It's been awhile since we ate here.So we decided to come for lunch since we were going to be on that side of the island.So it wasn't that bz when we arrived.So we seated ourselves.Then we ordered our drinks.We tried there plantation iced tea.It had a good taste n also refreshing.Soon after we placed our orders.My girl friend got the Regular Saimin.Then for myself I got the Hamburger Locomoco with over easy eggs side order potato mac salad and we had the Furikake fries.The fries were good!.No to salty and overly dressed.My girlfriend enjoyed her her saimin.The broth had the good flavor and with everything else it hit the spot!.Surprisingly she finished it!..As my Locomoco and potato Mac salad?.Oh man!!.I was loving it!.It was so good!..Honestly one the best I've had.Of course I polished my plate.Im glad I finally tired there Locomoco.We had a good time and also the service was good!.When back on the westside we will definitely be stopping by.Maybe next time I'll try there corn beef Locomoco?Or any of there special's?.Will see.

One of our favorite places we ate at! Vegetarians, this is where you find real vegetarian food! I was so excited and ordered the trio plus the vegetation Loco moco. I highly suggest the trio appetizer!! We were both so glad we tried them and thought it was a great way to serve vegetarian appetizers. The vegetarian Loco moco is made with a handmade veggie patty which also excited me. The vegetarian gravy is white which sort of weirded me out. I actually would've been okay to order the normal gravy but I wanted to give it a try. I felt it needed more seasoning. All in l, great service and food!

We were here twice while on the island, I have to say this is a must stop if you are passing through Hanapepe. It is located in the same center as the Kauai Kookie factory (We visited there as well, review soon!). It doesn't look like much from the outside and once you sit inside, it doesn't look like the dishes fit the ambiance. Splashes of red here, different color there, I thought this was a Jamaican restaurant at first. There are lots of windows thru-out on the inside but mask mandate are still in effect to enter the premise. Bathroom is pretty clean here. We ordered a few items ranging from the scampi pasta (you can have it with the head on or the head off which I thought was a nice touch) , the MCS combo, the kid's burger, and the ribs that came with a side of salad. All tasty, the sauce on the pasta is ridiculously good. The MCS combo with the chili peppa chicken is delish, not too spicy at all. The kid's burger comes with a small side of fruit and veggies. Super cute. The ribs tho, I couldn't say it was perfect. It was dry on the inside as if these ribs were frozen and reheated. But taste wise, it was good and we had no problem finishing. So yes, there is an identity crisis here with the interior and the food, but I am happy to report that the food was one of the best we've had while here. Of course, we totally forgot to mention this discount we saw on TV (That I am not going to mention here ) and we left because we were in a rush to get back to Lihue. That, and a visit to get some cookies next door. Hopefully we will be back again soon and I can remember the discount. Parking is plenty.

First time trying this place since we live on the opposite side of the island and it did not disappoint! The chili pepper chicken is one of the best ones we've tasted on island. Definitely will make a trip back just to eat here :)

I've passed by this place for years and haven't tried it, finally decided to check um out. We got the steak/ shrimp plate and the kauai shrimp pasta, soo yummy! The pasta was full of flavor and the steak was perfectly cooked. I loved that they had kauai shrimp, not many restaurants have it. I do wish they pan fried the shrimp instead of grill because they get more dried out on the grill (i.e. the shrimp head had no juice). But I do like that they peel it for you. We came on a Thursday night and the three girls running the show were on top of it!

Great, great, great! They had me with the amazing Saimin, and Coconut Shrimp apps, but the combo of their Asian pork ribs combined with delectable heads- on grilled shrimp was way over the top! My wife's grilled Mahi Mahi was a very generous portion and was cooked perfectly and finished with lemon caper sauce, my daughter's Asian Salad with Mahi Mahi came with bouncy fresh greens, generous slab of grilled Mahi. You'd be a fool NOT to save room for the dessert menu! My table tried the Apple Cobbler with Ice Cream, Strawberry Chiffon Cream cheese Square. (Hey, it's vacation!!). Oh, don't forget this is a BYOB!! Super reasonably priced, great for families, and this IS the spot preferred by the locals as the best eats in town!

