Subsequently I filed a claim with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission against its Guaranty Fund. The fund was set up to compensate homeowners who hire licensed contractors who either fail to complete a job or do it in an "unworkmanlike" manner. After a very long drawn out process, the MHIC opined that the multitude of gaps "were not significant enough to render the installation unworkmanlike." Prefinished hardwood flooring is an interlocking tongue-and-groove system and it is certainly not good workmanship to install the boards with clearly visible separations. This contractor left more than 50 open joints between the boards, significant gaps between boards and stair rails and installed steps with stair noses that were not level and that creaked shortly after installation. This was certainly an unworkmanlike installation. (I guess that tells you what a license from the MHIC is worth.) What matters, however, is not my opinion or the MHIC's but whether you would be pleased if this contractor did such fine work in your home. This contractor has cost me time, money and a lot of aggravation with his threats of legal action, lies and refusal to accept responsibility. He continues to lie about conditions in my home alleging that I do not operate my HVAC leading to wildly fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels, causing the multitude of gaps. Don't be fooled. He is just lying to shift blame for the shoddy work of his subcontractor to me, the homeowner. BTW he's also lying about offering to replace the flooring at cost. P.P.S. As I have stated before the "official unbiased inspection report" Eric is referring to falsely stated there were no separations visible in the floor either from a stand up position or under 10x magnification and thus, concludes there were no installation problems. So I guess those are all imaginary gaps Eric's subcontractor filled in with wood putty. The MHIC a scam?? I would not put it that way but certainly they did not have much sympathy for me as a homeowner harmed by a licensed contractor. They seemed much more concerned about protecting the Guaranty fund from claims, even legitimate ones. Sometimes the system does not deliver justice. In any case, a license from the MHIC is clearly not a guarantee against shoddy workmanship.

LBF sent a supervisor to check up and I got an update at the end of day one of two. The two Juans were professional, hard working and respectful of furniture they had to move. Billing is also diligent which I appreciate. I recommend LBF without hesitation. The less stellar reviews are from some time ago - feel free to speak to LBF about them. I was apprehensive at first but once they explained how things can work on yelp and that they learn as they strive to improve their services, I went ahead with them and have no regrets.

An estimator came out to assess the floors and I explained my expectations regarding the color of the stain I would like for my floors. I was recommended to pay the additional $200 to receive water based sealant. The day the floors were sanded I called LB and stated that I had concerns with the color of the floors after the first coat was applied. The estimator came back to my house and assured me that once the sealant was put on the floors would look better. On a positive note, the sanding job removed a good bit of scratches, however, after the last sealant coat was applied there was some bubbling. I was expecting a rich brown color and unfortunately, the color of the floors look inconsistent and not at all like I was expecting. I was also very surprised that minwax stain color was used. After doing online research, minwax is primarily used for diy projects. Duraseal is what professional flooring companies use and after looking at the LB fb page I saw that they also use Duraseal on some of their projects. Duraseal is considered the standard by professional flooring companies and according to the research, it absorbs more deeply and eveny into the wood resulting in a richer color. The estimator Zach never in his estimate said that minwax would be used. LB contract stated that a high quality stain would be applied. Duraseal was never offered to me as an option. I called LB to let them know of my concerns. I received a voicemail from Zach saying that they have used minwax for many years with no problems. I left a voicemail with Zach to follow up with me and never received a call back.

Now, our insurance company had hired a company to repair our hardwood kitchen floors, but after ripping the floor apart, and having us wait for weeks without any progress being made in repairing the floor and other repairs that were needed to be made as a result of the water damage, we contacted our insurance company, and asked if we could get our own contractors. After getting their approval, we contacted Marco of BR Flooring, and the rest is history! Our hardwood floors look superb! The contractors the insurance company had hired had made a true mess in our kitchen, and said they wanted to replace the entire hardwood floor throughout our first level; however, Marco and his team repaired the damaged area, sanded the floors, stained the floors, applied three coats of polyurethane, and finished the floor with a sealant! The floor looks better than it has ever looked before! We can't give Marco and his team enough credit for the superb job they did! We highly recommend BR Flooring--they are GREAT! Another thing, we had searched and searched for an individual/a company to replace our kitchen cabinet that was damaged as a result of the water damage, but we kept running into a brick wall. We spoke with at least five to six people who we thought could help, but time after time we ended up in the same situation. We only needed one cabinet, but individuals wanted to replace all of our kitchen cabinets. One company even suggested that we remodel the entire kitchen, even though the entire kitchen didn't need remodeling. Again, Marco and his team helped us! Marco and his team were able to get our custom-made cabinet, install it, install our granite countertop, and get everything in our kitchen back to its normal state. But everything went great with Floors Etc. I got an estimate, met them at their showroom, picked my flooring and took a sample home, set up a date for install, and they showed up on time! They got the work done in a timely manner and it looks great. They were out of stock of the stair floor nosings, but got them and installed then a couple days later so no big deal. I am very happy with my choice.

