I was dismissed from your ER yesterday while in crisis. I peesented with a dental infection and mania. I was not treated for either. Last year I went septic with a dental infection and was in the ICU for four days. I spent a total of 16 days in the hospital. The pain is causing me to lose sleep, which feels like mania. I have bipolar disorder. If I have an extended session of mania, it leads to psychosis. I see a paychiatrist regularly and I actually saw her in the morning, but there is a paperwork issue and the meds she requested for me will not be filled to Tuesday. I know the ER is not a dentist or my psychiatrist, but I felt like I was in crisis so I went. I was hoping for antibiotics for the dental infection and maybe a bridge prescription of a couple of my psyxh meds to get me through until Tuesday. Instead I was summarily dismissed by Dr. Chad Kovala. "I'm not a dentist and your psychiatrist is treating you. I can't help you." It didn't matter that I went septic last year from the same issue. Apparently my inpatient psych history doesn't matter either. I was so distraught by his dismissal of me that I called the suicide helpline when I got to my car. I have the screenshot. I was on the phone with them for 30 minutes before I felt safe to drive home. I have never before been dismissed with such a smug and superior attitude. Yes, I know a dentist is the ultimate solution for my tooth issue and a psychiatrist needs to do long-term med adjustments but I was in CRISIS. My teeth are IN MY MOUTH AND THEY AFFECT MY HEALTH. I am terrified of ever utilizing your ER again. Hospitals are supposed to care for sick people. Period. You didn't. Do better. read more

I visited my uncle in the Critical Care Unit at McLaren Greater Lansing (room 511) on Sunday, March 15. Overall, the care on the unit is strong, but I had a concerning experience with one nurse, Jody. During my visit, she was rude when I asked for assistance for my uncle after a bowel movement, and it took about 45 minutes for him to be cleaned and cared for. Later, she yelled across the unit while I was walking away and made comments that felt unprofessional, especially in a critical care environment where my uncle is medically sedated to give his heart a break. When I returned to ask her name, she seemed dismissive and even preemptively said she expected a complaint. I am also an ICU nurse and understand the pressures of a critical care unit, but this behavior did not reflect the compassionate and professional environment I expect from McLaren. I hope the hospital reviews this to ensure family members feel respected and that the unit remains calm for critically ill patients. read more

The nursing staff is absolutely horrible!!! Was told by one assistant nurse on my first day that I was Lucky to get any food! And we heard the nurses badgering other patients AND refusing to help them!!!! The Doctors may be great, but the nursing staff and the cooks all need to be replaced!!!! Sadly both Lansing, MI hospital Emergency rooms have horrible care. My mom was in the ER admitted, but no beds, they never offered her food. 27 hours NO FOOD! They had food she couldn't eat, but offered her nothing she could eat. They gave her a bag of chips. 2 hours later she received dinner, and it was luke warm. This is not the way to treat sick people. McLaren Hospital - I would NEVER recommend for any reason! My husband has suffered with chronic pancreatitis for years - he was actually diagnosed by a McLaren ER doctor after seeing several gastroenterologists in the Lansing area. My husband averages approximately 2 major attacks per year, even cutting out/down on the processed meats/foods, red meats and alcohol - all "triggers" as he has been advised. Prior to McLaren moving from the old Greenlawn Campus, he was always treated with the utmost care and respect. The doctors even encouraged him to learn his triggers and the medications that suited him, for these attacks. After McLaren moved to their new Campus, everything changed for the worst. The past few times that he has been to the ER, he was treated as a drug seeker, put into a room, ignored and treated very poorly. The last time he went to the ER, the staff would not give him any medications, just one IV and told him that after that was done, he had to leave the Campus - with NO further treatments! They even went as far as to state that he needs to eat and drink as normal - which is definitely NOT the case - with chronic pancreatitis, it is best to fast for several days to relieve the pain - thus the recommendation of an IV to help feel the nutrients that are needed. It is very interesting that even our primary doctor will NOT recommend McLaren as she was also treated very poorly, and SHE IS A DOCTOR! The standard Yelp Review response from McLaren of "XXXX, we're sorry to see a review like this. We encourage you to contact our Patient Advocate at 517-975-8506 to further discuss your concerns about your visit. Thank you" is no help whatsoever as nothing has or will change. We went to the new mclaren ER with my 85 year old mother who had had several falls and who had a bleeding head laceration. The physician we saw was rude and short tempered. Staff was courteous but aloof. Only one tech seemed even remotely friendly. The doc saw my mom when she came in and again right before we left. His attitude was brusque and he did not communicate well at all. My mom felt that he was somehow angry with her for some reason. We were left alone in a hospital room for hours. When the doc finally came back to tell us that he scans were negative but he wanted to admit her my mom elected to leave against medical advice, and he seemed disgusted that she would make this choice and it showed in his attitude. They couldn't get rid of us fast enough once that decision was made. I would NOT return to this ER EVER AGAIN! read more

