We came here on Father's Day at 11 am, the place was full. It became immediately apparent there was only 1 server working. We overheard her tell another table they didn't have a dishwasher. We weren't sure if that meant labor, equipment, or both. She also shared this was her 4th day. She should get a medal because she was running, trying to take care of everyone. She also had to brew coffee, bus tables, and get orders from the bar. We saw several tables leave due to the wait, and the rest of the tables either got the wrong food, or got food that was cold, undercooked, or overcooked. This was NOT the server's fault. Management and ownership should be ashamed as this falls on them. McKenzie Pub used to have good, reliable food quality but the last two years have been a downhill slide. About as average as they get- it reminds me of a discount McMenamin's (especially the strip mall location, with an attempt to spruce it up a bit and make it seem a bit less industrial.) Got mozzarella sticks and fries- portions were generous and the food was decent, though nothing to write home about. Bartender was rude and off-putting at first, but warmed up to us on round two for some reason. Drinks are reasonably priced- they have a decent tap selection, with one of those modern boards that shows you the price, alcohol percentage, what is remaining in the keg and the location of the brewery. Seems more like a place to catch the game or a UFC fight; not my scene, but if that is something you are into, you can probably give this place another star. Would I come here again? Probably not. Been here plenty of times for karaoke, but had never tried their food...guess I was missing out. The Breakfast was really really good! The bar was busy for being 11am on a Sunday, but dining room was family friendly. 7 of 8 tables in the dining room were all families. Plus - The music in the background was on point. I am going to start this by saying I have very high standards. I have worked as a bartender in much higher stress situations than here, I have been going to karaoke bars for years and my partner is a karaoke DJ. Tonight we held his birthday party here based on 3 visits and thinking it would be a good fit for 20 (or so) people to celebrate. The bartenders are pretty good, though one seems to disappear for long periods at time, the food is standard bar food though a little over priced for the quality. If I was only reviewing those things they would get 3 stars. They are getting one star because of the karaoke DJ and the fact that she shows blatant favoritism towards "regular" customers. Towards the end of the night multiple regulars had the opportunity to sing twice while people with us didn't sing at all. She would give some people more tome than others to get to the mic when called than others and she started some singers songs before the singer got to the mic. We would become regulars here if not for the lack of perfesionalism from Carried Away Entertainment. If you are looking to hire a DK/KJ and want professionalism look somewhere else. read more

We have been coming here for many years now and I can honestly say its still a solid solid burger. Atmosphere is friendly neighborhood bar lots of regulars and locals. Service was straight forward fantastic with the bartender handling tables and the bar and doing a fantastic job. She greeted us friendly and quick food came out fast and she never missed a beat with drink refills and extra ranch and blue cheese for the tots. Great place for a great burger. read more

With another lock down approaching, I hope the local businesses in Sherwood including this establishment are forced to change their ways. This "good ol boy" routine is really bad for business. First off, the food is OK so I would give it 3 stars normally. Unfortunately, I HATE being deceived and I DISLIKE too much for things. I was looking for a place to throw $40 into a video poker machine plus could get some decent bar food. I went to this place once before and had a burger and a soda (had to go back to work therefore no beer.... ugh!). I won a little money so I had the guy take my tab out for the $48 ticket and I did not notice the cost so much. Today I went after deciding what I wanted by looking at the menu from their website. After losing my $40, I went to pay my tab and found that the $7.50 small nacho is actually $9.50 & the soda was $2.50. The two dollar difference is quite a bit to be off from the price on the website. If you are going to raise prices ($2 is a lot to raise at one time) then you better be doing the same on your website. It's a lot easier to change that than make up a new menu, have it printed and put it in the plastic covers. Next. . . . $2.50 for a soda?? I don't mind paying for a soda but that is a lot. Besides, a good share of pubs/bars today give away soda free to those playing video lottery. I came here because JB O'brien's in King City has expensive food BUT you don't have to pay for the soda while you play. Now that I know the soda is so expensive here, I might as well pay more for the food and go back to O'brien's which is closer to my work. Hey, it's a bar. Close to a friends house, which makes it the destination of choice when in the area. It's one of those bars that has peanut shells all over the ground. I actually find this sort of gross, especially if they get all wet from spillage or rain being tracked about. Foods ok. I had a burger and fries once and they were average. A group of friends ordered the gut busting Large Nachos and managed to finish it. If you do order this particular platter, make sure there are at least 4 in your party to share. I've only ordered a beer here once, and that's probably my last time. The order was taken at a table and then the waiter promptly forgot about it. It wasn't until about a half hour later when a friend asked "Hey, didn't you order a beer?" and I realized he was right. . .my beer was MIA. (Since I'm not a big drinker, I hadn't