I just had a pretty amazing experience with McGuinness Car Service. I normally take Java, but today because it's raining and rush hour and God knows why else, I could only get a busy signal from those guys. I searched for an alternative and found McGuinness. I have to admit, it wasn't looking good when after waiting twenty minutes for the car to come, they told me that their guy was stuck in traffic. I'm getting nervous because my flight is in a little over an hour at LGA. We clearly have an issue here. Here's where the boys over at McGuinness step up, they send their dispatcher in his personal car! I was VERY relieved and impressed. Needless to say, I've added them to my phone book and will for certain be using them in the future. Traffic was bad, but my man got me to the airport in time. I'm currently waiting for my flight and a pizza in the lounge as my flight was delayed. Five stars. read more

I'm really, really torn about this. My experience with McGuinness has been mostly positive and I truly want to support local Polish businesses. I really do. However, I can't give them a good review in light of my recent (dangerous, terrifying) experience. Bit of a background: I've taken McGuinness car service maybe 30 times now. Most of the time they're really prompt, arriving within 5 minutes or less. Impressive. Most drivers are quite friendly, though your mileage may vary - their grasp on English seems tenuous at best. I speak Polish, so my experience with them is inherently different, obv. They're cheap and the cars are usually clean. Last week, however, I had an experience that's made me reconsider calling McGuinness ever again. The driver arrived promptly, as per usual. I'd never had him pick me up before. He seemed jittery, wiggly, anxious to get going. I can't make assessments about his sobriety, but his behavior gave me pause. I should've got out of the car right then and there. Well, since I didn't, I was treated to THE SCARIEST CAR RIDE OF MY ENTIRE DAMN LIFE. I am talking Grand Theft Auto style, maniacal, psychotic driving. Going 90 on the Williamsburg bridge (edit to clarify: it was late at night) Bullying other cars to an extent I'd never seen before, nearly causing numerous accidents. All while blasting 80s anthemic rock, for an extra horrific twist. I've been in cars with reckless drivers before, but this was different. I honestly thought my life would soon come to a violent, fiery end, and though I'm not religious, I did utter a few silent prayers. For the record - I asked him to slow down, repeatedly, and reiterated that I'm in no hurry. To no avail. We got from North Greenpoint to the LES in... record time. 10 minutes, if that. Never again. Not ever. I should have called Dial7 or some more reputable place, but I was in a rush. For Greenpoint, I hear Northside is good. But I won't ever be calling McGuinness again. There's nothing more sketchy than a car service that quotes you one price, and when you pay it the driver has a fit that it isn't enough and calls the dispatcher, and then when the dispatcher gives you a new price (which was the same as the original price plus the tip I gave) the driver still complains. They clearly don't have set policies or prices, and that means they're just trying to take advantage of their customers. No, I didn't forget to pay the toll. You quoted me the price including the toll. The words out of the dispatcher's mouth. All that drama AFTER the driver got lost and went the long way because he DIDN'T LISTEN to the directions he asked for? You're in the livery business, the least you could do is have some kind of clue about the major byways in the city, and for the love of god BUY A GPS! read more

I've been using this car service almost exclusively for more than two years, primarily for rides from Greenpoint to LGA. Their prices are reasonable, and even with the high price of gas, they didn't change their rates that much. The drivers are safe and friendly, and the dispatcher is willing to arrange a ride at almost any time of day -- I've gotten a ride as early as 4:30 a.m. for an early morning flight. More importantly, they're not one to hold a grudge. For those early-morning flights, I've overslept -- or not set my alarm correctly. They'll still come to pick you up to make good on your reservation, without throwing any attitude around. Likewise, they're extremely honest. A friend visiting from the Midwest accidentally paid with a $50 instead of a $20 and got change for the mistaken $20. When I called the car service to see if the driver had said anything -- and whether I could retrieve the overpaid $30 -- there wasn't any problem at all. The driver copped to the overpayment, and the dispatcher told me to swing by to pick up the balance. Can't get much better service than that! By far the best car service I've ever used in my entire life. The driver's are incredibly friendly, punctual, willing to help out if you need it, and have no problem driving you between Brooklyn and Manhattan. I highly recommend them, especially over a company like Northside. If you're in North Williamsburg or Greenpoint, use McGuinness. Seriously. read more

Took them the day before thanksgiving. They didn't bother to all when the guy came so I waited 10 minutes after the appointment time I set before I had to call and the guy rudely said the man had been waiting outside for 10 minutes. I asked why no one called me and he yelled that the guy was downstairs and hung up on me. Very disappointed with their rude and unprofessional behavior. read more

