On a recent trip to Maggie Valley when my reservation at another local motel turned out to be for the wrong night I was in a really tight spot. It was the height of the Fall Foliage season, there was a huge craft show in the valley and rooms were booking up fast. I was like a rabbit desperately searching for a hole knowing the fox was close on my heals. Two tries for rooms and two strike outs were already past when I pulled in to the Valley Inn parking lot. My first question was of course, "did they have any rooms available?" Yes, thank God they did. My next question which was almost as important was, "how much are they?' They turned out to be a little more then what I was hoping to pay but still very very reasonable. I was saved I had a room for the night, and the fellow at the front desk was as friendly as he could be and very patient with this little girl who was in a near state of panic by this point in the afternoon.
The Inn itself is quite nice without being overly fancy. The room we got was small but cozy with a single queen bed, TV, fridge, coffee maker, & microwave. Wifi was available too although a bit spotty. We had a window unit combo heat pump, AC which warmed the room very quickly and efficiently. The Inn looks like a traditional series of red barns with long porches attached to the side filled with rocking chairs. Out back is beautiful Soco Creek, with a Gazebo, several swings and a fire pit. After we came back from dinner my girl friend and I sat by the fire for an hour or so warming ourselves and chatting. In the morning we sat on the porch when we woke up drinking coffee and enjoying the wonders of the mountains in Fall.
All in all, it was a thoroughly pleasant and relaxing stay at the Valley Inn and I will be sure to recommend them whenever anybody wants to visit the Great Smokies in North Carolina. read more
