You feel far out, but it's only 15 minutes from downtown Lubbock and an easy drive. Staff were friendly, and we enjoyed the large space indoors and outdoors. The cushion wicker furniture on the patio was comfortable. I did not see a snack menu nor was offered one even though another review mentioned a charcuterie board. It would have been nice to have a bowl of nuts or something simple while tasting. I only gave 4 stars because as a red wine drinker, they were not my favorite wines, but they weren't bad either. Went to this winery last weekend. Their website showed they were having a tailgate party. No mention of early closing due to an event. We arrived with our family including little ones. We were not accepted very graciously. We were told as soon as we entered that they were closing at 4 PM for a private event. We had roughly 50 minutes to have some wine. Since all four adults ordered the same wine, we could've shared a bottle. But we were told since they were closing, we would have to purchase the wine by the glass. We did, not knowing that this would end up costing nearly 3 times what a bottle of wine would cost. Disappointed! read more

I did their sweet wine tasting and definitely came across some favorites. Unfortunately, I can't find the ones I want in the store. The first thing was the attitude in general of the server. Describing the wine tastings was very confusing. The pours were very unequal to my wife and myself. But the kicker for us both was going from white to red my wife asked why we didn't get a different glass for the different wines and the response was the PH Level was the same and "That would be to many glasses to wash". My wife asked for a new glass anyway when we switched from white to red and the facial expressions, she gave her coworker was seen by my myself and my wife through the reflection in the glass window. It was only us in the tasting room and during that time both of them were on cell phones and talking very loudly. The whole professionalism leaves a huge bad taste in our mouths. I even tipped her 15% but should have tipped her nothing quite honestly. Previously we had been there and had a great experience, and the tastings were in a flight which was so much nicer and were not that expensive as our tastings. We were totally blown away by the cost due to not truthfully understanding what we were actually getting. In closing we will not be back and will not be recommending this winery. read more

We visited the tasting room of Llano Estacado on a Sunday afternoon and it was open but fairly quiet. The staff was quite friendly and welcoming. The tasting area is very nice, clean and looks to be fairly new. Plenty of seating to choose from. It was a hot TX day or we might have chosen an outdoor seat but the A/C was doing its job and we stayed inside. They have several options for how to approach your tasting, you can go a tasting route or order a flight of wines, and amount of wines tasted can vary. We each chose to go the flight route: I chose Reds and my friend chose Whites. The staff asks about what type wines you like and then picks 4 selections for you. My request was for Cabs, in the dry/bold category and they did a good job honoring my request. Flight of 4 wines was only $15 and when served, she explained each wine, its origins and flavor profile. Wines were good, of the four I really liked 2, which is a pretty good success rate as tastings go. We did not tour the grounds or facility, partly because of the aforementioned heat and also we had limited time. Definitely a fun spot to check when in the area. read more

After a couple of years of trying their wines I finally got the opportunity to visit Llano Estacado Winery! I was so excited to pull up and walk in! I was warmly greeted by one of the employees and asked to sit down. Walking into Llano is such a warming and welcoming experience. Their open tasting area has several places to sit, tons of merchandise and bottles for sale, and a couch with a cute chalkboard above it with inspirational words, such as "my doctor prescribed glasses". I got a chance to try six of their whites including their signature white, pinot grigio, albariño, stella rosé, chenin blanc, and gewürztraminer. My favorites were the signature white, chenin blanc, gewürztraminer. I ended up going with my favorite--the chenin blanc. It is so crisp and refreshing. Also, I bought one of their sale wines. I am so excited to get home and open it up! Parker was so sweet and amazing! He took over for someone else and was so helpful and attentive. Also, I appreciated his insight about the wines and being able to open a bottle that I bought so I could have a glass. The only negative was the number of flies that made it a little uncomfortable to sit inside especially and enjoy their wines. I was constantly using my hands to stop flies from getting in my wine. So, hopefully in the future they will find a way to get rid of them. I love that they have outdoor seating, so I am sitting outside with my glass of chenin blanc, sipping, and enjoying some country music! Thank you for the amazing hospitality, Llano! read more