Never again. I called to have them pick me up at 6.45pm, at 6.50 they still weren't there, had to call them back to find out what happened, finally at 6.55pm they arrived. The car, was not a livery vehicle, no livery plates, no markings in or on the car indicating this was a proper car service. I was totally sketched out getting in the car, it was messed up. I called this service to get a ride to JFK airport. The driver arrived on time and we got to the airport on time. Here's where the complaining comes in. Two minutes after I got out of the car I realized my cell phone was no longer in my pocket. I quickly starting asking strangers if I could use their cell phone. I called the car service and told them that my phone was in the car and I would pay for the taxi driver to come back to the airport. The dispatcher said he would call the driver and then call me back. After 10 min. passed I decided that I'm going to call the dispatcher back. I ask him if he was able to get in contact with the driver. He said yes, but that the driver had searched the whole car and wasn't able to find the phone. I said this was impossible, and he said there's nothing he can do. Unfortunately I was on an international flight, really needed my cell phone, and had to wait until the next day to check icloud and findmyiphone. When I login to icloud I can see the location of the phone on 158 Nassau Ave (McGuinness Car Service). At this point I go into a rage because I'm now in Europe without a phone that I should have. I put a message on the phone saying $40 for return, no questions asked. At this point the car service calls my mom and tells her they were able to find my phone but that they want the $40 reward. Basically, they stole my phone for $40. Because before the reward was offered, they pretended like they didn't have my phone. And after I posted a reward, all of a sudden they found it and wanted the money. My mom drove to pick up the phone and gave them $40. Absolutely unbelievable. The phone should have been returned for free. These people are dishonest and I will never use their service again and I will tell people not to use them. read more

Excellent car service! I have used is four times in the past month to get to JFK and LGA. Very reasonable prices (much cheaper than a cab)! Cars are always clean and the drivers are very nice. They have called to tell me when they were leaving the office so I know when to be downstairs. Excellent service and is officially in my phone book for future use. read more

The worst car service ever! First of all the car service was 30 minutes late. Saw the car out my window and the 2 seconds it took me to get out onto the street the car was gone. Waited and waited finally got feed up and called the car service company. Supposedly the driver was waiting outside for me for 7 minutes and had to move the car because people were honking for the driver to move. 100% bull! I can hear everything outside my window and I heard no honking. Then when I asked the car service if they were going to send me another car they hung-up on me. Will never use them again. Extremely unreliable. Were supposed to pick me up at 7am. Called at 7:05 to say they had a flat and needed a few minutes. I waited ten minutes and then had to look for a cab because I was in a huge rush. They called another ten minutes later, left no message, and did not call back...clearly they were not coming to pick me up. read more

TERRIBLE **DANGEROUS** EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!! This review is not about a measly over charged or misquoted cab fare. It is about feeling like my life was in jeopardy and that the driver is a potential rapist. I was at a bar right next to the dispatch office of the car service and walked in and asked for a car and was told it would be 2 min, a few seconds later one of the drivers comes out of the office and told me he would take me, luckily it was only a short ride to where I was going, I said ok for him to take me. There was a infant car seat in the back and he told me to sit in the front, I told him there was enough room & that I would still sit in the back, he insisted I sit in the front and I said no and then he moved the infant seat out of the back seat. I was already weirded out he kept asking me to sit in the front because I have had previous pervy bad experiences with cab drivers before but this was by far the worse. Finally, while he is driving he starts asking me personal questions, if I"m drunk, if I like to drink or take drugs, what my name was and what I planned on doing once he took me home. I did not answer any of his questions and he just kept on. Finally as we approached my block I told him to stop the car. He said "wait, let me park" and pulls around the corner of my block, parks the car, takes the key out of the ignition and comes aroiund to my door to open it for me. I stepped out of the car and he askes "so what are you doing, can I come inside with you?" I just basically threw the fare at him and ran off. I wanted to tell him off but at this point he was outside of the car and could have chased or attacked me. I am extremely infuriated about this experience and mad at myself for even paying him. I did not lead him to believe in anyway I wanted any contact with him. I am completely disgusted. Women especially taking cars at night, please be weary of these drivers!!!!! read more

Pffffffffff first review I've ever written but I'm compelled to because of how completely beyond rude and unprofessional my experience was. I should have known from the start when the only way I knew the driver was there was because he was halfway down the block (there was an open spot directly in front of my house btw) honking nonstop. Car wasn't a black car and didn't even look like a car service car so I didn't know it was him, I walk over and he rolls down the window and without looking at me beckons with his hand to get in, I have to go back down the street to lug my suitcase to the car. Ride is fine but when we get to the airport and I offer him my card (I had specifically made sure with the dispatcher when booking the car that they accepted cards and was told yes) he starts screaming at me how his boss told him he was going to get cash and how if he knew it was card he would have charged me double (NOT MY PROBLEM that he was told something untrue....or I was), he said I had to go inside and get cash and when I said I would he said he was going to hold my luggage because he "didn't trust me"! Im definitely not about to leave my luggage with him bc now I don't know if he's going to drive off with it so I called the car service bc I didn't know what to do as he was yelling at me in front of the airport causing a scene. Dispatcher was apologetic and I paid with my card over the phone, but they asked me to hand the phone over to the driver and he screamed at the dispatcher in Polish, basically threw my phone at me and walked away without looking at me saying "No good!!" As I'm basically crying. F**k these rude a** people!!!! Do not give them your business unless you want to be treated like crap, lied to and screamed at like it's your fault read more
