My favorite bar in Harrisburg. Their happy hour is excellent. 4:30-7pm. Half off drafts, and some mixed drink specials. Also, discounts on their appetizers. The sandwiches are also very good. I cannot comment on the full dinners, but judging by the rest of the food/service, I would assume they are good. read more

Quiet little Pub just off Walnut St. Found this place for lunch. We were quickly waited on and the food came out fast. I had the Celtic Bacon Cheese Burger and fries and it was amazing! I highly recommend this place for anyone in the area looking for a good pub burger. read more

I have eaten at McGrath's many times over the past 12 years since it is close to the office and has been my favorite regular lunch spot. In all that time I do not recall one bad meal. The weekly specials are always creative and tempting enough to bring me in. I frequently enjoy the wings, which are close to perfect for me. The regular bartenders are friendly and helpful, especially Joanna and Kevin. The only disappointment for me is that there may not be any seats open if you don't come before noon or call ahead for a reservation, especially on Fridays. Otherwise I have no complaints about this fine establishment. read more

Fantastic little pub. Great food with large portions and the best homemade chips. Great beer selection accompanied with Irish music overhead for part of the night. Really glad I stopped in! read more

Irish Pubs strike me as the least common denominator. I picture a place serving Guiness and bangers and mash. Mcgrath's crushes those expectations. Many interesting options on the menu, Salmon and chips most of all. Things can be a little salty, but that can be countered with beer, right! Portions are immense and a great value for the price. Oh, and the Blarney Bread? Technically it is cheesy bread. Get it. This cheesy bread might be the best appetizer I've ever had. The stuff should be declared an addictive substance and outlawed. Mcgrath's gets my #1 recommendation if you are in downtown Harrisburg. read more

In town for a wedding and stopped by this place for a quick drink. Great blue collar bar. Awesome staff. If you're in town this is a must stop. read more

Had the meatloaf. It was awesome. Huge portion for the money. Mashed potatoes and Guinness gravy was also very good. Service was excellent. read more

McGrath's Pub - Bridget's Irish Meatloaf! A must order! It was awesome. - New American Near Me - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Best bar in harrisburg. Period. Irish pub, with a neighborhood bar vibe. Nice tap selection, 16-18, mostly micro with a few english/irish. Local micro brewery Troegs is almost always well represented with around 4 on tap. Good food, typical bar stuff. Service better for locals, but friendly enough. I don't venture upstairs much, and typically visit during 5-7 happy hour when drafts are half off, as is the bar menu. Otherwise beers are a bit pricey, but in line with area bars. read more

This is my go to place. The staff is wonderful, the beer selection is awesome, and the food top notch! Props to the owners who really care about their customers. The food specials stand out, one of my favorites is the Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner Burger which is what it says. Turkey Burger with Almond Stuffing, Cranberry Dressing, Mash Potatoes and Gravy. Easiest to eat with knife and fork. read more

We found McGrath's Pub recently during our first time ever visiting Harrisburg. We walked to "Restaurant Row" from our hotel in search of someplace nice to have lunch. McGrath's menu and appearance was very inviting so we walked in. Our waiter immediately greeted us warmly and told us we had come to the only "authentic" Irish Pub in town. We really like "pub food" so we felt right at home. Our meal was fantastic. I had awesome baked potato soup and an open-faced chicken sandwich with a light brown gravy- chicken melted in your mouth and the gravy was smooth and creamy. We will make it a point to eat at McGrath's every time we're in town. Thank you! read more

This is where my friends usually go for happy hour, we love it there. Their draft beers are half off until 7 and they have some discount food as well. I've never had a bad meal here and their specials are always interesting and good. It does get crowded, but that's because so many people love it. Great place. It's smoking upstairs and non-smoking downstairs, so everyone can be happy! read more

This place is awesome the Irish pub burger may be the best burger I've ever had my girlfriend and I just chose this place on a whim it was a great choice I'm almost sad to live so far away great beer on tap next to some louder bars it's a good location dining in the back kids should have no problem here they serve food late it's great food read more

My husband and I had walked in after visiting a terrible bar down the street. McGrath's was jumping but we found two seats at the bar and were immediately greeted by a very friendly bartender. Got our 2 beers in no time at all and had a great rest of our night! Super friendly staff, excellent service and the food is really amazing too! We didn't eat here on this particular night, but have had plenty of meals in the past. Love their loaded fries, sheppard's Pie and you can't go wrong with any of their burgers. Hope this place stays in HBG for a very long time! read more

Great beer selection and always changing. The beer is a little pricey, but the food is great and the service is always attentive. They have a good list of revolving specials which usually has some tasty wings! read more

