We found super friendly and accommodating staff last night at this restaurant. They were busy and admitted our food order might take a while but heck...that was just fine. Friday night is very busy. Apparently too busy. The waitress's service was ok, but hopefully she was just new. The drinks took way too long for the bar to get to the server. We had 3 rounds, and they were all slow. 2 of our 3 orders were lost in the kitchen. The 1 that came out was a long wait, but not bad for how busy they were. We cancelled 1 and waited for the chicken. An hour later it finally came out. All together it took almost 3 hours. We were not in a hurry, but this was a little excessive. We saw several tables turn over more than once with a different server. Everything we had was good. The salad bar was great. Luckily we got to it before the line was all the way to the next room. The manager did discount our tab after we complained. But it wasn't offered up front, despite all the issues. When we try again, it won't be a Friday night. read more

The staff is very friendly, along with the new owner. I can't wait to go back. After ordering a cup of their supremely, outrageously, delicious Clam Chowder, I was offered the salad bar for 1/2 price. It was very very good with lots of options. As for their Clam Chowder, it's available most Friday's with their Fish special. 100% recommend. The ambiance is cozy but not cramped. In the winter, the fireplace adds even more coziness and I was even able to dry my gloves and hat when we stopped for lunch. Very very good food here. read more

A bit out of the way but worth the trip! There is something for everyone here. Want to get together with a large party? There is plenty of room in the dining room. Want to sit on the patio and enjoy the lake view? Yup, you can do that. Belly up to the bar or have a casual get together and play pool? They have that available, too! We choose the dining room so we could enjoy the salad bar with our meals (I believe the salad bar is only available to those seated in the dining room) Nice fresh lettuce, toppings, dressings along with warm rolls and soup. Sauerkraut was the special soup. I'd never had it before and found it very tasty! I had the Walleye dinner with au gratin potatoes, ordering the fish with the beer batter, which was OK but wish I would have stuck to broiled. I'd try the battered fish sandwich next time but the batter was a bit much for the delicate walleye. Schweety ordered the veal parm. He found the red sauce to be a bit sweet and probably wouldn't order it again but the serving was large and hot. So another might enjoy this style. Value here is good as is service. Would like to come back if I was in the area again. read more

We have gone to McKenzie Landing for years. We ordered soon after we arrived and waited an hour and forty minutes to get our food. No one refilled our drinks during that time until we asked at the one hour mark. I understand restaurants are understaffed but tables around us came and went while we waited. We received our appetizers with our food and our baked potatoes 15 minutes after we're were done with our meals. We had young children with us also. I will think long and hard before returning. read more

We've been going to McKenzie landing for years. Our first time in this summer was rough; BUT, like everywhere else in the country, staff shortages kept us waiting for our food. HOWEVER, we went back tonight and it was like old times. Great food, on time, very kind wait staff and comfortable surroundings. If you have been in already this summer, try them again. If you haven't been in yet, try them. If you're lucky, it'll be a Thursday when they serve lasagna (only on an occasional Thursday pasta night). It was honestly outstanding! Plus the menu has some really wonderful additions. Some we've tried are their steak bites with yummy sauce, fried portabella mushroom fries and the Mac 'n cheese. read more

This place is classic midwest at its finest. My husband and I could not decide on what to eat! Too many good choices! We finally agreed to share the broasted chicken and fried walleye. Every dinner comes with a trip to the salad bar. Like I said, classic Midwest - salad, minestrone, tuna salad, pasta salad, rolls, tapioca. all very good. Tuna salad was delicious. Dinners also come with your choice of side (baked potato, cheesy scalloped potatoes, fries...) Thye broasted chicken is sooooo tender, juicy, crispy and delectable. AMAZING! If you are only getting one thing, get this! The scalloped potatoes are laden with cheese. Scrumptious. This meal is not for the faint of heart. The fried walleye was also excellent. A huge generous filet; fried crispy and fresh and moist in the middle. My co-diners said the broiled walleye tasted a bit fishy. Better stick to deep fried! They also have great prices on their bottles of wine. We blew through 3 bottles. For 10 of us, with beers and wine, it came to $33 a person. Not bad for huge portions of excellent stuff! read more

Great service! The waitress we had did such an amazing job! We had 11 ppl in our party plus there was a number of other tables in the dining room and she was really on top of it. She had great recommendations plus was filling up drinks left and right. When we paid our bill, my dad asked to speak with the owner to tell him how good our service was and our waitress turned out to be the owner's granddaughter. No wonder! Nonetheless the food was good but honestly it's the service that makes the food that much better. We were thoroughly impressed. We will definitely be going back. read more

Came here on a Saturday for dinner while on vacation in the Spooner/Webb Lake area. Years ago my parents used to come here all the time and raved about it, so decided to come back. The atmosphere and view of the lake is outstanding. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Drink prices were very reasonable, especially since we were there during their happy hour. Food was absolutely amazing! I had a sirloin, two others in our group had steak and lobster, and the fourth had a pork chop. All food tasted amazing and was cooked to perfection! This was our first visit, with friends who have often enjoyed it. We were pleased with the prompt and friendly service, and the attractive setting. The salad bar was good and the soup of the day, minestrone, was very good. The steak and lobster special looked good but the lobster was mushy and the steak was gristly and lacking in flavor. New York strip, a 12-oz portion, was also flavorless and laced with gristle. (Guess we should have gone with the broasted chicken!) The steak was accompanied by excellent garlic smashed potatoes, however. We enjoyed the deep fried shrimp; they were plump and nicely breaded. If the prime rib was made like The Shop's and the baked potatoe was made like Twin Oaks it would have been the most perfect meal ever. Been here 3 times, different days, all around 6:15 pm. They were busy but not overwhelmed. They have a good salad bar, one of the few places in the area with a salad bar. We've had 6-10 in our group each time (25 total), and each person thought the food was really poor, except for 2 people. The alfredo has no taste and is runny, you can buy many commercial brands that taste much better. The fish fry wasn't crisp, seafood dinner was meh. Hamburger has very run of the mill. Hate to see a place with such a view, nice interior serve food so bad. read more

This is one of my favorite places in the north woods. Right on the lake, you can watch the lake traffic in the summer as well as the activities in the winter. Food is great. I don't know if I can say that I have ever had anything bad there. Food is priced right and the the atmosphere is really good. Fish on Fridays is great. Burgers are amazing. Salad bar is top notch with fresh ingredients. They even make their own frozen bar pizzas. Happy hour is great. Starts at 2:00 PM and you get a good value for what you are paying. read more

Food and atmosphere is good, overlooks Big Mckenzie lake. We went for burgers and the free birthday steak dinner on Wednesdays for your birthday month. Don't ask for onion rings as a substitute for your steak fries - waitress told us it would to be a slight up charge and we were charged the full order price of a side order of onions rings $8 already on top of a chicken sandwich that only cost $9 and came with fries. Would have skipped that if the slight up charge was the same as just adding a separate order of rings. Upon receiving the bill we inquired on the large up charge and were told we did receive a full order of onion rings and that is the only way they were available - so in effect we paid for the fries we never received. read more

We ate here last night. It met our needs. My wife had broasted chicken and I had veal Parmesan. Both were good. Salad bar adequate. In the north woods I'm sure it is difficult to have the content you'd find in a city for a big salad bar. It was too hot to cook in our little lakeside cabin and this place was just what we needed while on a long weekend. Our waitress was pleasant and did a good job. Bonus: Fat Tire on tap. read more