Another grill in town botched our reservations for a birthday table of eight. When I called the MCS Grill, the receptionist helped me by being honest and specific: a party of eight was finished with dessert and ready to complete payment. She reserved the table for us, and it was nearly ready when we arrived. So helpful! For appetizers, we ordered pork nachos and coconut shrimp. Beverages were served promptly. In our party of eight, we had several offers of pork rib combos, one rib plate, fish and chips, and a salad plate. The sweet BBQ sauce got many compliments. I especially enjoyed the MCS version of potato macaroni salad. We had dessert plans elsewhere, but the staff insisted on bringing birthday cupcakes and a slice of lemon cake to share. The wait staff was warm, friendly, informative, and responsive.

MCS combo was mean. The chili pepper chicken was crispy, not drenching in sauce yet juicy when you bite into it. Highlight for me was the noodles. Great flavor which was complimented with bacon but the best part was that it wasn't greasy at all. Oh and the mac salad was on point.

Get the Teri burger (I think that's the name) and thank me later. Grilled pineapple and jack cheese on literally the largest burger I've seen in a long time. Casually driving by and stopped in for a quick lunch, ended up being one of my favorite meals on the island! 10/10 recommend. read more

Stopped here for a quick lunch. It was empty, which can be worrisome if you don't know what to expect. However, the woman working there was very nice and did a great job. They also have some amazing sweet tea that came with free refills. read more

We had takeout the other night while visiting family on Kauai. Excellent! We had the fried noodles and the Chili Peppa Chicken. Delicious. If you want a quick & authentic local style taste of local food I highly recommend MCS Grill. Very low key and laid back restaurant. read more

Having stayed in the Waimea Town area in the past, I didn't expect much. But I was so happy to find this place in Hanapepe. Had the lentil-based meatloaf the other night and absolutely loved it. Brought a friend there tonight for it, and they were out. But instead, had the "trio"... we thought it was vegan...it is not. (It's "vegetarian"). But they do also have a vegan burger. And reasonable prices. read more

My wife ordered the fish and chips and it was just plain bad. The fish wasn't fried like what you think fish and chips should be. It was almost like a corn dog with fish inside. I got the steak and chicken combo. It was just average. The steak was flavorless. I'm sure there are some better things on the menu but definitely not what we got. read more

This is the second time we have had dinner here the Scampi was terrific. My son had the Fried Noodles and Chicken. Noodles were perfect. Taste was superb if i could i would eat here every other night. Service was fast and friendly staff is great. read more

Been here several times and always order the Pulehu steak medium rare and it always come to me medium at best. Don't serve steak if you cannot cook it properly!!! always told them about this but they never try to solve the problem. read more

I had the vegetarian loco moco. I love how the vegetarian patty is made from scratch, not a store-bought vegan sausage or boca burger. The vegetarian gravy was awesome and definitely full of flavor. It's hard to find vegetarian/vegan options around the island, and I'm so happy to have found this place! read more

Friday, 10/24 was the first time our family tried this restaurant even though we live only 5 minutes away. We will definitely return. I ordered the mahimahi with capers and was quite happy with it. Our party also ordered the kauai shrimp scampi with pasta...this was awesome and we would all order it again. Good taste, cheesy, lots of mushrooms, and 2 garlic bread perfect for soaking up the tasty sauce. I actually wanted to ask for an extra garlic bread for that very reason but decided not to. I also tried the POG spritzer and I liked it but not for the price. And for dessert we ordered the peach cobbler with icecream. That was also very tasty. We'll be back. read more

Definitely not just for vegetarians! I had the chili pepper fried chicken, and it is amazing! I could probably just sit here and eat pounds of that! I also had the Mac salad and brown rice. The mac salad wasn't anything spectacular, pretty similar to any other that you get in the islands. The brown rice was a little over cooked, but still decent. Overall it was a quality meal, and pretty cheap for a quick lunch stop in Hanapepe. read more

Wow, we had a fantastic experience here at the MCS Grill. Super friendly staff, and the food was outstanding too! We will definitely be back next trip to Kauai. We ate the nachos and the chicken & steak combo. We were stuffed but we did take a piece of the passion fruit cheesecake with us! Wish we would have ordered two, three, four or just the whole platter!!! But seriously, the food and the dessert were awesome! If we could give more stars we would. I would love your recipe for the passion fruit cheesecake bars, can you share? read more