It's a decent place, but you have to go at the right time. After dark, that area is very Urban and crowded. During the day, many people from the local high class businesses go there for lunch and meetings. This makes the atmosphere "not very welcoming" to put it nicely. The staff is ok, but I have experienced a much better Irish Pub type experience. This is an American pub trying to be Irish. read more

So, being totally new to downtown Harrisburg we looked for a familiar kind'a place. This filled the bill. I had the corned beef and bangers hash. It was BARFOOD!! In capitol letters. This is not a slam but rather an endorsement! Plenty, tasty, and fun. Great neighborhood pub regardless of where you call home! read more

McGrath's was established in 2002 as downtown Harrisburg's first authentic irish pub. It's fairly popular with the late twenties early thirties crowd. It's a classy place with a real irish feel to it. It has a laid-back, comfortable, cozy atmosphere. Perfect place to enjoy a few pints of half-and-half with a couple firends. It has two floors. The downstairs has a dining area as well as a nice bar with authentic irish decor. The upstairs is an extension of the dowstairs but a little smaller. It was recently revovated with additional outdoor seating. The upstairs area is a great place to rent out for private parties. They also just added a lounge and a game room complete with darts and Golden Tee. They have 5 nice size HD TV's as well. The menu features classic pub food with a few interesting dishes. The sandwiches are good. The appitizers are good. Only eaten there twice but I was impressed both times. Overall, I give McGrath's 2 thumbs up. Happy Hour: (5-7 mon-fri) $1 off all drafts and mixed drinks read more

I frequent Mcgraths on a regular basis. I like it; I like the food. However, I'm regularly disappointed by the bartender Joanna who is downright rude. If you aren't quite ready to order another drink she flat out asks you to leave the bar. This has happened numerous times, despite my frequent patronage. For instance, I had more to drink in my glass, and she took it without asking if I was done. She's rude. On the other hand, if Chris is there, he's fantastic, incredibly friendly, and treats customers well. As I said, the food is good, but the selective service truly turns me off. read more

First time guests. Great service, excellent beers, and the McGraths cheesy bread is amazing. Will def be back.

INCREDIBLE food. Awesome atmosphere, very nice staff who take pride in their tasty creations and friendly patrons...delicious beer too! We found our local food and watering hole. A++++ I recommend the Baby Bella for fellow vegetarians read more

Good food. Expensive. The bar is interesting with some character to it. I had Guinness and their fried fish platter which was good. Our waitress was not too friendly as if she could not be bothered, but when it came to the check and her tip, she turned it on "for two seconds" and acted all nice to get a nice tip. Willing to come back through for the food. read more

What a horrific St. Patrick's Day experience! We come here EVERY year for St. Patrick's Day. The food and drinks were delicious. It always is. What really got us was when their credit card processing system went down. We waited almost an hour for them to get it back up and running as I did not carry cash. The waitress came up to my group to tell us they were still unable to process credit cards. I asked for a manager. When she came back, she told us the manager, who I believe his name was Tom Scott, was "too busy" to talk to us. I explained to her that if he was too busy to talk to us, I was too busy to pay and requested my card back. She said she was going to write down my card number and process it later. I was not going to let that happen for security reasons. As far as I know, they could have done this on purpose to steal my card number. When Tom the manager came up I asked how we were going to resolve this issue? He told me we would just have to wait. I told him that they had my card over 40 minutes. He told me I was wrong which I was not. I asked for my card back and he would not give it back. He said he would write down the card number. I told him I wasn't doing that or using the ATM upstairs because I didn't feel it was fair to pay a fee to get cash to pay him. I told him I would go to the register grab my card and he could call the police to get this resolved. In the end, I grabbed all our credit cards from the register, and we walked out without paying our tabs which ranged from 20 to 70 dollars. What a poor excuse for customer service. We will never return nor should anyone patronize such a pathetic excuse for a business that employs such a horrid manager! read more

This is a great spot for comfort food. Great beer selection and all the servers I have had have been very nice. Food comes quick enough so I had plenty of time to eat during my lunch hour. the girlfriend stopped in to grab some carry out dinners for st patty's day yesterday, now I know it was a holiday and they were packed but the bangers and mash was awful, the sausages were half hard and crispy, the second one I bit into you couldnt even bite through..."freezer burnt or something" and the corned beef was tough, we ended up giving 25 bucks worth of food to the dogs...The chicken tenders she ordered for the kid were good though" read more

BBQ wings were great. Fish and chips, not so much. Be aware that there is smoking allowed upstairs so if you are asthmatic, you may want to avoid this place. The smell permeates even downstairs. read more

