HORRIBLE: This hotel is absolutely horrible: run down and needs updating. I stopped staying here when traveling to Lubbock about 5 years ago, which I do regularly, and for the same reasons why I will remove it again from places to stay. I was in room 308, which was a tad bit small, but I was fine with that.
Positives: Location is close to Loop 289 and Marsha Sharp, as well as a few retail places. Food is a little scarce, but with the access to the highways not a big deal, and if you are cooking for yourself, the kitchen and grills out back are nice additions. The lady working yesterday evening was very accommodating and extremely nice. I asked for ice as I drink lots of water and like it cold, and she took time to get me a whole bag for my stay.
Negatives: Old run down paint and furnishings in most of the rooms. The appliances are old and need updating with new things that are attractive and work more efficiently. Efficiency goes to less electricity use, which in turn will lead to lower bills for the hotel. The carpet in the hallways smelled horrible from mildew with people walking in wet from the pool, and if my memory serves me, it is the same carpet that was there in 2007 when I first stayed at this property.
The towels were old and need to be replaced with newer stuff. They were white which I actually like because you can smell the bleach and know they are at least clean.
The bed in this room wasn't too bad, but I really didn't get to enjoy it because the AC kept turning off, and being a top floor room, the temperature in August was able to climb to about 80 degrees with no air circulation, which led to an uncomfortable situation for me. I turned the AC on 5 times between check in and 1 am when I couldn't take it anymore (honestly I should have called before then and complained) and called the front desk. Being 1 am, I am certain I was not the most pleasant person to deal with, but when I asked if I could be moved, the lady told me that she only had 2nd floor rooms. That is unacceptable to me since I hate hearing people stomp above me. So I told her flat out that I wanted a top floor room, and she said that she would have to see if she could upgrade me to a room with a couch. I could care less about the couch...I wanted AC that worked so I could sleep without feeling like I was in the sauna at the gym.
I will give her this, she brought me a keycard to the new room (only after I suggested it) and I moved. I didn't pay much attention to the new room"s amenities, but I will say the AC worked perfectly.
My suggestion to the management is this: "If you are going to charge a nominal fee ($90 to $150) for a room, then you can afford to update those rooms and the amenities. Other properties do it all the time, and they seem to survive well in the market. Clean up and you will fill up."
I will be sending this in an email to the GM as well. Maybe if she hears this, she will step up her game a bit and get it cleaned up. Until then, back to Hilton properties I go. read more