I heart this place! I had been here for a tour and tasting maybe 5 years ago. It had been such a good experience back then that I had joined their wine club. I cancelled my membership only because I became pregnant and didn't want any wine when I couldn't drink. Yesterday we arrived just as a tour had left. A young man volunteered to help us try to catch up with the tour. He ended up having to give us our own tour and he did a fantastic job. The behind the scenes tour was informational. Llano is the biggest winery in Texas and I'm proud to say it was founded by 2 Tech professors. We all did a wine tasting with most of us opting to do the premium tasting. The pours were generous and of course the wine was good. I went home with a sauvignon blanc, voignier, and a port. I've got a couple of my Lubbock friends all but signed up for their wine club. A girls day out while we were Lubbock. I've been here previously and had taken tour so we opted to just do tasting We decided on the $5 tasting since we mainly like the sweeter/less dry wines. Additionally we had some tastings from the complimentary tasting menu. It wasn't crowded when we first arrived but it got packed shortly thereafter. Madison did a great job juggling a couple groups at the same time. She was also knowledgable and suggested a couple wines that were out of our regular comfort zone that ended up being very enjoyable. We had to ask over and over for our next tasting option and I had asked about the wine club membership and no one ever explained it. Ugh! Not to bash on Lubbock, (for I have a place in my heart for Lubbock) but... I was really unimpressed by the famed Llano Estacado. There's a curious trend going around these days, in which paying customers are condescended to by a growing class of snobbish retailers. While this might make anyone else's day, I can't say I appreciate it. And my group's Llano Estacado tour guide was the most unabashedly snobbish guy to grace the quaint Northern Texas landscape. During the terrible tour, (which involved more dramatic sighs than explanations) he let out a few gems, like: "We only do bottled wines here." To which I had to ask- "As opposed to...?" (Sigh and smirk.) "Boxed wines, like Franzia." My bad, I thought Llano Estacado was one of those new vineyards specializing in boxed wines. I must've taken a wrong turn down the interstate. And not to be the harbinger of bad news, but your sangria has the fruity undertones of a good plastic cup of Franzia. After our tour, we were led to the front counter, where, with sullen face and undisguised contempt, our guide handed us each one empty wine glass, and a menu. We asked to try a Moscato. He replied, "We don't do sweet wines until later" and looked away. I could only shove a cracker in my mouth to keep from unleashing my rapier wit and responding, "You suck." Fine- It's true that dessert wines are generally poured last in a tasting flight, so we'll put that aside; there's no reason why we can't live up to a few classist expectations. But when we requested a red wine to follow a white, the oddest thing happened. Instead of giving us new glasses, or even rinsing our old glasses, he simply refilled glasses that still had the dregs of our previous wines. So though I can't quite tell you what the Cabernet tastes like, I can definitely tell you how a Chardonnay-Cabernet tastes. It tastes sweet. All of Llano Estacado's wines are sweetened so that the overarching flavor of each wine is of the sugar content. I would imagine, by extension, that sugar is what the Cab tastes like. This penchant for sugar also appears in the winery's 'gourmet food' gifts-- the chocolate sauces, jellies, et al-- most contain high fructose corn syrup as the key ingredient. Now, I'm not suggesting that HFCS is bad, I'm just postulating that at $7 a jar, you could probably get yourself two bottles of Hershey's chocolate syrup at your nearest United grocery store. More corn syrup for your buck. Some food for thought. Bottom Line: A smile (and a fresh wine glass) go a long way. read more

I came here on a Saturday to tour and taste. There were only a few other people on my tour and the tasting went well. The staff all seem young most of them seemed like college students and I am not sure how much they really know about wine and the process besides what they memorize for the tour. I am not saying that I know everything about wine, I am just skeptical. They have a pretty cute shop where you can buy their wine as well as pretty much anything related to wine. The only thing I wish they had is an outdoor patio or a place you can enjoy their wine as well as eat. Even if they just had apps that paired with the wine - that would be fabulous! I will say they are doing some reno and it seems as though something like what I wished they had might happen soon. Llano wines tend to be more sweet than my taste runs to. My friends who like sweet wines love Llano. One of them will buy nothing else (incorrigible Texan). I like the Llano Texas Red, which I buy locally at Metzler's in Denton. My incorrigible friend likes the Chardonnay and other whites -- sweet and good. They offer tours. After touring and tasting many Texas wineries. I am truly impressed with this business. It is an award winning winery and deserves the awards. They do have a large range of wines, however some would complain about too many sweet wines [which are VERY good by the way]. Lets face it however, Americans prefer the sweeter wines and only the wine "experts" would say the drys at Llano are lacking, which I totally disagree with. This is a fun little short side trip if you have guests in town. There are tours every 20 minutes and a free wine tasting (though you do get just the one glass so the flavors are mixed a bit). We each got our choice of 5 wines, including sparkling wine and port. During the middle of the week you can watch them bottling wines, is what the guide said. I'd call and ask for times if you want to see that, to confirm if they are bottling. The tour guide we had was a very charming guy. He answered all the guests' questions in an informative and patient way, even kind of silly questions. His talk was full of interesting trivia. The wines are almost all very sweet, which is not exactly to my taste but my husband appreciated them. They offer several wines on location that are not sold in local stores, if you're a local and like the brand. I've visited Ilano Estacado a few times and enjoyed my visit each time. I think they host several events annually. I went with a friend when they were having a wine festival with music. You need to pay a small fee to get in but you get a wine glass and also get to taste maybe 2 or 3 wines for free. There were food and vendors selling art and craft too. They also have a small gift shop which is pretty nice. My favoriate wine here is the Moscato for sure. You can find their wine in your local grocery stores in Texas such as Market Street and HEB. read more