even noticed). My dear friend then went up to the bar and asked said waiter where my beer had gone. He was able to get my beer, but the waiter never showed with an apology for me. We had the traditional Eggs Benedict, and what they call Redneck Benedict-- split biscuit with sausage patty smothered in country gravy. Both were really good. I will put it this way. I have one major complaint that has pledged this establishment for years.....the men's restroom is discussing. I was a little nervous when bf ordered it as I thought it was going to be a nasty glop of Reser's, but it was actually home made and pretty delicious. I also loved the bbq sauce and I'm guessing (hoping) that was their own recipe too. And did I mention we split this? We didn't leave hungry either! Our sandwich and two of the beers on special came to $11. And then there's the beer. They offer a lot of specials, but it doesn't seem to be on the good stuff. I'd add them to my beer list, but their biggest local offerings were Deschutes, Widmer and Ninkasi, all solid choices and I'm happy with that, but would probably seek them out more if there was a bit more local flavor. First time here, was not over crowded. 10am, sat down and took at least 15 min to be even acknowledged, then another 10 to get order in, then another 25 for food to arrive. Place did get busier by now. My husband's food was good he said, country fried steak. I had eggs Benedict, was ok, the sauce was weird though, almost tasted like cheese in it. My wife and family and I have patronized McKenzie pub regularly since they opened in Sherwood some 17 years ago. For all these years they have provided very good food and service, and have been very accommodating to our special needs son. I know most all of the servers, and especially like Bruce. However I had a very bad experience several weeks ago when i was there on a Wednesday afternoon right after work by myself. The female server literally threw a dollar in my face and screamed at me when I questioned why the two songs I put in the jukebox still had not been played after 45 minutes ... in a literally empty bar. Another patron sitting near me was dumbfounded at her arrogance and nastiness over such minor an issue. Afterwards another friend of mine went in discreetly and heard them discussing it and laughing. It turns out that the server and her non-employee friend were monopolizing the machine through a phone app thus denying paying customers access. Well, I was willing to let it go, and I haven't been back there ... until tonight. Meeting my wife there on a busy Sunday NFL night, I noticed that particular server was working. Mysteriously that very obscure song that I waited almost an hour for months ago came on ... with no one else playing any music (it's a Sunday ... NFL games on every screen). It was obvious the server played the song ... either as an apology, or as a taunting F.U. I assumed it was as an apology thus I thanked her for playing it ... at which point she made it obvious that it was indeed an F.U. I am absolutely amazed at this behavior as I did absolutely nothing to deserve it. Needless to say, after almost 20 years as faithful customers, neither me nor anyone in my family will ever be back ... as long as this disturbed individual is employed there. Popped in here last evening 4/8 on the way to a friends house. I have to say that this place is a hidden gem. I have been over in this area many times and never even knew this place was over here. A girlfriend of mine recently mentioned this place and it is near her home. The bartender was very pleasant and helpful, even introduced my BF to some new IPA. Looks like a place with regulars, what little hole in the wall isn't? I'm glad to say that I would certainly come back and experience the place again. I took the opportunity to come into McKenzie Pub this evening, April 11th 2015. I had a long day at National Guard drill. I didn't have a lot at the house to make and didn't feel like cooking. I came into the pub to get a good, simple meal. Not only did I get that, I received good service from Crystal, who was very chipper, not overbearing, giving me good time to make my choice and to eat my meal. It turns out that the people in the booth behind me purchased my meal for me. Crystal informed me with a big smile on her face, I only wish I could have said thanks personally. My husband and I have been going to McKenzie Pub for several years now since we moved into the area. We go back time and time again for breakfast and dinner. The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is half-typical bar and half-woodsy hometown restaurant. I've seen the signs that say kids can eat there until 9:00 pm, which I think is a pretty cool feature. For breakfast we always order the country combo which runs around $7 and it comes with 2 eggs, a generous helping of your choice of a meat, hashbrowns or diced potatoes AND biscuits and gravy. I usually can't eat the whole plate, but it is good and well worth the price! There is nowhere else in town that I know of where you can get that much food for that kind of a price. Dinners I switch between the typical dinner choice (steak, etc.) and their sandwiches. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich is on the larger side and has just the right amount of sauce. My husband always orders the McKenzie steak with is a steak with grilled peppers and onions on top with a baked potato, salad and garlic bread. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We don't drink much, so I can't comment on the alcohol selection very well. Have had a margarita once in a while which was good. They also have a lot of TVs around the room and one of them usually has something interesting to watch - not always the sports or NASCAR. The only downsides are some nights when you are there and it is poker night or karaoke night and it gets a bit crowded. We always have good and prompt service, even on the busy nights. read more
