Though the area that McKiernan is in is a tad sketchy, the restaurant was extremely clean with great service and food! I found the menu to be a bit small, but I enjoyed the food that I had and it wasn't a bad price. I think the vibe they have as a restaurant is really unique as it seems like the building used to be a factory. Lots of barrels around and wooden poles, chairs, and tables giving the place an overall mildly rustic feel. Bonus points for plaid, reusable napkins that added to the charm. read more

Our favorite meal in Montreal! It's the sister restaurant to Joe Beef (which we also went to), but the vibe is completely different. The inside is so spacious with a loft feel. There are huge windows on one side letting in a lot of light. It seems like a great place to have a large group dinner or event there. We ordered the deviled brussel sprouts, bomba schnitzel, and chicken alexandre for lunch. We also ended up getting a cookie and donut from their pastry counter afterwards. It was a ton of food, but I wish I had room to try more things. The brussel sprouts were some of the best brussels I've ever had. There was so much flavor packed in there. I could have done without the blue cheese, but I still loved it. I usually wouldn't order rotisserie chicken at a restaurant, but this was cooked perfectly. It was so juicy and tender. The schnitzel was amazing too. Overall, it just really felt like simple food and ingredients done well. I was very impressed. I would love to go back here again. We dined here on Saturday November 16th for the first time. I heard about this place through social media - I loved the decor and spacious loft style. The menu has lots of comforting food options and baked goods which really drew me in. We made a last minute reservation for 2 people. The place seems to always be packed so I would not walk in for dinner unless you plan on eating before 5PM. There are many groups and parties when we arrived. We were seated at the bar which was cool since we had a view of the kitchen and easy access to staff so the service was exceptional. There was always someone refilling our glasses and cleaning away plates. We got the parker house rolls of bread with their garlic herb butter ($8)- this was warm, soft, delicious. Just wanted more of that butter - they should consider having a little extra cup for dipping. I got the schnitzel ($20) and my partner got the honey glazed ribs ($31).. The flavors and portions were adequate for main meals - these types of foods can get filling, however none of the main dishes come with sides so we opted for fries, an extra charge of $7. The food was very tasty, but the fries were on the dry/overly crispy side as these are thinly cut. We also got some deserts to go, tried two of their doughnuts and the brownie. These were all excellent. I really like the variety of baked goods and would consider coming for brunch to satisfy my sweet tooth with other options. In terms of vibe, service, food quality and flavor this was all great - there is even free parking which is convenient for this area. After 30+ years working in the hospitality industry, I couldn't find anything I wasn't satisfied with on my first visit. My grown kids love this place too. The food is fabulous, and I can definitely feel the Joe Beef + Liverpool House influence here. Lots of parking, great bathrooms, and the bill you ask: I was completely in shock that 3 of us, sharing 5 plates + 1 glass of Joe Beef wine - 85$. Me = Floored. Great Saturday lunch with the family just now. We were the first ones there at 11 am, but the restaurant filled up by 12. Very family friendly and seems like a popular destination for families with young children (at almost every table) and there are plenty of high chairs to go around. Their dishes are made for sharing and they also have daily specials. We opted for 3 specials: corn chowder poutine, salmon Benedict and a honey ricotta pistachio mortadella toast. We also ordered the country apple salad, beef tartare, roasted carrots with ricotta and hazelnuts and also the rigatoni with spicy vodka rose sauce. Everything was good. I've never seen my 2 year old eat so much. From the rigatoni to the apple salad, she munched away. We realized now that she likes endives with vinaigrette. The sister restaurant to Joe Beef is good but didn't bring anything new to the table. First let's start with the location. The entrance to the restaurant is through stairs. We needed the elevator so we had to walk around the building, then wait for someone to open the door, and then had to walk quite a bit again to get to the restaurant. It wasn't an issue but the journey felt long. Inside is spacious and pretty. Service is also great. I didn't get a chance to take