My brother had been admitted to the ER. I'm in Virginia and was trying to find out the status of my brother. I start talking to a nurse who then claims I'm yelling at her and she's going to hang up on me, and proceeded to tell me she can't tell me anything about my brother due to HIPPA, not even tell me if I should come home. Kind of funny because during CoVid when my brother was admitted for it they were more than willing to talk to me about his condition without getting into specifics. The nurse I talked to was unprofessional, lacked any kind of sympathy and had no compassion. I delivered my baby here and I had such a great experience. The staff went above and beyond to take care of the baby and I. They also gave us a bag of things for both baby and mom, offered photography of baby, and they sent a card with personal notes from the staff congratulating our family. The people that work there are very caring. They care about the patients and the patients family too. The critical care unit is great. The doctors and nurses are very attentive and informative. They always ask if we have any questions after they explain everything to you. They take their time and as much time as you need to understand everything that is going on. The Palliative care person is relatable and kind and extremely caring. They are a big help to us. The posted photos are not of this hospital. We do not live in the Lansing area and this was our first experience with McLaren Greater Lansing. We were there to visit a friend who was a patient there. There was adequate parking available and there were two clearly marked entrances for patients and visitors with the emergency entrance in another area. So we parked and walked in the visitor entrance. We had the room number we were looking for and immediately inside the entrance we saw an information desk so we stopped to get directions. They were friendly and helpful in getting us heading in the right direction. We stopped at the elevators and as we were waiting, a member of the medical staff told us where another set of elevators were that would get us there quicker. Once we arrived at the right floor, we started out by following the signs for the room number we were seeking when the room numbers seem to be out of sequence so we inquired with another staff member who help us get to the room. The room our friend was in was a normal sized room with normal amenities. While we were there, we observed the interaction they had with different doctors and nurses and they all appeared to be respectful, knowledgeable, and competent. The hallways and general facilities in the hospital appeared clean as you would expect. Purely as visitors we left with the impression that McLaren is a decent medical facility. read more

I got here at McLaren emergency at1 pm an I have a blood clot in my left leg. Very serious I would think it is now 11:41 pm and I'm still sitting in the emergency room. Know on come to you in the emergency room to see if your still breathing I realize all hospitals are short staff but a blood clot is life threatening I don't recommend this as I haven't even had a Doppler done or pain medication clot is showing in blood work Unbelievable Ended up getting released at 5:30 the next morning. With a superficial blood clot. I felt I should have had immediate attention as we all know blood clots are very dangerous. But not dangerous to McLaren Hospital. This was the worse experience and most uncaring and unprofessional group of medial "professionals" I have ever experienced. We were in the ER for 7 hours without a blood test, no fluids, 103 fever and no diagnosis. Then told us we were being moved to the lobby while they triaged the other 30 patients in the lobby. Again, without a diagnosis, fluids, pain relievers, nothing. 2 nurses on duty, one NP. They were way over their heads and lacking in the skill to even identify the obvious. We left and went to another ER, where we were diagnosed with a terrible kidney infection. NO ONE at McClaren even listened when we told them of back and abdomen pain. Even an EMT told us to leave and find another hospital, that is one of the worse in Lansing. Stay far away!! If I could leave a negative star I would read more

