While in Lubbock, you must visit McPherson Cellars if you like wine. We are a fan in Fredericksburg at Texas Wine Collective, but very nice and bigger selection here at the source. We arrived just as they opened so got full attention of our server. We did the red wine tasting and she also let us try a few not on the menu. Wine is delicious and they have a great place to sit and relax while sipping. We got 10% off since TWC members and they had several bottles on sale that we picked up. McPherson Cellars was more modern and warehousey than your usual winery. Located downtown instead of in nature/middle of nowhere, it's a spot that offers a wide selection of wines. The sitting area in the front is small and was packed when my friends and I got there around 4pm. I asked the lady at the counter if there were other options for seating and she offered the private garage space in the backyard that was vacant at the time. It was quiet back there but no one to check up on you or ask questions so it had pros/cons. The wine we chose was a bottle of Sangiovese. It was a perfect red, not too bitter/dry and not too sweet, right in the middle which is what I requested. read more

OMG... I love this winery!!! Texas owned, Texas grapes, Texas wine... their Cabernet Sauvignon is to die for... but the ambiance of the place right in downtown Lubbock is a superb surprise. Their availability for private events is great, and they take care of every single detail with such good care. Every time I visit my college daughters, this is the place we can't miss on our weekend schedule, and the staff is the most knowledgeable and friendliest in town, can't wait to go back soon!!! read more

My wife and I enjoyed sipping on a nice Rose in their tasting room. I liked my free tasting of their extremely flavorful and sweet orange muscat, but it was unfortunately unavailable by the glass due to its extremely high alcohol content. Nice, friendly service. There are much better wineries in town. The service was okay but knowledge of the wine pourers/servers was very-very basic, essentially the parroted the menu description of each tasting. I asked a few basic wine questions and none of the workers could answer (such as which wines are gold medal winners and is the French oak new or used). I've actually only been here twice and both were for events after normal business hours that included live music on the patio. The patio and decour are beautiful. If I had to think of complaints...the last time I was there they just had to keep bringing out chairs because there was such a huge crowd. This meant that not everyone had a table. It was also really crowded and hard to walk around. But we still had tons of fun! I've bought McPherson's wine at the grocery store before and I always really enjoyed it. Last time I was there I got a bottle of the Texas Red for $15. We got five glasses out of that bottle whereas we would've paid $4.50 per glass had we not bought the bottle. So that was a good deal. When they bring Crusty's Pizza to cook for summer patio nights MAKE SURE to try a pizza! My husband and I split a green chile chicken one for $10 and we were pretty fully and so happy we finally go to try it! I've heard that tastings are fun so I'll have to try that out soon. One star deduction for limited seating and table availability at an event. It was also kind of awkward to see a HUGE table in the middle of the patio filled with McPherson employees and friends sharing queso and chips someone brought from home and being generally loud and distracting from the music/environment. We all enjoyed the wines and our tastings The cozy industrial decor and furnishings were welcoming. We enjoyed a glass of wine with a great cheese plate. The wine tasting has a wide selection, and some are good. They offer a cheeseboard from a restaurant next door (La Diosa) which was not that good. The cheese selection was lacking. A few years ago McPherson won Grand Champion at Pacific Rim with a $14 albariño. Their wines are straightforward and easy to drink, and unlike comparable West Coast wines, well-priced. I'm a bit concerned that McPherson and others, like so many wineries nationwide, are less about the wine as they are the venue. So many try to be all about weddings and receptions with events centers that they seem to be forgetting the root of their existence, winemaking. The server wasn't particularly knowledgeable about the wines he poured for us, which isn't good for us oenophiles. I want the person pouring to know what's inside the glass. However, the rose' (Le Copains) was outstanding as was the marsanne. McPherson was one of the first Texas wineries and has learned with experience that some varietals are better for the Texan climate than others. read more

Great spot in the Depot District for wine tasting and it looked like they had an event space as well. The wine tasting was $7 and was a pre-chosen selection of 6 wines I believe. The wines were all very good and fairly reasonably priced. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and friendly. Didn't rush us through the wines or hover but always seemed to be right there with the next tasting after we finished the last. Great service! read more

Reserved a patio event here and the venue is beautiful. I was able to make small changes to the contract without any hassle..a very professional and flexible staff. I commend the management. The service was good and our event went well except for the music selection and a harsh & unnecessary tone from one of the staff concerning parking. (We were unloading food for our event and he assumed that we were parking in their lot and he could have asked us but instead gave marching orders about parking which we already knew and had informed our guest about...but whatever) Back to the music..I was told that we could create a playlist and that they could connect my phone to their sound/speaker system. Unfortunately the young lady that worked our event only new how to play pandora and wasn't given instructions on how to play music from our phones. So the music was meh because pandora played a very random selection of slow songs and I had created a great playlist for for line dancing & getting people out their seats:) The bar across from the patio was jamming more than us lol. But it's all good. We made it work and the young lady that worked our event was very accomodating and kind. Every guest that attended can't stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and want to know more about booking events here. I will definitely refer people here. Rosé was on the flight (do not like it) and they were super cool about subbing it out for something more to my preferences. The Chenin Blanc was fantastic. Being that this was my first visit to McPherson Cellars, I had high hopes since their La Diosa sangria is the best in the market. The tasting room is very cozy and we received great service who explained the varietals and where the grapes are sourced. Their La Herencia red and Domaine white were really good. In addition, after the tasting you can order a glass or bottle of your favorite along with a cheese board and relax in the lounge area of the tasting room. In the end, I was very satisfied with my visit and rank McPherson up there with my favorite Texas wineries; Becker Vineyards and William Chris. read more

Checked out McPherson while in town on business. The staff was super friendly, very warm and welcoming. I did the $5 tasting and got a really nice tour. I ended up purchasing two bottles for under $25 total! They were very personalized with their customer service and I felt like a regular, when I left. Had some time to kill and a friend told me to try McPherson's since I like wine. Stopped in for a tasting, which was only $5. Tried several different wines, most from the list, plus a request. They were surprisingly good. I say surprisingly as, up until now, I haven't found Texas wine too appealing, and I just returned from Napa so the bar was set pretty high. Went back on my way to the airport and picked up three bottles to take back to Dallas. Can't wait for their private room to be available for bigger groups. read more

Just received my wine club shipment of 2018 Roussanne. It is amazing. Had it with a seafood salad dinner and it went so well that I almost drank the whole bottle. The Roussanne grape seems to grow very well in Texas, and I am happy to see McPherson using the grape for a stand alone wine. read more

In Lubbock for work and someone suggested this place. Well in a nutshell I'm so glad I came over. Abbey, was my wine tasting guru, my tour guide and she managed to sign me up to become a wine club member. I've just started drinking wine a couple years ago and have memberships at a couple of places but I am now going to cancel one or two of them. I love red wines but I have to say that the whites at McPherson's are absolutely phenomenal. I left there buying a case of wine, which has by the way you get 20% discount on if your a wine club member. So yes make a stop at McPherson's for a wine tasting. read more

One of only 4 wineries in Texas that I've found that I truly love every wine they produce. Features Spanish and French (rare for Texas) grape varieties, this is Texas wine making at its finest.
