This is an AAHA accredited animal hospital and if you don't know what that means, google it. You need to know. They can accommodate my work schedule by allowing me to drop off for the day without charging an additional fee for that and that is huge, in my book. The doctor calls me during my workday to discuss the findings and this makes pickup quick and easy. Any concerns I have had were handled quickly and professionally. Lulu is getting comfy with this place and she was frightened at first. This tells me they are doing right by my Pittie. read more

To me, it does not seem like your dog having an upset stomach and diarrhea should cost you more money than you make in two weeks. They are very nice at McGehee, and helpful, however they are extremely overpriced. I still have antibiotics, probiotic capsules, pro biotic paste and tramadol pills in excessive amounts that cost a small fortune, left over. The bill was over $1500 and I got no answers as to what was wrong with my boy. It's unfortunate because I like the doctors and all of the employees but absolutely cannot afford to return here. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not go here. They are sweet, well meaning people but their staff and doctors are not well educated and make bad decisions that could put your animal at risk. If your animal is sick, go to Memphis Vet Specialists, Bluff City Specialists or better yet just make the trip to Mississippi State. My 4 year old dog is now in kidney failure because of a decision that was made by a doctor here that was unnecessary and actually incorrect. I didn't know it at the time so I gave the "ok" because I was trusting the "experts". That doctor also recommended my dog be put down and he's now being treated at Bluff City and is actually getting a little bit better. Unsure of how damaged his kidneys are at this point and if he will pull through or not but I have had a weird feeling about this office for a while and I should have listened to my gut. Sometimes we know more than we think we do. Don't blindly listen to doctors. Do your research. read more

I'm so impressed with the efficiency and thoroughness of this clinic. Dr. Gordon and Sarah, the vet assistant, were each so kind and educative. Clear instructions about medication and follow-up were communicated well, and we were also sent home with written resources. Due to covid, I remained in the car throughout the visit. Puppy was taken inside to be assessed and vaccinated. At first this bothered me, but honestly it was nice to just sit in the car. Discussions with staff occurred drive-thru style (through the car window) which felt strange but it proved to be effective. We look forward to future visits. After relocating to East Memphis, I was searching for a vet for my two rescue dogs, a 2 year old greyhound and a 5 year old labrador mix. A friend recommended McGehee's, so I took them there and have had all great experiences with them. I've heard that McGehee's has been a longstanding vet in the area with a good reputation, and from my experiences, I can understand why. Greyhounds as a breed have some particular needs, and the doctors at McGehee's were immediately familiar with those needs and took great care of my both my greyhound and my lab mix. They also caught something that could have easily been overlooked by a less thorough vet and it was caught early enough to avoid it turning into a much bigger (and more expensive) problem. The receptionists and staff were all extremely kind and friendly and I always got right in exactly at my appointment times which was important to me because I took time off from work to bring my dogs in. All in all I'd very easily recommend McGehee's to anyone who asked and I'll keep my dogs going there as long as I live in the Memphis area. read more

We switched to McGehee for our cats after a bad experience at Eastgate Animal, and after our first visit I knew we made the right choice. Our calico Trish is a furry little terrorist and they were so patient with her. She got a thorough exam, shots and grooming (under sedation). When I came to pick her up, her doctor met with me and gave me a "report card" on how her checkup had gone. The doctor and the techs were all so nice and understood how important my cats are to me, which means a lot. They're definitely all animal lovers. When we took our kitten Penny to be spayed they called regularly throughout the day to update us on her status and assure us that she was in good hands. When we picked her up she had two new toys in her carrier - she had grown attached to them during her stay, so they let her keep them! A few days after her surgery I was concerned about Penny's stitches, and even though they were about to close they let me rush her over and have her incision looked at. She was fine but they gave me a cone (at no charge) which I'm sure was more for my reassurance than for Penny's stitches. I know when I take my cats there that they're in good hands, which is comforting. Also the facilities are very clean, and there's a talking bird who lives in the waiting room and makes visits there interesting (unfortunately to my cats' terror). The location is great and there is plenty of parking. Being next door to Gibson's is also a bonus ;) read more

Above and beyond the call... My dog, Mr. B, just underwent his second tumor removal surgery in two weeks. The care he received was excellent (he's on the mend as I type). Additionally, I cannot say enough about the "bedside manner" of not only the physician (who came in to perform the surgery and called me with reassurance afterward--even though he was simultaneously tending to a family emergency of his own) but all of the staff, from the front desk folks to the fella who led him back from the waiting area. AND they're letting me spread the payments out over time so that cost is not prohibive in getting the necessary care for my boy. Thanks, y'all!! read more

Everyone there, in contrast to other vets, will listen to you and your concerns for your pet, candidly discuss the diagnosis & prognosis, & help you decide on a course of treatment. They have cared for 4 of my cats in the past (cured one of a highly-aggressive cancer with multiple complications that were solved, too), and are caring for 2 of my cats now. Best people ever. They literally saved my dogs life. I walked in out of the blue desperately needing help for my dog. The angel at the front desk recognized the emergency, welcomed me, said we will take care of you, and immediately started corralling her team of other angels. If I wasn't in such a state of shock I would have burst into tears right there. My 6yr old dog was dying with a freak unknown mass in his stomach that had to be removed, quickly. He went from a normal dog to deaths door in a matter of a couple of days. They did the surgery right away that morning, and it turned out to be an emergency gallbladder removal. It had swollen up so much that it had shifted his stomach over. Literally the next day after surgery he was a different dog and was able to walk again. We are now 5 days after surgery and all systems are a go. His tail is wagging again, his eyes are bright, and we are so immensely grateful. Everyone there, the vet, the technicians, the admin staff were just amazing to us. They kept in contact by phone many times during this process updating us throughout and called to check on him after. They are skilled, experienced, and most of all loving and compassionate. read more

about 5 years ago i moved into the area. at that time my female canines were 10 and 8. When i went for my first meeting without the dogs, the clinic showed me all thru the clinic without hesitation. everyone seems really nice and it turned out, they are. They answered all my questions. Good medical care and grooming. Boarding services ok, small facility without much run around space. better it seems for small dogs. Anyway that would be my only negative and yet that is not enough to keep me from using them for all my pet care needs. Just a few weeks ago, my oldest pet Idgy was 15 and had had been going down hill for several years. The McGehee Clinic was so understanding of not only my pets needs, but mine. I had never had to have a pet put to sleep. I could not believe how difficult it was. The staff was so kind to me, but more so they were gentle with Idgy and though we were in an exam room it was peaceful and they gave me time in the room to regroup before leaving.
