dirty and low pressure. They do not replace towels unless you call and I discovered a "guest services" charge that I am going tk call about. The front desk staff is never welcoming or approachable anytime I have gone. Very disappointing.

We stayed at The Shallows for three nights in October 2024, and the resort is still wonderful under the new owners. Unfortunately, staying at The Shallows now comes with rules - no daily housekeeping service, leave dirty towels outside our door, and receive new towels that are crawling with mosquitoes and bugs. Also, empty our own trash at the dumpster if we don't put the garbage can outside the door by 10:00am, and make your own bed. This was supposed to be a nice get-away weekend where we don't have to worry about housekeeping. While we understand that some things have changed since Covid, we don't expect to pay $200 a night to clean our own room and remove dirty towels and garbage - not our idea of a vacation. We've stayed in many motels and hotels since the Covid pandemic and have always had daily housekeeping. Unfortunately we will not be staying at The Shallows again.
