So impressed with Mark's Custom Exterior. This is the second time I have selected them to replace a roof on one of my homes. It is obvious that they are well run and the owners understand the importance of word of mouth, integrity, honesty and reputation in a small community. Their workers took great care of my property and took the time to cleaned up every night. They were all friendly, worked well together, and I could tell they enjoyed working for the company. When my brother ask me to recommend a roofing company to replace his roof, I had no hesitation in recommended MCE. I know they will take great care of him and his experience will be as outstanding as my own. MCE did an excellent job on our metal roof. Taylor explained the different options and spent time getting the roof bid out the way we wanted it done. Once the time came to get it installed, the crew arrived on time each day, worked hard, and was detailed in how they finished. They left no mess. My wife was VERY impressed with the trailer they used to haul away the old roofing materials. It raised up next to the roof so the crew didn't have to toss the junk far. I like to do business with locals whenever possible so I was looking for someone in the area when we decided to replace our 25 year old roof. I will say that right from the first meeting there was a difference from the other 5 people who bid the job. Mark was the only one who brought a ladder, climbed on the roof and really spent time looking it over, one other guy went up to the roof but was up there for less than 5 minutes. MCE was not the cheapest quote but they had good references which I checked personally and they seemed like the best choice. It was a very good choice, they showed up on time each of the 2 days they were here, they had enough of a crew to do the work needed and they really got after it. I've managed crews from 8 to 400 and I would gladly take any of these guys on a job. Alexi, the lead, was friendly and professional and explained what they were doing when I was out to see their progress. Our roof was covered in moss and the gutters were full of it, they cleaned it all up from the yard and driveway, which looks better than ever. You might find a cheaper bid but I don't think you will find a better one read more

My parents decided to not wait for my partner to come down and clean their roof (for free...) and pay these guys to come "shampoo" their roof (I use quotes because I don't understand why they use the word shampoo). They just moved to St. Helens a few months ago, and the people who lived in the house before did absolutely NO cleaning or anything (interior OR exterior... sheesh). And so there was a whole bunch of crap up there, huge clumps of moss and everything. My dad can't stand that. So at 9 o'clock sharp on the morn of August 5th, they come and ring the door bell and tell me (because I'm visiting my parents and they are at work) they are just gonna go ahead and get started. Awesome. A few hours go by and he tells me they are gonna take a lunch break real quick. Alright, cool. Then just one guy comes back to finish the roof (probably at least 25 years old) and gets it done by about 2... I think. I didn't catch the time, but it took a good 4 hours total. The younger guy who did pretty much all the work was the nicest guy ever. Some serious customer service skills. He called my dad by his name. That kind of little stuff really makes you stand out. He also told us when he was about to leave that he did the conditioning on the roof (which my parents did not want because it's like $200+ extra) and only just noticed that it said that on the paper, but didn't charge them for it. Sweet! Now the roof will be good for that much longer. I didn't get the guy's name (my dad even drove down here to tell them he did a great job. didn't bother to remember asking his name. Geez dad. I'm trying to write a sophisticated Yelp review here)! Oh, and he also even cleaned up most of the moss and dirt and other gunk from the yard/around the house which was really nice. My dad got home from work when he was putting away his tools, and started picking up the lawn and the guy told him not to worry about it and that he would clean it up for him. Sweet! We used Mark's Custom Exteriors to clean our roof. They roof itself looks great but the flashing around our skylights started leaking. We paid them before the first rain when we discovered the leak. After leaving several voicemails, I was able to get through and Mark came out. He caulked the flashing and stopped one of the two leak for free. Again after the next rain we found out that we still had a leak. After calling back several times to get help, I've given up. The crazy thing is I am happy to pay for them to do the work but they are unresponsive. The roof is still leaking and thankfully it's over a shower basin. Needless to say, I'll be calling other roofing companies to get it fixed. I wouldn't recommend them based on both my experiences and that they have a reputation for being more expensive than their competitors (true in my case as well: $1,700 for the cleaning). read more

I've used Mark's in the past for roofing work and I was somewhat satisfied with the entire process. I have to give them some credit. At least they showed up to bid the job. The downside was they weren't willing to do the work because "the roof was too far gone". I'm sorry but replacing a few damaged shingles does not make a roof too far gone. I would guess our roof has another 5-10yrs I keep up with the moss removal annually. They just lost our business when it comes time to do a tear off and replacement due to there unwillingness to do a small repair job. I was willing to even pay their "premium" prices. And believe me they are one of the most expensive contractors in Columbia county. read more

In October 2014 we hired Marks Custom Exteriors to clean and treat our roof for algae, They also cleaned our gutters. The work comes with a two year warranty. When they were done the roof looked great. Then in June our neighbor told us that one of our gutters wasn't working correctly. Rain was pouring off of our roof. I called Marks to ask them to come take a look. They promised to get back to me within a week. Nobody called. I called once a week for a month before I was told that they would have someone in the area to take a look. But that person never showed up. When I called again I was told that they were real busy and just didn't have time. Again I kept calling over and over again until finally in October 2015 I was told that since it had been a year we would have to pay to have the gutters cleaned again. We don't need them cleaned again. We need the one repaired. Not once did they call us to give us an up date on any plans to come evaluate our gutter. I realize that there is a lot of time between October and June. But we didn't know that the gutter wasn't working correctly after they cleaned our roof. Since we paid over $1600 for the service I feel that they could of come taken a look to tell up what the problem was and maybe give an estimate on the repair. Instead they blew us off and gave us the run-a-round for 4 months. If you are looking for a roof cleaning service, I suggest you shop somewhere else. While the roof looks great, the customer service is terrible and they don't respond to problems. read more
