When I received the call a much sooner surgery day was available in a few days instead of a few weeks, I had to take it. The nursing staff made my 7:30am check-in a smooth one, with lots of information shared with me. The waiting moments leading to Dr. Trivellas visiting before wheeling into surgery was calming. I remember the moment my oxygen mask was put on my face, and the next time I saw a room again I was in recovery. The nerve block was still doing its magic over the next 12 hours, reminding me that my days of waking in the night and morning with pain would be behind me soon. I want to thank Dr. Trivellas of course, but also: her scheduler, Yvonne who got me into the earlier surgery date; Reyna at the front desk to make sure my paperwork was in order; Hanna & Kristi, my Pre-Op nurses who prepped me for my surgery; Dr. Prunean who safely sent me to lala land; Elaine & Rich who were my OR Team; Mikki, my RNFA who let me know she'd be assisting Dr. Trivellas; and my Post-Op nurse Kristi who welcomed me back to reality in the recovery area. I had generally good experiences with doctors I had seen there in the past. He is more of a spine specialist, focusing on the neck and back. When I came in, I was having issues with both my neck and shoulders. After looking at my neck X-rays and MRIs, he noted that my shoulders were likely the bigger issue at the time. I could move my neck up and down without too much trouble, but my shoulders had difficulty rotating. Despite that, he was able to refer me to another DISC doctor, Dr. Shore. More importantly, I never felt like I was being rushed out the door, unlike many doctors who seem to just want to get patients in and out for a paycheck. In fact, toward the end of my appointment, he made sure I did not have any more questions before we parted. To me, that is a sign of a doctor who actually cares, which feels surprisingly rare given the number of doctors I have seen over the last several years. While he was great, I also have to give a special shoutout to his assistant, Joanna. She might be one of the best doctor's assistants I have seen. The assistants I have known generally get a good idea of what is going on and log your symptoms so the doctor can look at you more efficiently, but Joanna went above and beyond. She did more than a typical assistant would by checking the multiple issues I was having, including rotator tests, hand-grip strength, shoulder rotation, and various sensitive points. Similar to Dr. Melikian, I felt like she genuinely cared about what was going on and wanted to make sure I was receiving the right treatment. She was the first person to make me realize that I needed to focus more on my shoulder. Of course, she still told the doctor about everything just in case, but it says something when an assistant does more thorough checks than some actual MDs I have seen. It also says something that, even though I did not receive treatment from Dr. Melikian and he ultimately referred me elsewhere, he was one of the few doctors who was very assertive about making sure I scheduled a follow-up appointment. Even when I was in a rush to leave, his assistant reached out and emailed me to schedule an appointment, making sure I was okay with it. That is the sign of a doctor who really cares. Overall, in a weird way, I am kind of sad that my issues were not more related to my neck, since both Dr. Melikian and his assistant, Joanna, were great. Based on the reviews I have seen on Yelp and Google, many people seem to have had similarly positive experiences. If your issues are more related to your neck or back, I would consider getting an opinion from Dr. Melikian.

My daughter and I arrived at 8a.m, checked in and was asked to complete my online forms which I completed in 5 minutes. I let her know I was done and she said the other staff member would get me set up. We waited in the lobby for 50 minutes. During that time, every other patient who walked in after us was called back within five minutes. Eventually, I approached the front desk to ask when I'd be seen, only to be told they were waiting on me to complete the new patient forms. I had actually filled them out right when I arrived and notified the staff, but apparently, there was a lack of communication. Because of the delay, I had to leave without being seen--despite being in constant pain and having scheduled this appointment a month in advance. I also had my daughter's appointment scheduled right after mine, which we had to cancel as well. I requested my ID and insurance card back and left disappointed. Dr. Rose clearly has a very busy practice, but it's frustrating when poor administrative coordination prevents patients from receiving care--especially those who arrive on time and are in need. A suggestion for the front desk staff: If you're holding a patient's ID and insurance card, and they're expected to complete online forms, check in with them after a few minutes. A quick confirmation could avoid unnecessary delays like this one. It was very disheartening to watch every other patient be seen while I sat there unknowingly overlooked. I took time off work. As a medical professional of 28 years, I understand the difference in personality and opinions that doctors can have. Dr Eng was positively awful. He was cocky, arrogant and condescending. He made little eye contact, was defensive and his bedside manner was non existent. His unprofessionalism in critiquing his colleague was beyond off putting. He lacked compassion and the ability to listen and understand. I fully understand that doctors have different personalities, opinions and styles, but I am so unsettled by him. It was a waste of the copay. I am just shocked that Hoag would employ a person of this demeanor . This is a time where I wished AI would have scribed the visit. I would love for a colleague to review. He appears very inexperienced and green in medicine. It will take a lot to make him a successful physician. UPDATE( 2 weeks later)...no follow up from office manager when requested. I guess this is just standard practice there. I initially decided to see Dr. Lauchlan Chambers because of the positive Yelp reviews. I was…read morediagnosed with a minor ACL tear and a meniscus tear, and Dr. Chambers recommended ACL reconstruction using an allograft along with meniscus surgery. I asked specifically about the meniscus procedure and was told that approximately 30% of my meniscus would be trimmed or removed. I asked about stitching it and he said that it is not possible. As a 36-year-old, I was concerned about the long-term implications of removing a significant portion of my meniscus, particularly the potential increased risk of developing arthritis over time. I also did additional research on ACL graft options and learned that, depending on the patient and circumstances, an allograft may have a higher re-tear rate than an autograft, particularly in younger and more active patients. Rather than proceeding immediately, I decided to get additional opinions and do more research. I am very glad that I did. I ultimately found another orthopedic surgeon who was able to repair (stitch) my meniscus rather than remove part of it, preserving 100% of my meniscus, while also addressing my ACL injury. When Dr Chambers made it clear that stitching wasn't an option. My experience taught me how important it is to thoroughly research your injury and treatment options and, especially for significant orthopedic surgery, get a second or even third opinion before making a decision. I would strongly encourage anyone with a meniscus tear to specifically ask whether meniscus repair is possible in their individual case and to consult an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in meniscus preservation and repair. One thing that helped me during my research was simply searching Google for "orthopedist who will stitch meniscus". That search helped me find surgeons who specifically focus on meniscus repair and preservation, rather than immediately removing damaged tissue. I am grateful that I took the time to investigate my options before undergoing surgery. Had I not done so, I may have ended up with a procedure that I would have regretted in the long term. I also had a separate billing issue with the office. After their office submitted the insurance claim, I discovered that I had been overcharged. I contacted them about the discrepancy, and they acknowledged the issue and said they would refund the difference. It's been a month, and I still haven't received my refund despite calling the office multiple times. I am sharing this review because I hope it encourages other patients to ask questions, research their options, and seek additional opinions before proceeding with surgery. If even one person benefits from taking that extra step, then sharing my experience will have been worthwhile.
