I checked out Stag Cafe today. And I HONESTLY will not be…read morereturning. I walked in, Wasn't spoken to even though (I think was one of the owners) was at the front talking with someone, not a simple acknowledgment or anything. A gal walked up and asked if I was going to order Togo or eat in. I had the tiny human with me, I said eating in and then preferred to sit inside. She sat me right next to the front door and told her I have someone else coming. She moved us into the cafe area with more chairs. Before we moved, I asked about a high chair. They don't have any by the way. (So, strike one for being a place I can frequent since there isn't seating options for kiddos.) I was sat for more than 10 minutes (Tori had time to walk over from across the street and sit down and look over the menu) before we were asked if we were ready to order. (Never took our drink order) So we ordered our food and our waters... from the tap. In that time, I walked up to the font and asked about WiFi for my daughters iPad. No free WiFi, you have to log into your own spectrum account and you get a "free trial" which is only 30 minutes, so I just handed her my phone to watch and she played games that didn't need WiFi. T got soup and a sandwich, I got shrimp and grits and el got a kids grilled cheese. I was shocked to read that the kids grilled cheese came with 2 sandwiches so I jumped on it. if she didn't eat both then that is extra for later. We waited over 30 minutes for our food. (If we would have used that free trial WiFi, we would have been charged for WiFi time because of this crazy wait time) All of this food could quite literally have come out in 7-10 minutes. Tori didn't receive half her stuff The kids grilled cheese came out and the owner questioned the server on the menu and almost took the second sandwich. I reminded her that is what it said on the menu. My food didn't come. Another 5 or so minutes go by and I get my food. It was supposed to come with salt, pepper, paprika, bacon, and cheese. I got plain grits (that were Luke warm at best) and the plainest looking shrimp in a bowl. It's 15.99 on their menu. I was expecting something spectacular. I waited because we were never given silver ware. Finally the server brought it out. After that, I walked back up to the front told them I hate to send my food back but I opened a menu and asked them to remake it. At this point I am waiting on my food. T had to go back to work, so she left with over half her stuff in a Togo box... Eleanor ate almost both sandwiches. My food comes out and I am 99 percent sure that they gave me the same bowl and just put the seasonings on top, sprinkled less than an oz of cheese on it, topped it with under cooked bacon and set it out. It was not hot the cheese wasn't even in the slightest melting. And I was highly disappointed in the service I received. I go to pay, and it's 28.89. Quite literally I was confused as it shouldn't be but about 23-24 bucks. (I know it's just 5 bucks... but I was still confused) They charge for tap water, yall. And they charged me for water for my daughter who had water FROM MY OWN HOUSE. I was told the owners were making comments about charging for water. Their menu states bottled water is 2.02 NOT TAP WATER. No one ever apologized, no one went out of their way to make it right. I was charged full price for food that I probably could have gotten better at waffle house. (Not hating on Waffle House here) But really, I was genuinely excited to come because they carry black rifle coffee. Now, I'll just avoid it and wait for the day BRC opens in that old Payless building. Also, they weren't busy. When I got in, we were the only table to be there. Then another family walked in they also waited a while for their food. I even cleaned up the mess my kid made off the floor because I knew if I wrote a review, that could have been a counter point. I was in the service industry for a long time and this is just not okay. We truly don't know to fix something unless we're told it's broken. .... Well Stag Cafe. It's broken. I'm all about showing grace and giving everything a fair shot. But I wouldn't want anyone I know go through this. This restaurant will NOT be there much longer.

It was tasteless and dry and TOUGH and the biscuits were canned and cold. Since when does a restaurant charge for tap water? Isn't that against the law? The owner was quite rude and talks to her staff very condescending with the most irritating sounding, loud voice. Very unprofessional. I HAD hoped this place would be good as I can literally walk there from my house but I won't go back again and have told friends not to bother. This owner won't last long. Sad.

The service I received in these stores were good to exemplary. Dillards and Earthbound were my favorite stores in the mall and where I received the best discounts, got hard to find or rare items, free gifts with purchase at Lancome in Dillards, and had the most exemplary customer service from Caroline at Lancome & Robert in men's shoes at Dillards and Sarah in Earthbound. I wish I was able to spend more time in the mall to see Ulta and Five Below yet my time was limited there. I purchased items at discounted prices in all of the stores I mentioned. I would definitely come back to this mall again.

Mrs. K. was on a mission for a few things from Bath & Body Works, and after navigating the lumpy terrain of a Wilmington cemetery earlier, she was ready for some smooth, level walking. Having a purpose gave the visit a bit more shape, and that was welcome. Independence Mall has been around since 1979, opening in the heyday of American mall culture with Belk-Beery, JCPenney, and Sears as its original anchors. A fourth wing came along in 2001 to make room for Dillard's, and the place has seen a fair bit of redesign since then. These days, it leans more open and airy, with nods to Wilmington's coastal vibe. We weren't in a hurry, so we mostly wandered just taking it in. We ducked into a couple of shops, browsed a bit, and yes, came away with the Bath & Body Works haul we'd hoped for. All in all, a relaxed and satisfying stop. [Review 1352 of 2025 - 4471 in North Carolina - 24904 overall]
