I bought my sister a gift certificate of $180.00 for her birthday to enjoy a massage at Rapture…read more When she was filling out the form they asked her to provider her pronoun. This was not an optional question however it should be since its personal. She declined to answer the question online and by doing so could not complete the form. She went to Rapture in person on her appointment date to fill out any forms needed for the massage. She's been to spas before so she knows the routine is pretty straight forward when you're there. In this case however, it was not. While there she was told by a Rapture employee that she would have to answer the question and disclose her pronoun that she prefers. She explained to them that this is not necessary and that she doesn't feel comfortable disclosing this information to them or to anyone else for that matter. Rapture declined service due to this unnecessary, and what should be optional question to answer. They literally told her that they can't provide a massage service that has already been paid for through a gift certificate because she wouldn't disclose her pronoun preference. The employee also said this was required in case of an emergency. What emergency service would actually care or even ask what someones pronoun is? They don't. Furthermore, Rapture didn't even offer to refund the GC even though they weren't providing the service. The least they can do is provide a refund. That would be the descent thing to do. Not decline service and keep the money. Rapture, I have issued a charge back on to my credit card for services not provided.

Like many others, I have been overwhelmed by our current social context, work, and trying to assist my kids with schooling at home. Time for self-care, right? (Insert sadness). I started work earlier today, moved meetings, and left early, so that I could make this appointment. Needless to say, I was looking forward to some compassionate, skillful care. (Insert more sadness). I arrived five minutes early as instructed. Knocked and waited. Knocked and waited. An individual come to the door and explained that she was part of another business and asked me to wait while she checked with Carol downstairs. She came back shortly and explained that my appointment had been cancelled? Pardon me? "Yeah, your email didn't work, so your appointment was cancelled." "My email?," I asked incredulously. "Yes," she confirmed. Stunned, I went back to my car to check my email. After all, I may have missed the cancellation email. After searching my email, there was no cancellation email. Instead, there were THREE emails, including one from yesterday, affirming my appointment (photo below). This is advertised as a woman owned, minority business, and it's on the Hilltop! I was looking forward to supporting this business. Miscommunication happens, client error happens, we all miss the mark sometimes. I get it. Those things do not and should not define this business--but the mark was missed today. You could have helped to correct some of this by: (1) ensuring you cancel appointments, to be considerate of other's time. (2) It would have been a small, but kind gesture to come to the door, meet me yourself, and explain. The lack of the aforementioned has left me even more weary and feeling unvalued as a potential client. (Super sad). Yelp fam, have any suggestions for therapeutic massage in the Tacoma/Lakewood/Steilacoom/University Place/Fircrest area? Please send me a private message.

I was so happy to be going. I sit in my car and drive people around so I get really stiff!! Plus a bit of a knee problem that has made me really stiff. First I went in the sauna. That helped loosen me up for massage. Steve really worked on my low back and quad and hamstring. He did such a good job I was actually walking better after! I told my self I needed this way more often. But due to a hectic schedule I finally am starting 2024 off right. I signed up for twice a month!! Went yesterday. Had myself a sauna first then the massage. Basically we had to start over since I was gone so long. But I felt better after. I was looser for my chiropractor today too. I really enjoy Steve's method. He doesn't look you in the eye much tho haha. Doesn't bother me that much. See ya soon Steve!

We always get general admission and the regular Korean scrub. It is recommended that you arrive at least an hour ir two before scrub time so you can shower and soak to soften that skin! After getting our towels we stored our items in lockers and got showering. They have a mugwort tea tub which is also used to rinse your skin. Be careful not to contaminate the tub with post-rinse tea. The wet area has multiple soaking tubs of various temperature, including one cold plunge. The steam room and dry sauna are also here. It is recommended to rinse off in between the tubs, steam, and sauna. The Korean ladies call your name once it's time to get scrubbing. There are 2 scrub rooms which are both communal and each lady gets her own table. Here is where the magic happens. As you are asked to flip on all 4 sides, they scrub all the dead skin off your entire body, including your nooks and crannies! They rinse you off periodically with warm water and also rub your neck and head. Once you are done you are free to use the heated rooms and salt room. It is not recommended to go back to the wet room post-scrub. I always like to lotion up once I'm squeaky clean and go to the salt room to lay on their heated floor. The heated rooms are dry heat with different themes and temperatures. There is a Korean restaurant on site which smells SO GOOD but we haven't had the timing to try it yet. They also have a tea room for extra charge.

I just had no desire to go until a few days ago when I booked a massage and got a day pass. I thought it would be a nice treat for myself. It was a wonderful amazing experience! All staff I met were friendly. Given a tour of the place when I checked in. Robe, towels, and cap also given at check in. My massage therapist was Alex. She is so tiny but got some real strong hands. This girl does NOT need a man to open a pickle jar. I went to the FIR rooms. I tried all 4 rooms, which have different temperature ranges. I then realized, I don't like hot rooms so I went to the cold room. The pool area which also have about 4 different pools with different temperatures ranges. I went for the cold pool, the temp says it was 60-65 degrees but I felt like it was a little colder than that. Overall, I fell in love with this place. I did not get to try their restaurant, but I will once I go back. They have water you can buy or you can bring in your own. Also, NO PHONES. Don't wait too long like I did, and give this place a try!

UGH IF I COULD GIVE YOU NO STARS!!!!!…read more These guys were at the top of my list when I searched for massage places that accept worker's compensation insurance. I visited their website, reviewed all their services and read their reviews. I was eager to get relief from a job-related injury. However, I quickly discovered they are no longer willing to help. They advertise on their website that they assist with bodily and work-related injuries, but they have stopped doing so because they don't get paid the way they want when dealing with L and I. I was told this directly by a team member when I called. It's unacceptable that the medical field prioritizes profit over patient care. I injured myself on the job through no fault of my own, yet I am being denied proper treatment. This is selfish and unjust. If you want to retain customers, update your website immediately so people in genuine need are not misled or left suffering.

I receive regular massages and facials (high end to medium standard/locally & during my travels) so I am very experienced in spotting a quality spa and know what great service looks like! The dim lighting and ambiance is very nice and calming. The establishment feels exceptionally clean and nicely decorated, even the waterfall faucet was fascinating! Not high end but good enough, great quality massage spot. My masseuse, Stephanie, is so skilled, has great technique and was in tune with my body. She truly has the magic touch and maintained the firm pressure that I like. The customer service was excellent from all of the staff members. I love how easy it was for me to book online (a requirement of mine), even last minute booking worked out well! BUT...I should have CALLED to book as it is required to receive the $10 off of the first massage. Oh well, I love to support small business. The location is fairly easy to find with the help of Google Maps but, can be hard to spot since I do not recall seeing a business sign along the main road (I could be wrong). They share a building and entry with another business (I think it was some insurance company). The massage business sign is on the door so you know it's the right place! I was so pleasantly surprised by University Place Massage. I will definitely be a regular here with Stephanie. I highly recommend checking this place out ASAP!
