My hubby had a training here last week & he took me with him. I really like this base, so green & quiet! People are very nice , helpful. I love the fact that how clean this base is . The room we stayed in was good, service was great. Housekeeping was excellent. We had a good staying here . There is everything that you need here. It's spacious. I haven't been here in many moons since my dad was stationed here. Army Navy Marines Airforce are all represented in this exchange. Prices are about the same as anywhere else. They do have sale items From clothing to things for your house and for your pets. I think they have everything you need not necessarily everything you want. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Helpful and patient. I hope I get to come back soon. read more

The main downside is that the base is very far from the rest of civilization. It takes about 25 minutes to get anywhere worth buying or doing something. But the drive is nice as you leave to go there. It is surround by farms and country houses and everything like that!! read more

Just attended my second airshow in my 62 years. This was the most horribly organized in my life took three hours for me to get to the front gate and seated. The show itself sucked. The last time I saw an airshow was when I was a preteen and I guess I enjoyed it a lot better when I was younger, so I guess that's probably the reason why horribly organized nobody seem to know what was going on mega lines even to get through security power in the Pines stay home in 2025. That's my absolute recommendation. read more

So we arrived in Cookstown at 9:45. Figure a mile and a half more then we'd be in the McGuire gate. Noooooooope at 2 PM at the gate, they turn us away. My kids have been there for a month and a half in a hotel and they had to pay out of pocket the government paid for one week and that is so terrible and now they finally got there house and cannot get there furniture because the paperwork has been sitting on their desk for 2weeks and need to be fixed so they have sleep on the floor until it comes Smdh read more

Pretty good overall base...roads wash out during rain storms. Plenty to do for TDY, and kids. Gym is pretty good and bowing alley has decent grub. DFAC could use some work. Need a vehicle very large base. Hotel accommodations are adequate, and food near the base is diverse. read more

I'd give it a zero but one star is the best I can give it. Here for the air show. Purchased $200 worth of preferred seating. Left my house 2 1/2 hrs ago ( I live 35-40) min away. Whoever organized this without a TRAFFIC plan should be fired. Cops and military all standing on the side lines doing Nothing about this traffic. Been on cookstown rd for over an hour and half. Horrible organization and lack of management Kids in the car crying no place to get to a bathroom if I didn't pay o er $200 I'd be heading home. We've now missed the opening ceremony and still can't even get I. The main gate. GPS tell me another half hour. Worst ever experiences. I do t care that it rained yesterday. Who or where is your backup plan!!! God help us if we have to depend on this base for security. read more

This base is huge ! The welcome center staff was pretty friendly. I'm glad their procedures were so seamless. Can't wait to visit again.

Military Air Force base, officially Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The commissary and Exchange or off Broidy Road. Be aware that the speed limit around base is 25MPH or lower so pay attention to the speed limits. You WILL get a ticket if caught going even 1 or 2 over the speed limit! Food at the dining facility is great. To enter the base you'll need to be with someone who has authorized access (military, or civilian with DoD ID card) The air shows are great. read more

Not only my home base but also my favorite AFB base thus far. I've been coming here since 2015 and still love being out here regardless of weather conditions. The All American inn staff are always great and very helpful with giving me accommodations for drill weekends and makeups, subway is a great spot for a quick bite, and the theatre and bowling alley are always open if you're looking for something fun to do on base. The only downside is the base is relatively large and walking from destination to destination is a hassle and can be quite dangerous during winters. Sometimes they offer on base shuttle services for those without cars. If you need a ride ask around, get their number, and give them a call, they schedule pickups to accommodate your schedule. The commissary and food courts have great food options, and smoothie king has 5 dollar smoothies any size on Tuesdays. read more

This review is for the Air Show held at the base each year. Make sure you leave early, traffic gets crazy around here by mid morning/afternoon. You are going to do ALOT of walking (several miles when all is said and done) so plan accordingly. There is a pretty extensive checkpoint before entering, so leave your lighters, cigarettes and things of that nature in the car. They will be confiscated! You CAN bring fold up chairs to sit on for the event (there is NO seating provided. There's great planes, helicopters, tanks etc for you to tour. Kids and adults will enjoy this event. I LOVED THE AIR SHOW!!!!! Amazing. The worst part of the day was the unbelieveably terrible traffic leaving the base. We were stuck in our parking spot, with no movement for about an hour. It look about 90 minutes just to leave the parking lot. I don't think this can be avoided. All in all it was a great event. You can't beat that it's free too!!! I am already planning my visit for next year! read more

This review is for the Airshow at Joint base Fort Dix/McGuire. Airshow Tips : Get there REALLY early. Earlier than us. We got there at noon to be able to see the Thunderbirds at 230. We waited over an hour for the bus for the over 3 mile ride to the airstrip before giving up. We decided to watch the show from the parking lot 3 miles away and that wound up being fun.Seated on our beach chairs we loved the show from the grassy parking lot. And when the show was over we were off that part of the base in maybe 6 minutes. We didn't see the "close to the ground" maneuvers those at the airstrip would have seen but it was the best alternative to the crowded buses. From our parking lot vantage point we could see the 5 buses pulling up every 30 minutes so I seriously doubt our spot would have boarded any earlier than 1.5 hrs as there were hundreds of people in line . In speaking with those in the know once you disembark the bus at the airstrip there is also a security checkpoint that has a long line before entering the viewing area. My conservative calculation on this day is it would have taken 2 hrs to get to the viewing after after leaving your car. Figuring a return trip to the lot after the show with bigger crowds, you could spend a great deal of time just getting to and fro. Would be hard if you had kids. We saw many people leave the line like us. Most with kids just went home without seeing the show. That is sad because the families that stayed in the parking lot just climbed on top of their cars and they squealed with delight as the jets flew over our heads many times !!! Also, bathrooms are porta potties sans hand sanitizer so bring sanitizer with you. * Basically, if you have kids, plan ahead. This is in no way negatively reflective of the base or staff. They are helpful, pleasant and we felt welcomed here. And the show is free and on a nice day would be a good family thing to do. Just leaving these tips for people with kids so they know. read more

Pretty big base but nothing really here. Lot of roundabouts and very little lighting once it gets dark. I could hardly see at night driving in base. The Fitness Center is ok. The Exchange and Commissary seem a little unorganized. At least everything is within 10 minutes driving distance. read more

Don't get me wrong - the air show was great. However, from the moment we got close to the air base, we sat more than 2 1/2 hours in traffic and then had to wait for more than an hour in line for the bus to take us from the parking lot to the air show. Then we had only 2 hours at the event and had to wait an hour in line for the bus again. And then of course another 1/2 hour in traffic only to get off the base. Although the show was great it was not worth the 5 hour total wait. Very poor logistics and will not go back. read more

Visiting my son at the air show. The air show was fantastic. The Breitling team was unbelievable, but the USAF Thunderbirds stole the show. It was really cool seeing the B2 bomber fly by a couple of times. read more

Didn't get to go. Was stuck in traffic for some time just to get into the base. I saw several other cars turning around after having waited in line for a long time also. There was no one directing traffic at intersections which made it a lot worse. They lack the roads and the traffic coordination at intersections with no traffic lights right outside the entrance. :-( Travelled here over an hour away just to run around right outside the gate bacause traffic wasn't moving at all. read more