My fiance and I were in Kauai for a week and this was by far the best food we had on the island! The staff was so nice and helpful, especially giving my fiance recommendations as she is a vegetarian. She had the Vegetarian Meatloaf and I had the Hawaiian chili pepper chicken, we were both blown away by the taste and quality. We actually tried to go back another night while we were on the island (I fully intended to order the exact same dish, that's how delicious it was) but they were closed for the Friday after Thanksgiving. We WILL be back there first thing when we visit Kauai again! read more

Their chili peppa chicken plate is the best thing in the world I swear..... They're super generous with their portions and everything is so reasonably priced! The staff at MCS grill are very welcoming and friendly, they really make your dining experience worth while. Shaylin was our server and she was amazing! Super friendly and attentive. Can't wait for her to get off maternity leave so we can dine with her again! The meats at MCS Grill are flavorful and moist, very tasty. The rib meat falls off the bone! There's a good selection of vegetarian options, too, including a very nice salad with delicious dressing, and some creative vegetarian appetizers. Portions are extremely generous. Always have the best customer service and fast servers! I love the mcs combo and the Kalua nachos. it's a must have if you are a first timer. Great for the family:) call in ahead of time if you are doing take-outs. It may take awhile since some nights are really busy with parties and catering. The only downside is sometimes the portions are great and sometimes it's so little, wish they would keep it consistent at times. That's what made me stopped from going so often. read more

on our way to waimea canyon, my friends and I stopped in Hanapepe for lunch. after circling Hanapepe town couple of times, we decided on MCS grill. the wait staff was amazingly friendly. the menu was limited but we found 2 vegetarian options. with low expectations we placed the order. it took a while to get the food even though we were the only customers. boy were we pleasantly surprised! the food was awesome! the ingredients tasted so fresh! the sauces were yummy! I loved loved the food. IMHO the best burger I had in all of Hawaii. read more

One of the best additions to Kauai's dining options. Lot's of choices, many different items and many familiar comfort foods. Unreal portions and flavors! The chicken and fried saimin combo, pulehu steak and chili pepper chicken, kalua nachos, veggie trio, pastas, and so much more! Desserts, iced drinks and good, local service. You will love it... guaranteed! read more

Breakfast is wonderful. The French Toast is heavenly. Everyone at my table needed just one more bite....till my plate was empty. Would order everyday if we could. My friends loved their omelet and my husband said his (Sunday only) fried rice was the best he has had. Came back another day for lunch and entire table again raved, this time about; both combo dishes with chicken were great ( a lot of food), fish and and chips, veggie burger and chiffon pie all very good. Shaylin is fantastic. She is attentive, funny and helpful. You could not ask for a better server/owner. This place is a great find. read more

Recommend the Pulehu Steak and the Kauai Shrimp with pasta-wish our server would have had a better attitude-was not upselled to dessert eventhough i heard they had great desserts.Left there thinking maybe server should not be in food service! I had the peppa chicken and steak combo with green salad and brown rice for $16. The chicken was amazing but the steak was nothing exceptional, it was grilled but did not have a robust flavor. I would come back for the chicken but would not order steak again. I think trying it for lunch would also be good. Mostly all the seating is inside and the ambiance is similar to a diner read more

Established in 2013.

MCS Grill is a small restaurant that was built upon a strong family foundation. As cancer took Chimes' brother, MCS Grill donates all benefits and proceeds from events to The Relay for Life in memory of their lost loved ones. Their main incentive was to bring something different to the Westside without taking away from the locals. Featuring vegetarian options along-side the basic local food, we noticed the huge increase in appreciation of their diverse menu. All of the dishes, including the vegetarian options, are made in house using family recipes. When you're in Hanapepe on the Garden Island of Kauai, stop in at MCS Grill located at 1-3529 Kaumualii Highway.

The list was introduced to us by the owner who explained every drink was made with top shelf spirits, fresh juices and fruit, and was something they had found, enjoyed, and recreated to serve. Their love for balance and presentation shown through. We tried 4 of their creations and LOVED all of them. Star 4- Environment, the back area is relaxing, beautiful, is on island time. Just what we have been needing on the west side, a local restaurant with a diverse menu selection, reasonable prices and quality food in a comfortable family style atmosphere. These folks came in with a vision and in my opinion are definitely on the right track.