After my horrifying experience, I'm not sure I'll ever be back to McLaren. Of course, if they are the only ones that can help me, I'll eat my words. My appointment was for a mammogram. I was checked in, waited for a few minutes, and was called back fairly quickly for the diagnostic test. I was given a gown to change into and shown the door to go through to enter the testing area. The gown was worn and thin and much too SMALL! It didn't close in the front. The gown was not what I expected from a new facility. When I walked through the door to the testing area, the door on the other side of this small room was wide open, and people were walking by. My boobs were hanging out because of the size of the too small gown. The technician was nowhere to be found. She came back in the room after a few minutes, maybe 4-5, and said, "Oh, you're ready." I asked her why the door had been left open and told her that a door that led out into the hallway should have been shut. I was pissed and embarrassed! Next as the tech was centering me in front of the machine and taking my less-than-covered boob out of my gown, another person walked into the room from yet a different door, and said, "Oh, I'm sorry I didn't know anyone was in here." Then, instead of leaving, that person and the tech had a brief conversation that went a few minutes and the person that had interpretation my scan left. What the heck! Finally, i decided instead of letting this go, I had a conversation with the tech at the end of my appointment about needing bigger gowns, no interruptions, and no doors left open. She giggled, thinking it was funny. Then she realized I was serious. She told me there were larger gowns available, and next time, all I needed to do was ask for one. This is a mess. They took 84 minutes to register me with no one else in line. They couldn't find my doctors' requisitions for blood work. I waited 20 minutes for a blood draw ... again, no one else in the lab or in line. At least a dozen phone calls later, my doctors' had not received the blood test results. So a personal third visit finally captured it 4 weeks later. Then I called the ER to find out how long I might wait to have an ultrasound for a life-threatening problem. I was told that they don't provide wait times over the phone! However, if you are hungry ... and don't need medical care ... try the salad bar and egg rolls in the over-priced cafeteria. Went to the emergency room with two people in it. Registered and was led back a shortly after. Waited about hour to be seen which I expected. Told me I needed an X-ray. two hours later I received that. Again I was cool with that. Sent me back to the waiting room, and three hours later they sent me back to a room. Now my pain level is down from 8-9 to 5-6, because they gave me a shot and a pain pill 5 hours earlier. I sat in the back room for another hour, nothing. Breast Care Center I was told by the woman who took my back to the room, that I should not be getting a mammogram because of my age, I didn't matter that I had a doctor referral or that I have been working with Blue Cross in advance and that my doctor shouldn't have even sent me. My 3 generation of breast cancer family history does not matter. (yes, the lady literally said this). The tech told me she was going to find the radiologist to she wouldn't have to do the mammogram and left me there standing in the room topless. She was unable to locate them so her response was "guess I'll just do it". I haven never been more humiliated as this was my first mammogram. I felt 100% shamed by the woman. I am there for preventative measures and maybe to save my own life and she made me feel like I was wasting her time and that I didn't matter. I even called Blue Cross before I went and thought I had everyone order. I though I was doing the right thing. I received results and the radiologist actually recommended that I receive yearly MRI mammograms. I emailed feedback twice and took a survey explaining my situation and have not received any communication from them. I hope other people have not had this experience... I would hate for someone to stop getting annual mammograms and put themselves at risk because of the judgment. read more