pictures. Started with the sandwich which was perfect and buttery. Then came the Brussels sprouts. It was spicy and salty. I liked that it was a bit charred. Went great with the spicy rigatoni. The rigatoni is saucy but not overdone. Next we got the rotisserie chicken. It was soft and was cooked in a delicious sauce. We also got the schnitzel and a hash brown breakfast sandwich. These two items were underwhelming. I had high hopes for the schnitzel but the peppers that were added to this did not make sense. It made the meat taste bitter. Not sure if we got a bad batch. Drinks were really great, minus the Bloody Caesar. It was watered down and had no flavor. I was expecting more from this place because of its relation to Joe Beef. The wide, open space gives McKiernan an airy feel, which was nice on a day when it was too hot to be outdoors. The roast chicken was tender and came with a smooth, creamy gravy. Unfortunately, the brussel sprouts dish was way too salty to be enjoyable, as was the eggplant parmesan (the daily special). The bomba schnitzel, spareribs, and country salad were good, but not wow. We ordered fingerling potatoes, but cancelled them because we had almost finished the meal and they hadn't arrived--an oversight, no doubt, but still disappointing, as they would have been a nice complement to the roast chicken. We stopped here on our way home. This restaurant or luncheonette is on the second floor and when you enter you notice the huge hall that occupies it. There is a generous amount of space between the tables and the best part is the amount of sunlight that the huge windows allow inside. I really liked the minimal decor with hanging plants and lights going across the hall. The staff are extremely friendly. None of us were fluent French speakers but our servers were extremely empathetic to explain the menu to us in English. We ordered the House Parker Rolls, Rigatoni rosée épicée à la vodka and the Creste di gallo au pesto di rapini, saucisse italienne. We visited McKiernan twice during our recent 2.5 days Montreal trip. First of all, you can get 2-hour free parking and remember to get your parking pass stamped at the counter. The Luncheonette locates on second floor of the building without elevator. The venue is beautifully decorated with taste. One side of the wall are big windows with lots of natural light. It is perfect spot to relax and enjoy your morning/afternoon. There is a ping pong table where you can play a game with friend . There is a camera which you can take picture with nice background; they will send you an electronic version if you provide your email. First day we came for breakfast. Breakfast service starts from 8am. They serve coffee, espresso drinks, donuts, pastries and some savoury flatbread/pizza. You will order from the counter. We had espresso, filter coffee, donut, and daily special tart. We enjoyed the coffee very much. And only cost $2.5 which is a steal. The pastries were delicious with nice buttery aroma, but I wish they could warm them up before serving. Second day we came for lunch. Lunch starts from 11am and they offer table service. We ordered their famous rotisserie chicken, muffuletta, beef tartare. Rotisserie was nicely done in anchovy bagne cauda sauce, endive salad on top. The meat was very moist and tasty in the sauce. Muffuletta were made with house made ham and salami. Love the salami and ham which were not overly salted. The bread was nice as well. Once again, I wish the bread was warm up a bit. Beef tartare and crispy potato were in Romesco sauce and covered in parmesan cheese. I love the beef tartare with the sauce. However, the crispy potato was bit dry. It may be better if it serves with bread. I saw the dinner version comes with bread. Overall, I am very happy with McKiernan and wish to go back to try other dishes. BEAUTIFUL space, beautiful building. I absolutely love how this building is all a bunch of local businesses that are attached to this restaurant. Few key points to retain: 1. They are only open from Monday to Friday. 2. Dinner is only served on Thursday and Friday. 3. Parking is free if you eat there. 4. I've tried both lunch and dinner menu. Please keep in mind that the menu changes consistently. Follow them on social media to check out their daily/weekly special dishes. I PERSONALLY prefer their lunch menu. Their muffuletta sandwich, buffalo roasted carrots (seasonal I believe) and any pasta dish that has protein. Sorry, I can't just do pasta with sauce only. That's just a personal preference. 