I'm sorry for this review. I normally keep a positive attitude with food and beverage service. Not this visit, and first time here. Further, I'm a big believer in talking to a manager. However when leaving, there "wasn't one present".
Walked up on a Sunday afternoon (almost 3pm), greeted happily by the hostess, offering outside seating (band playing) or inside seating ("you'll be served quicker"). We opted for inside, sat at table in the very back edge (table not cleaned, but they were getting over a rush). Looked over the menus, knew our beers to order, figured out our food, husband used the bathroom, and by the time he was back (20 mins) we "met" our server. And it goes like this:
Waitress: can I get you something to drink?
Customer: 2 pints of New Castle and 2 waters, and I think we can order too.
W: ok.
C: I'll have the Rueben on sour dough and he'll have the Shepard's pie.
W: ok.
A few minutes pass, waitress comes back, spilling the beers all over her hands. Places them down and then says (and this is the kicker)
W: ok, I've got your beers and waters. I've put in your orders. Can I just give you the check now to pay, I need to catch a plane.
Are you kidding me? Did you just ask me to pay a check for food and drink we haven't even tasted yet? What if we didn't like the food? What if I want another beer? What if I want desert? What if...anything?? They also stipulate a minimum $15 charge for a credit card; only paying with a credit card, I wouldn't be able to order another beer...not to mention it is not our problem that you have to catch a flight; this does NOT mandate our payment or lack of service. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. This behavior is UNACCEPTABLE.
C: no, that's ok, you can transfer us to the next server...
The manager (I believe) was also helping out at this time. She walked by and cleaned our table. She was the one to serve our food (she said they had a really busy lunch, very cordial, and asked if we needed anything). We did have a new waitstaff. He was friendly and greeted us. But this is where it really digressed. Food was served, we ate, and now we sit for 23 mins, just looking around. An anonymous man bussed the one plate, my husband opted to get our own to-go container himself, and so much for another beer...
But it gets worse. We sit for another 15 minutes waiting for a check, or ANYONE...finally I say we should go. We walk towards the bar and stand (we don't dine and dash). We finally see our new waiter, stop him and ask for a check. He comes back and says, "I'll be your cashier" and walks away. My husband literally walks to the closest ATM and takes out money, comes back and places the money on the tray, and we leave.
This was a horrible experience. The waitstaff should do better. The Service Industry is sad because of YOU today. You make US all look BAD. Certainly it was a busy day, but people spending their hard worked money should not suffer or be kicked to the curb, because: "we had a busy lunch", "there was a band", or even may favorite--you would be fired in my establishment for forcing someone to pay/tip--"I have a plane to catch". Not good guys. NOT GOOD!
On a positive note, the food was great!! Kudos to the kitchen for the Rueben and Shepard's Pie!! Good job!!