Thanks to all the positive reviews on Yelp, we stopped here for lunch during a long drive home from Canada. Located just a few blocks from the Capitol building, this place was crazy-busy when we arrived. Had to wait a while until we could get the bartender's attention. But from there, things went uphill. My wife and I shared a great meatloaf entree with Guinness-Rosemary gravy, in a portion size as big as your head. The bar has a huge selection of local beers; the bartender was very knowledgable. We told him what we liked and he recommended a few good local beers. We had fun eavesdropping on the locals sitting next to us at the bar. They were a hoot! Note that the upstairs is a smoking room but it was closed for a private party; thankfully we could not smell any smoke from the downstairs bar. The street parking is very limited, but there is a fenced private lot directly across the street from McGrath's. read more

I typically enjoy going to McGraths since it's in walking distance of my apartment and it's one of the few bars near 2nd street that has that "chill, neighborhood-type bar" vibe going on, but my visit tonight made me never want to go back again. If you put cash up on the bar, the bartender that is in his 50s (could be in his 40s if he ages badly) with a creeper mustache will steal money from you for his tip. I had it happen to me tonight and thought it might have been a mistake but then when I asked the guys sitting next to me about it, they both said that this particular bartender is notorious for that. I'm a good tipper, and he may have got $8 off of me for 2 beers anyway, but the fact that he helped himself to that tip made me never want to go back to this bar again. read more

The food was great and the happy hour prices are reasonable. I had the Blarney bread as a starter and it was very good and it was made up of 2 or 3 different cheeses. This place is fantastic! Got the short ribs and it was fire, you can get lit on these seasonal brews.

This place is HANDS DOWN delicious! My boyfriend and I went here on a whim and it took us by surprise. The prices are right for the meals you get! We were in the area overnight, returning from a trip. Decided pub fare sounded good. We found this place using our GPS and cross checking with Yelp. McGarth's is in downtown Harrisburg, bit of a maze with many one way streets. NP with GPS. Very attractive, pub like exterior and interior very warm and inviting. Walked past the bar area to the dining room and were seated promptly, drinks orders taken. Our server ( Matt - very good ) explained the specials and also answered our question regarding where we parked. We ordered, a cottage shepherds pie for me and an Irish meatloaf for my lady. Both dishes were excellent, the shepherds pie had a whipped potato "crust" with lots of veggies and ground beef and lamb within. The meatloaf was a thick slice, bacon wrapped and gravy covered with steamed broccoli. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. Matt also explained there was another bar room upstairs with live music at times. As we planned an early departure in the morning, we returned to our hotel without checking it out. Very enthusiastically recommended! read more

Best bar in Harrisburg--and isn't close. Very high quality, unique food. As far as the bartenders: Emily D. is a doll, but Anna is a complete snot. read more

The best bar in Harrisburg, hands down. Top rate beer selection and a cozy atmosphere. The lunch and dinner menus are well above-average too, though the only vegetarian items are a portabello wrap and a side salad. The only downside is that it can get very crowded on weekend nights and at happy hour. But if you're lucky to get a seat during these times you'll find that you don't need to go anywhere else. read more

My husband and I were in town for the Great American Outdoor Show, and it also happened to be my birthday. We read great reviews for a few local places in downtown, and McGraths was first on my list. We had a group of 10 people, all around 30, well dressed, and polite. We arrived at McGraths around 9:30pm on February 4th, 2017 and I stepped into the doorway to hand the bouncer/ door guy my ID. He immediately started screaming and cursing at us and telling us we were absolutely not coming in, we all stood there quietly looking at each other thinking he was messing with us and joking around. He then stepped forward and shoved my husband out of the door. I think my mouth was probably on the floor I was totally shocked and I said to the bouncer if he had a problem he could have nicely told us what is was and we would have kindly obliged, then he began screaming and cursing at me as well and told me we couldn't have "f***ing chewing tobacco in his bar. I once again said he could have nicely told us that and he would have thrown it away, I asked for a manager, he said absolutely not, then I thanked him for being a jerk on my birthday to myself, my active duty military husband, and our friends, I closed the door and we went to Mulligans which was a 100% better experience. It makes me really sad because we frequent irish pubs in every city we visit and I have never ever been treated so poorly in my life, We were hoping he was just drunk, which is still not okay, but mostly I really hope his manager and the owner of this bar know how awful their door guy is, he definitely cost the bar several hundred dollars that night in food and drinks. Hopefully in the future the manager and owner can take care of this because they won't last long with someone turning customers away for literally no reason. Best of luck to McGraths in the future. read more

I'm a big fan of McGraths but I'm not a fan of bangers and mash. Although the majority of their food is Irish in style they have many things on the menu to suit a picky eater as myself. Their potato chowder is one of the best potato soups that I've had. Their burgers are decent and they have a haddock sandwich that I thoroughly enjoy. The service their is always great and the waitresses are super friendly. read more