Interpreter is one who cant hear doctor *SMH* They repeat say it's against their policy to get in person interpreter. I called it b---crap! Because, it's in ADA laws Deaf have right to ask in person interpreter or choice prefer interpreter. I even spend overnight for all week. I had hard time. there and Nurse screaming at me for not using voice chat when i press for call nurse. There's big writes "Patient is Deaf" on the door. they don't even bother read it. I'm already in processing with Lawyer. I'm going suing McLaren Hospital for their cruelty, their disrespect, their Discrimination. | I will NEVER recommend anyone going McLaren Hospital. As a parent and as an individual with an elderly parent, I am long familiar with long ER wait times. But the experience we have had twice this week in that ER is beyond reprehensible. I don't know what the exact source of the problem is - but there is a serious disconnect somewhere in that entity of the organization. They need a serious intervention with not only waiting times but communication with patients overall period. Literally every process is a separate process. We were literally brought to a room. The employee led us back and said "We're going to go right in here." And then dropped us off and didn't come in, she totally disappeared and we didn't see anyone for 45 minutes. Then Dr. Otto came in and let us know that we were being discharged. He was very through and appropriatly explained everything. But after he was done talking to us, he said "Give me a few minutes guys." He went to talk to someone else in another room and nobody came for 55 minutes after it was "Give me a few minutes guys." And this was to be discharged. We had at that point reached 1 in the morning. This went on for every process, triage, various tests.....your told " Very shortly".....or "Not much longer........and then they disappear for a long extended period of time. I think maybe Dr. Otto was maybe trying to run things like an assembly line - it doesn't work. Dr. Bantan was the Dr. on the other night we were there. He also reasonably explained things. He actually acknowleged and apologized for the waiting time (we were there at 2 and not out until 11). And he said it's not normally like this.....YES IT IS ! There is a serious problem with waiting time and communication with patients. I hope your staff is giving feedback or someone is looking at how bad this really is. Something needs to change. We will not be back. read more

At check in his blood pressure was through the roof. They basically stuck him in a room and forgot about him never rechecked blood pressure or anything. Didn't do any tests put some eye drops in his eyes made a snide comment that auto workers get stuff in their eyes all the time!! HE DOESN'T EVEN WORK IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY! After being discharged he threw up all over the parking lot. Never will come back here. So yeah they are a bunch of judgmental people who don't care about you just a pay check. While working in East Lansing, I started having severe chest pain. Suspecting a heart attack I did a Google search for the closest hospital which unfortunately was McLaren Greater Lansing. Yelp reviews showed that it only had 2.5 stars but as we all know, when you suspect a heart attack, every second counts so I crossed my fingers and drove myself there. Even though I was doubled over in pain as a drove, I figured it was faster to drive myself there than wait for an ambulance. When I pulled into the ER parking lot, I realized that I was not capable of walking the distance from the parking lot to the ER and I was concerned that attempting the walk would stress my heart even more. I wheeled in to one of the spaces designated for ambulances and walked the final 150' to the ER counter. Still doubled over and clutching my chest, none of the ER staff in the practically deserted ER waiting area gave me a send glance. There were 4 hospital staff members at the ER check in desk who all appeared to be helping check in the same patient who seemed to be in no pain. Scared by the thought that I might drop over dead any second, I announced, "I think I am having a heat attack" and " I am sorry but I could not make the walk from the ER lot to the entrance door so I had to park in an ambulance only space." From behind the counter, without even giving me a glance, one of the nurses spouted " well, your going to have to move your van and then you can have a seat in the waiting area. We will be with you as soon as we are done checking in this patient." I told them that I was not able to walk and that I needed to sit down. Rather than offer a wheel chair they once again told me to have a seat in the waiting area. When they were ready to talk to me, still with no sense of urgency, they shouted from across the desk "alright why don't you come over here. " Still with no offer of a wheel chair or assistance walking, I staggered to their desk. I barley made it there and asked to sit down. The closest chair was 20' away. They told me that they "do their check ins with the patient standing." I couldn't bear standing any longer and continued my stagger towards the lone chair still 20' away only to have another nurse snatch it away from me when I laid my hands on it. "THATS NOT HOW WE DO IT HERE" she shrieked. I was surrounded by a staff with no compassion or concern for my well being; more frightened with each passing second, I struggled to tow their line as I clung to the ER counter while they took my temperature and had me sign some paperwork before shipping me back to the waiting room. THE WAITING ROOM! Can you imagine? Still no offer of a wheel chair, a place to lie down or any assistance just "have a seat in the waiting room." A few minutes later the nurse who snatched the chair away from me barked for me to "common over hear," as she pointed me to a hospital bed in the corner of the ER check in area. She had a young girl with her who's behavior and comments led me to believe that she was some sort of community college intern. The no bedside manor nurse began to fumble around as she wired me for an EKG. To be continued.... it gets worse if you can imagine. read more
