With Montreal Canadians and vintage Quebecois memorabilia, it's really not hard to imagine what a real Mom and Pop stores on Main Street used to look like before giant supermarkets and mega stores drove them out of business. This place has absolutely everything to address your poultry needs and then some. The chickens are all grain-fed and sourced locally in Quebec. I haven't tried the sausages yet but they sure looked tempting. The chicken they sell is grain feed and from Quebec, so it's the good stuff. They also have a selection of cheeses and pates, which are nice to round-out a meal. Another thing I like to go there for is their marinated steaks, all of which are good (my favourite is the spicey one). They also have minced horse meat, which is great for burgers. If you're in the neighbourhood or live not to far, and want fantastic quality meats, then you need to come here.

Decor is gentrified vintage shabby chic. Mismatching grommetted chairs, Formica tables , and vintage glassware in display and for sale. You don't come here everyday but it hit me how much Verdun has changed since I moved here. Before Verdun Beef, it was an Italian sandwich counter that also had amazing gelato. Before that, it was the old Cafe Baobab and before that it was one of the last secondhand English bookstores in the Southwest. It's kind of sad that the old Verdun is quickly disappearing.

I'm not super put off by that necessarily, (firm believer in exposing my immune system to enuf bacteria to make it supa strong...), but i know most people are definitely put off by that, so it is worth mentioning i think. But they have very few items on their shelves which they artfully space out symmetrically, which looks nice but kinda silly at the same time. Their meat counter goes all around the store almost, but each item is placed one next to the other sometimes with tons of space between products (the exception being the beef/brochette section see photo). Scarce would be the best way to describe it. We are willing to come back n give it another few tries though to see if it is seasonal (it's late February). Bought house made Italian sausages and 1lb of ground beef today. Will update this review when we try them but first impression is pricey for what it is so far. Update 17-05-04: forgot to update this sooner but original assessment confirmed. The sausage was very fresh which was nice...but bland beyond words, not worth almost 9$ for 3 sausages. The ground beef again tasted fresh but had ..um.. no love ?...yah i duno what i mean by that either ...but just no love lol.
