We ordered the brown butter chocolate chip, chocolate fudge, and pumpkin spice cookies. All three were delicious and had a "personality" of their own. The brown butter was chewy and reminded me of French toast with chocolate chips. The chocolate fudge was flavored like a brownie that melted in my mouth. The pumpkin spice is hard to explain, it was neither crunchy nor chewy, but deliciously loaded with flavors that you would find with a Thanksgiving dessert. Michelle is really good at her craft and very knowledgeable about the ingredients she uses. Her labels show clean ingredients you can actually read and understand. When I spoke with her, I was initially shocked that she can customize your cookies for you. "What flours and sweeteners do you prefer?" "Do you have any allergies?" I did not see any handicapped spaces near the entrance of the bakery, but that's not their fault. There are spaces adjacent to the building and more across a traffic lane. The restaurant is located in the rear inside corner of the shopping center. There is a sign above the entrance so it is easy to locate. Walking in, the baked goods case is on the left wall. We were greeted almost immediately by someone coming out of the rear kitchen area. The staff was helpful in describing the items. Our first visit was near their closing time, so there were not many items left. We did find a few we wanted to try. Our next visit was earlier in the day and the selection was significantly greater. I cannot identify everything we saw or even purchased, but I can tell you everything was quite good. The filled items had fillings like cheese, fruit, one was even ham and cheese. The others were more like sweet breads and muffins. It was very hard to limit ourselves when making our selections as everything looked so good. Tasting each item proved our eyes were good judges of flavor. Mary's Bakery is an unassuming bakery in an unassuming location that provides some excellent products. It is certainly worth your time to visit.

Even a little after 10am on a Saturday, you can tell this place is a very popular hangout. I waited in line for about 10 minutes, but the line moves fast. I concur with other reviewers that the staff is so friendly, helpful and energetic. I ordered a Cafe Au Lait with a shot of caramel syrup. Once I looked at the pastry items, I knew the Blueberry Lavender scone had my name all over it! I sat outside on a sidewalk bistro table and enjoyed both items immensely on a gorgeous Chattanooga morning. This place also has inside seating as well as a nice patio setup. We didn't know and went straight to outdoor seating, which worked out because we got a table and about a minute later we figured out the ordering process. I ordered the chicken salad croissant for my wife, then the California club for myself and then I had to order quiche Lorraine for the table. I had filtered tap water for my drink and my wife had a can of Diet Coke with a slice of lemon and ice in a cup, provided. Service was pretty quick, between our order placement and table delivery it was 7 minutes. The quiche was custardy inside with a delicious hint of caramelized shallots to go with the bacon and cheese/egg filling. The bacon did not overwhelm. The crust was perfectly baked and a nice flakey crust. The accompanying arugula and onion salad dresses with oil and vinegar and seasonings was an excellent pairing of freshness with the richer quiche. This is a big hit, as expected when advertised on the menu as "available until sold out." The California Club was on 6 grain toasted bread with an avocado spread and aioli, bacon, turkey, tomato and lettuce. I really liked the balance of each component in this sandwich, such that nothing dominated the flavors and each distinctive was individually identifiable in the contribution to the whole sandwich. The portion was just right. The chicken salad was also good, but was the bronze medal winner compared to the other two. The croissant was flaky, but not too much. The chicken salad had just a hint of lemon and was not overwhelmed with aioli, just the right balance. This was a fantastic meal. We liked this so much, we chose to buy two loaves of bread to go, a Chattanooga Sourdough and a garlic Parmesan and also a 5 lb bag of in house ground bread flour. I need one of these in Greenville, SC, my hometown. Last thing to note, you bus your own table and there is a dish basin nearby the outside dining area in which to place your dishes. This was an excellent lunch spot. The staff were also friendly and patiently helpful. This is a must visit spot when visiting or living in Chattanooga!