5. Again, this is just a personal opinion and maybe because I definitely prefer more savoury and bold food but I think the chicken is whatever. Don't hate me. This place is super cute and I would 100% recommend it. Why? My group came and tried seven dishes and I only wasn't a fan of one. And that was just because it had an ingredient I didn't expect that I don't like. Their Brussels sprouts dish was one of the best I have ever had, they have amazing mussels and I loved their schnitzel (the portion of which is truly XL). They also have good beef tartare and a rabbit cacciatore dish. There creste di gallo rapini pesto was the dish i wasn't a fan of, but if you like rapini, definitely try it! Great place to go and share food - but don't let the waitresses fool you, the appetizers are a decent portion! We had a wonderful lunch at Mckiernan yesterday! We ordered the demo size BBQ chicken and rib combo, Parker house buns and two donuts. The chicken rib combo comes with coleslaw, fries and homemade gravy and mayo. Their ribs might be my favorite in MTL now! The combo was absolutely delicious, and served both of us with leftovers! I'd say that the fill size probably serves 4-6 people easily. Even though the combo comes with Parker buns, we ordered extra because they are incredibly delicious. Make sure to save room for dessert. The donuts are incredible. They are fresh and really generously filled. Yesterdays filling was blueberry and cream and I wish I could have ordered a dozen. They are worth the $3.50 each. I felt very comfortable eating on their terrasse. They have 3 picnic tables setup outside. We called ahead for takeout, our order was ready when we arrived 20 min later. The staff gave us some glasses and a water bottle and we were allowed to sit on their picnic tables. It was quiet and very enjoyable. We needed up ordering a couple of coffees at the end and enjoyed them on their terrasse . Their dining room is also very spacious, there was ventilation and AC. Second time, I present myself at this humongous and beautiful restaurant. Last time, I had a early morning breakfast with coffee and pastries. This time, we come for lunch. The place is so beautiful and I kept looking around, and later I remember I have to order my food. The service is impeccable. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and prompt. The food were exceptionally delicious. I had a Moscow Mule for drink, followed by an amazing, smooth, flavorful tomato soup with grated Parmesan cheese. And as for my main dish I had this mind blowing roasted squash burger with tartar sauce. My friends devoured their equally delicious dishes, which were veal tartare with sourdough bread and butter and beef stew with a scone. The prices was affordable. 100% recommended! read more

Little gem tucked away in a random industrial corner or the canal. We drove since it is advertised there is free 2 hour parking. Once we got there, we were told the parking guy had disappeared since March so there was no limit on our parking time. The space inside is quiet large and I imagine they are able to fit a lot of tables. Since they reopened after the covid lockdown, there is A LOT of space between tables, more than I've seen at any restaurant. The menu is also available via QR code you can scan through your phone's camera which was pretty neat. Everything on the menu looked so good. It was a tough choice but we ended up ordered the white and red sangria, the corn, the quarter muffuletta and the chicken. It was a lot of food and I ended up taking some home but everything was absolutely amazing. I preferred the red sangria over the white one. My favourite was the muffuletta sandwich. Don't let the size of it fool you, you could have a quarter on your own for dinner and be full! The coleslaw that came with the chicken was also really good (mix of vinegar and creamy), what a genius idea. The gravy was also really good, it had a little bit of a bite, not sure if it was peppery or spicy? I wouldn't call this restaurant cheap but definitely good value. As someone who works way out in the east end I was frustrated that my schedule didn't mesh with that of McKiernan Luncheonette, a new lunch counter from the same team that owns Joe Beef. Fortunately they started opening for dinner two nights a week so I would be able to make the trip here. The location is a little odd as it is in a very industrial part of St Henri but there is plenty of parking around. The restaurant is in a factory and resembles a camp dining hall in a way with long communal tables and the outdoorsy decor. They have canoes lining the restaurant. There also happens to be a ping pong table that you can use should you be in the mood to move while you are there. What I really liked though were the tall windows which let lots of natural light into the restaurant. In an attempt to sample as much of the menu as possible we ordered a variety of dishes and shared them. Some were excellent while some missed the mark a bit. My personal favourites were the lamb brochette and the cacio e pepe fries. