    Iced Latte and Croissant

Café Central is a charming venue which opened up very recently across the street from Monk metro. I went twice already with my husband and we love their coffee! So far we tried their latte, double espresso and moka, and all were great. The service was good and the barrista was super friendly. Café Central also serves food if you are looking for an afternoon bite. I highly recommend their salad - their Asian-style dressing is very good. The place is fairly large, minimalist in design and filled with a comfortable lounging area, as well as many tables in the back. It's very inviting and an ideal spot to study, write, or just dive into a book. On that topic, they've got a really good selection of books on their two small shelves. They've even got a design and philosophy section! At the back of the café, there's a room dedicated to kids filled with toys and crayons. The owners setup a large window on the main wall, so that parents can sip their coffee in peace while keeping a watchful eye on their progeny. Isn't that an awesome family-friendly concept? Overall the place has a really nice feel to it and we love finally having a quality place to go to in Ville-Émard. It seems Monk street is awakening, little by little. It's a welcome sign in an area that otherwise seems to have been perpetually stuck in the 1980s.

With Verdun having undergone gentrification like no one's business, the next hot-spot is going to be Ville Emard and Monk Boulevard, I think.

First time visiting this place, but it's not new. In fact, it's been in the neighborhood for 5-6…read moreyears! Might be cause the storefront is not the most obvious as the bakery is quite small. The focal point of the bakery is of course, the counter. There is a paper ticket system for service on busier days. When I went in, it was quiet so ticket optional. We were greeted right away by friendly staff. When I asked for recommendations, Marie took me on a visual and descriptive tour highlighting some of their specialty products. I went for the seasonal maple roll dusted with icing sugar, topped with white chocolate chips and a maple crust. Also took a slice of pear almond tart. They were both $4.50 each. The maple roll was densely packed and so much more than a snack. It's really bready so you could have it for breakfast. Slightly sweet and covered in a light glaze. The tart was light tasting and the pastry was full of buttery goodness. Texture is a little bit interesting because it's a cold tart, the juice from the pears soak into the almond paste and make it a little bit cold and slightly mushy. Some people might not like that but I found it ok. Service is friendly and attentive. Pastries are good but a bit expensive.

Definitely have a clafoutis, I loved the pistachio. They also have really good coffee and sandwiches. The quiches are pretty good as well. I don't believe you could go wrong with anything you order. They make the bread daily on premises and use all organic ingredients.
