Then we have todays incident, I called to verify my annual exam appointment that has been scheduled since last year and the receptionist confirmed, not even 10mins later I get a call stating that the provider I see is no longer with the practice and I would need to reschedule however they wouldn't be able to see me for another year. A few hours later I am called to confirm my appointment and I had to remind the receptionist that they cancelled me. If you are really seeking care I would look anywhere but here.

His office staff is not professional and the restroom was unkempt. If he had seen me in August when my appointment was supposed to be, he could have diagnosed me and started treatment.

I have maintained my good health and completely eliminated my back and neck pain by continuing the exercises that they taught me. If I ever have problems, I will get to them before I have a medical procedure or spend a lot of time and money jumping from doctor to doctor.

I was sitting behind a young man who had been shot in the stomach and kept going to the bathroom to throw-up. He was in a wheelchair and she came out and said to the young man "May I help you?" They ran blood work and other tests on both of us and placed us in separate rooms. Dr. Taylor was overseeing my care. From my experience, I did not feel like my concerns were taken seriously, and I felt like my evaluation was rushed. I was diagnosed with Flu Type A and food poisoning. I was given Tylenol, a prescription for nausea, and told to go home and rest. Tylenol and go home. Meanwhile, the doctor treating my wife took a much more extensive approach. She received IV fluids, medication for her pain, additional testing, and a CT scan. She was also diagnosed with food poisoning. Eventually, we were both released and sent home. Then things got much worse for me. Last night, I developed a high fever, severe abdominal pain, and my cough continued to get worse. I knew something wasn't right, so I went to ORH this morning for a second opinion. Dr. Joseph Hollingsworth took a much more thorough approach. I was put on an IV, given morphine for the pain and other medications, and underwent a CT scan and additional testing. The diagnosis: acute diverticulitis, Flu Type A, AND pneumonia. Let that sink in. I went to the first hospital extremely sick, was diagnosed with the flu and food poisoning, given Tylenol and nausea medication, and sent home. Hours later, after my condition became significantly worse, another doctor found acute diverticulitis and pneumonia on top of the Flu Type A. This is NOT something to take lightly. The pain has been so severe that I feel completely out of it, and my chest feels like it is literally on fire. I'm sharing this because people need to understand something: don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. If you know something isn't right with your body and you feel like you're not being heard, ask questions. Ask for additional testing. Ask for another opinion. And if necessary, go somewhere else. Doctors are human, and mistakes can happen. But when someone is sick, they deserve to be listened to and properly evaluated--not made to feel like they're just another person being pushed through the ER. I'm not saying every doctor is bad. There are doctors who genuinely listen, investigate, and fight to figure out what is wrong. Dr. Hollingsworth is an example of the kind of care I needed today. But my experience at Medical Center Hospital left me extremely disappointed and concerned about what could have happened if I had simply gone home and accepted the first diagnosis. I am extremely thankful I trusted my gut and went for a second opinion.

I grew up knowing this hospital. My dad was a nurse there for a while. I was in and out from time…read moreto time and I always found myself up there for whatever reason visiting or being in it. As an adult who married a Cystic Fibrosis patient and living in Odessa, ten hours away from the CF a clinic and his doctors.. MCH was nowhere near what we needed for my husband during a difficult health moment and I will say, this is a way smaller hospital than what my husband is used to and they don't really know about CF and what's needed. Transfer orders took forever, there was so much confusion on the Odessa side when the Houston side had everything figured out and were waiting for us. When we would talk to the nurses and doctors, they wouldn't listen. Respiratory took over a day to visit, good thing we brought our own meds, which they then took downstairs to check into their system to bring it back up so he could do his treatments and we never received our medicine. They never came back with it. OUR meds that we brought. We know that MCH is not where we will go next time. For smaller less concerning needs, it's fine. For us, we will just drive to Houston next time.