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had been well seasoned. On the other hand the shrimp toast was just okay. We applied the same strategy of ordering multiple dishes and sharing them for dessert. I really enjoyed the rhubarb Eton mess which was really flavourful. I just wasn't a fan of the hazelnut crepe cake though. It was too dense for my liking and a little lacklustre in terms of taste. I was so glad that the opportunity to visit McKiernan's presented itself because it was a wonderful meal. This is definitely one of those places that I would make an effort to return to and if you find yourself in St-Henri you should make the trip. read more

It really took me two visits to appreciate the new addition to the Joe Beef family. The first time I drove right by this location, thinking they were housing loft complexes, especially with the neighboring daycare center! I was wrong. I walked up to a beautiful sunlit rustic open space known as McKiernans. Canoes, firefly lights, and abstract paintings dec out this huge space with many communal tables. Both times I came here, I attended the evening service with no reservations (given we were a party of 2 or 3 people) around 6 pm. We were seated quickly, given we had to leave by 8 pm. The staff here know their menu, I challenge you to question them and you will be impressed. Items on the menu are meant to be shared, small plates. Particular dishes that I enjoyed was the lamb brochette served on roasted peppers, the albacore tuna, the teleggio cheese dish, pesto bread, the snow crab legs. Dessert is not my strongpoint but I loved the variety of items on the menu. The olive oil cake was my favorite. I will be coming back here because if its open space, a one of a kind. read more

After failing to secure reservations at their sister restaurants, my friends and I decided to go to McKiernan. We booked a table in advance and the place was packed on a busy Sunday evening. The ambiance here is amazing. Dim lighting with high ceiling lightbulbs. We ordered the bitter Salade, Cauliflower Stracciatella, Salade des iles, oyster rockefellers, parker house buns, Chicken schnitzel, rigatoni a la Romanoff, croquette de poulet, heirloom & burrata, and the bonnes frite. Wow for everything we ordered it was perfect for 6 people. The salads, oyster and the rigatoni were definitely the highlights of our meal. The prices here are definitely reasonable. The food here is as authentic French-Canadian a meal can get. Strong flavors with fresh ingredients that can't be beat. Highly recommend McKiernan if you want an intimate date night spot. It's probably for my own good that this place is so inconveniently located. If McKiernan was easily accessible, I'd be here daily. I've been following the restaurant on Instagram since it re-opened and couldn't wait to give it a try! Let me tell you, it lived up to the hype and met my expectation. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Crumpet. The portion looks small, but don't be fooled it was surprisingly filling. This dish seamlessly incorporated a variety of textures and flavours. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wouldn't change a thing. Oh, and major points for the Ginger Kombucha on tap! On my way out, I grabbed a creme-filled donut and dark chocolate chip cookie for later. I was really excited to try this restaurant because I love Maison Publique and Joe Beef. So I went on Friday night and although it was good, I am sad to say that it did not live up to my expectations. First of all the décor is cool. They hung a canoe on the ceiling and have another one up against the wall. I like the hanging lights and the fact that they have a ping pong table. There were people of all ages there from older to even children. The tables are communal but we were lucky enough that we did not have to share the table with anyone else. I started with a Bloody Caesar cocktail and my boyfriend had a glass of red wine both which were very good! We had the ravioli special with foie gras which was not on the menu. The waiter highly recommended it. However some of the raviolis were a bit undercooked for our liking. The broth was nice though. We wanted to get the lamb for two but apparently its a big dish and we were not very hungry. We then had the mushroom toast and the BBQ ranch carrots. The mushroom toast was good but nothing special. The carrots were good as well. If you are vegetarian and want the taste of BBQ chicken wings without eating chicken this is the dish for you. Its really all about the sauce and I liked the fresh dill on top .The waiter said it was his favorite dish on the menu.