I asked about underlayment and moisture barrier and Mike said they could lay tar paper. Jesse came to home he did measurements, we walked the floor, and I stated the direction(s) I would like the floor laid. Jesse subsequently sent me an estimate to sign and return so work could start. I needed more time for the money and a few months later we reconnected with modifications to the original estimate eliminating the moldings. All was fine so far. He then seemed concerned and wanted his installer to come out. The installer came out, Jesse was late, and the installer stated that plywood would need to be laid over my current hardwood floors before he would install and that the floor could not be installed in the direction(s) I previously outlined. Jesse finally arrived and I heard him, and the installer talk outside then they came inside, once again the installer doubled down. I clearly stated that I thought upselling was being done on the 11th hour. Jesse said "we don't have any of your money". He then said he did not hear anything about the tar paper. He was leaving and said he would discuss with Mike and get back with me. After a few days, I sent Jesse a text, no answer - the same for the next 5 days. It appears I have been ghosted by this company that obviously made a mistake and is not interested in working it out or my business. BEWARE OF BEING GHOSTED AND UPSELLING.

We had this all done at a really busy time for us (in hindsight, this was the mistake on our part), as we all know that these days, if you want good-quality work with installs/contractors, you have to micromanage and helicopter it, it seems. We took his word for it on a couple of things and shouldn't have. When he came to measure, I pointed to a spot where there is a dip in our basement, he said they would repair it upon installation. I was at work when the carpet was installed, and when I realized a couple of weeks later that the dip was still there, he tried to gaslight me - saying they would never agree to repair something like that, as it is not something they do since it would be concrete work, to repair a basement foundation issue. He said someone would come check it out, but they never did. It's been 2-3 months now. I had also asked him, while he was at our house, how much would need to be moved/put away. He said, "you don't have to worry about anything but just the little things and anything breakable". My husband questioned this the night before installation, as he noticed the contract stated that most things needed to be cleared, but I told him not to worry about it because Jonathan said we didn't need to. The crew tried to charge us extra fees for having to move stuff or said they would come back another day after we took care of it, but they then wanted to charge us $200-300 for not getting to do the job that day. We fought back on this, so we ultimately did not pay this fee. Jonathan was very condescending throughout this whole experience, playing dumb and somehow forgetting what he said to me. Don't trust what he says and just read the fine print.

From the very beginning , I should have been made aware of certain things when I picked out my LVF. I also got carpet in one n my rooms. Everything was wrong. The order, the installers, the carpet. All of it was done in a rush. The floors have jagged edges. The people that came by to look at the flooring which was done wrong said it makes it look more authentic. The carpet couldn't be laid properly in one area, because the base board to secure the flooring was glued down, to secure the floor, and as a divider. Therefore they couldn't get the carpet secure, under the base board divider. How do u hold down the carpet when the baseboard was glued down? Just a terrible experience from beginning to end. I wouldn't recommend Bodes Flooring to anyone. Just a bad nightmare! I spent quite a bit of money doing the whole house, and I was just another number. So as I said earlier, there are too many flooring companies, and I would not recommend or pick Bodes.

I wanted everything to be sustainable and non toxic, particularly with the engineered hardwoods, which are manufactured and I wanted them thick enough for refinishing down the road. Eddie did a lot of searching for us and really found the best option out there for us and they looked gorgeous and exactly what we wanted. He and the owner even called me about the installation for the basement floors and said they would have to use tiny drops of glue at the joints but they had found a non toxic glue to use and sent me the material safety data sheet. The price was more than reasonable, especially considering they had to pull out about an acre of wall to wall carpeting! The work was done very well and I know if I have any issues, they will correct them. Great company!

We recently purchased a house, and the granite countertops needed some work in our kitchen. We…read morecontacted a few places to get repair quotes for a few chips, cracks, a wide/warped seam, and we also wanted to get the counter re-sealed. Chris, the owner, was very responsive and friendly. His quote was slightly lower but quite similar to the other companies who responded, and we decided to go with him based on the price, his responsiveness, and the reviews on here (particularly the previous review with the seam repair, as the "before" seam looked exactly like ours!). Scheduling was straightforward and we were able to get our ideal day/time the following week. Two guys arrived on time and they got to work right away to fix all of the issues. They were here for quite awhile, and worked really hard to get everything looking great. The seam is now closed up and is MUCH less obvious. The two stone pieces were also uneven, with one jutting out past the other, and they completely fixed it- you would never know! The cracks and chips are all sealed and barely visible, and we haven't had any issues with the counters since their visit. Chris sent us a link before our visit so that we could pay by credit card at the end of the visit (otherwise we could have paid by cash or check). Overall, two thumbs up and we will definitely be calling them in the future if we have any issues with our counters!
