We really enjoyed our stay here. It's an old building and it shows in some hidden corners, but it's beautifully decorated, cozy, and clean. We were greeted in the most friendly way imaginable, given a tour of the property, and walked to our spacious room. There was a heater in the bathroom ceiling! The breakfast was plentiful with one hot item and various fruits and bread, yogurt, coffee and juice. The owner greeted me by name every time he saw me. It may not be the fanciest spot I've ever seen, but it's truly operated with love and I felt welcome and at home. The beds were amazing! One thing I'll recommend, which wasn't even an issue with me since I started doing this long ago.. if you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs. You can faintly hear noise outside or in adjoining rooms, so if you're a super light sleeper like me, you'll appreciate having them. It wasn't loud or rowdy, I'm just awakened by a change in temperature. read more

I can't even convey in words how special our experience was at McKinley Edwards Inn! My wife and I traveled to Bryson City with plans to stay at an AirBnB cabin in the mountains. The cabin wasn't ready at all, and we literally could never stay there based on what we saw. Not knowing what to do next, we ate dinner on our 30th anniversary in our car from an Arby's paper bag! My wife found this inn online, and we made the short drive. At 9:30 John-Marc opened the door before I had the chance to knock! We were quickly impressed, and committed to two nights. We were basically the only guests there (on the backside of the COVID lockdown). The room was incredibly comfortable, and we didn't want for anything at all during our stay. We were served an amazing breakfast each day, and given some great suggestions on things to do and places to visit in and near Bryson City. The night after our anniversary, we were permitted to use the grill and the kitchen to prepare a proper anniversary steak dinner and eat it in the inn's dining room! At that point we asked for a third night, which was easily done. In short, there is nothing reasonable that John-Marc and Janice won't do for their guests, and we've never met people who care as much about what they do as these innkeepers! As an added bonus, we enjoyed two evenings spending time getting to know them, and they are incredibly kind and friendly! We've got new friends for life! Bryson City is a super nice mountain town, and the nearby Deep Creek hiking trails are beautiful. Rafting is available for kids and adults, and the town has some neat shops. Bryson City Wine Market will set you up nicely for wine and cheese, and you will not find better barbecue than Haywood Smokehouse in nearby Dillsboro! Enough about the town! The biggest point I make with this review is this: McKinley Edwards Inn could be in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and I'd walk over broken glass in the middle of July to enjoy a stay at this inn! You won't have to because it's in beautiful Bryson City, but I'm saying that you'll have an amazing time! Thanks so much for the unforgettable stay, and for literally saving our anniversary getaway! My wife and I stayed here overnight during a recent trip through the Carolinas. Beautiful inn with very nice landscaping and walking gardens. Very romantic-type B&B for couples. The hosts were a very friendly couple who have training as chefs. They offered a very nice continental breakfast featuring items prepared fresh in the kitchen (they plan to offer dinner service in the future). Our room was very spacious and featured a lot of antique furniture. Large jacuzzi soaking bath. Would be a very nice place to stay with a significant other for a few days. read more

Lovely country Inn! The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. We were in Bryson City for the Polar Express, the inn offered wonderful activities for the kids. Upon checking in it would have been nice if they offered coffee, cider or hot chocolate , even water...that would have given it a more "County Inn" feel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was quite a chore to get into( very high up) a step stool would have been helpful. There was no where to get bottled water or anything to drink!! But we would go back, we would be better prepared next time with our own waters, juices, coffee!! The continental breakfast was very simple. All carbs not much to choose from. Hubby and I returned from Bryson City this weekend for a fall foliage train trip, and while the trip overall was great, the McKinley Edwards Inn wasn't a great option for us. Let me preface by sharing that for our date, this was the only King bed option available in Bryson City, so it's not like I had a ton of choices. This is a small town with only a handful of inns, etc. - so you may find yourself in a similar situation. The inn is located on top of a hill, so if you are in the public rooms, the view can be quite nice. Conversely, the inn is located on top of a hill right on a blind curve, so getting in and out can be tricky, and their parking options, driveways, etc. are all hilly and uneven. I mention uneven because much of the grounds have a stone pathway/walkway that if you are not very sure footed and the lighting at night is not great, it would be very easy to trip and fall. From the parking area to the area where our room was there are five stone steps which are not all equal distances in rise, and there's no handrail. I admit I'm 50, have some depth perception issues, and can trip and fall pretty easily... but if your party includes a true senior citizen... you best opt elsewhere. If you have someone in a wheelchair, there's no way you could navigate here. Check in was casual and simple, and innkeeper Rosemary showed us where the contintental breakfast would be and took us to our rooms. So when I say continental breakfast... I mean they went to Sam's Club and bought muffins, honey buns, trail mix bars, and some fruit. Nothing hot other than the coffee and no protein other than a Nature Valley bar labeled as such. In other words, you'll be hitting McDonald's before your day starts if you're like us. Our room was a King room they called Catalina I think, the innkeeper said it used to be called the Honeymoon Suite. It was clean enough, and spacious enough, but again, just not for us. The bed is up very high going for an antique look... so high I could barely climb in. Back to if someone in your party has mobility issues... you again can't stay here. The room had a love seat in front of a too small for the space TV, and a refrigerator which ran all night quite loudly on one side and a Kuerig set up on the other. The bath had a whirlpool tub, but I didn't pay attention to notice the shower was handheld from the tub, so showering the next morning was interesting. If you're wanting a whirlpool bath you'll be fine, other than fair warning... the walls are thin and our neighbors began filling up their tubs at 5 AM and we heard every other tub after that until 7 when we got up. Also in the bathroom area, they only provide two towels, and they are not overly large, plush towels. They are the standard nothing special Wal Mart size and variety. I know I could have probably called and asked for more, but really? You never notice that until you are in the shower. The toilet is in a separate water closet that is one of those where when you turn on the light, the fan automatically comes on. Not a big deal to me, but hubby hates that. The sink is a standard pedestal with a glass shelf above, so there's not much room for toiletries, and the lighting isn't very good, either. I knew this place would be independent and not up to modern standards, so I wasn't expecting Hilton or Four Seasons, I just did expect more from breakfast and expected to be able to walk to and from our car without fearing injury. I gave them two stars because that caption is "I've experienced better." I just couldn't see three stars which translates to "A-OK" when, for me at least, it clearly wasn't. read more

Our room was a generic hotel room. Nothing special about it considering it was a bed and breakfast and I just expect something special. The bed was very comfortable so got a great night's sleep. Breakfast was continental. All they served was prepackaged muffins and granola. In my opinion there could have been more options like bagels or cereal. We had to go out to breakfast each morning. The lady at the desk is nice but not super friendly. Seems like I was bothering her if I had any questions. Probably would try another inn next time we are in town. read more

We stayed two nights and had two rooms..... we enjoyed everything about this place .... the husband/ wife live on the premises and couldn't be any nicer ..... rooms were clean and nice ..... we recommend this place in the mountains..... of course, we had a small Boston terrier with us and the place is dad friendly ...... oh, there was another couple there and, boy, were they sour , unhappy humans .... I doubt that they would be happy anyplace on vacation .... we tried to say hello to them but they clammed up..... we also took the Great Smokey Mountains train ride .... 4 hours and the dinner option with first class..we liked that also ....oh, ate at a little barbecue place right outside of Brysom and loved that too ....ask the people there the name of the restaurant...... will definitely go here again .....
