I must confess, there's only one thing that would make me want to go to a McDonalds....the Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese (QPC). But nowadays I don't eat too many QPCs. The classic QPC, aka the "Quarter Cheese" is my idea of the basic cheeseburger. A 4:1 beef patty fried to perfection, lightly seasoned with salt & pepper, two slices of cheese, mustard, ketchup, raw onions, and pickles. Properly placed condiments create the perfect cheeseburger experience. Where can you get one? A McDonalds. So, I happen to be driving down from the hills and come upon this McDonalds on El Camino Real. It's 5pm, and the drive-thru and parking lot are empty. No business? I can fix this problem. I will go in and order a Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese and fries, and use the restroom. The young man who took my order was friendly and efficient. Quarter Cheese Burger and Large fries came out to $11.24. The interior of the place was clean and had modern decor. The only people eating inside were employees. The restroom appeared clean, but didn't smell clean. The restroom had no ventilation. So the air was stuffy and old. The mix of odors made me want to get out quick! Appearance & Cleanliness, Grade (2/5) (Parking Lot was clean, no litter. No one loitering around). Well, my food should be ready now, so I return to the counter to find a bag sitting there. Now, it is not OK to grab any bag off the counter, you should always ask. So, the lady working the front counter is also running drive-thru. She's speaking spanish in her mic, then points to my bag and asks if I want ketchup. I didn't get a thank you or anything. How was the food? The Quarter Pounder w/ Cheese was very good. I think McDonalds is going back to it's old methods of cooking on order, because that beef patty was juicy and rich in flavor. The burger seemed to have alot of pickles and onions. The large fries are a joke. It's like a medium size. The fries were okay, lightly crisp. Food, Grade (3/5) This food is not worth $11. For that price you should be thanking the customer for coming to your restaurant. It is not okay to work drive-thru and front counter at the same time. It's actually rude customer service. Word to the wise, don't order something at McDonalds without using a deal on the app or otherwise....because the list prices are quite high. Normally the best longstanding deals are BOGO quarter pounder, or BOGO double cheeseburger. Also there's free fries or like a general 20% discount, although can't combine deals. The quarter pounder is pretty good quality for fast food, ever since they switched over from frozen to fresh in 2018. We do prefer In N Out for fast food burgers, but it's usually too busy....and the more upscale options like Shake Shack are good but much pricier. Food is always freshly made, service is quick, and kids are satisfied, so McDonalds does work for a lot of situations. Convenient to order on the app for mobile pickup ahead of time, then they bring the food to your car. I've come here a few times for a quick bite while heading into work. Even before dawn the quickness of service here is unphased. I order and the coffee and sandwich (both hot) are ready for me as I pull up to the 2nd window. This is not something that can be said for all McDonald's. I have to comment on this location, I know typical McDonald's all over the world, what's up here? Every now and then, I really want a sausage and egg McMuffin with a hash brown. It's just one of those fast food hankerings I get since I was a teenager. This location makes breakfast items so fresh it's not over processed nor has it been sitting for long periods of time before a customer orders it. The egg in particular is consistently fresh here! I've brought some McMuffins to colleagues and they're questioning me on where I bought them. Ha! They really are very fresh here. I've been to locations all over, must admit, international locations are really cool. Better quality than U.S. over processed fast food items. This location is the first I've had such great quality sausage and egg McMuffins. Staff here have always been friendly and courteous, too. So the new Travis Scott meal is out...and what is that you ask? Well, first of all he's an American Rapper who's teamed up with McDonald's to sell merchandise and get his own meal on the meu for a limited time. And he's making bank too, charging $90 for a chicken McNugget pillow and other equally expensive merchandise. Anyways, his meal is really just a quarter pounder with cheese with bacon and a side of bbq sauce if you really boil it down. Yes, it comes with Sprite (he's pushing that too) but I changed mine to iced tea and it comes with medium fries. Burger itself is standard and came out exactly how I ordered it with extra onions and mayo. Great, so the only downside was the cold McNuggets....hence 3 stars. Did a mobile order, which one could expect to help make it speedier, but still took over 20 minutes, and not only that but they forgot several burgers in the order that we didn't catch until we got home. Both employees and manager were very unhelpful and didn't seem to care that there were delays and issues. This has opened the door to me coming back as a customer to the franchise. The San Carlos McDonald's is quaint, has public bathrooms not yet locked, parking lot, and drive-thru. This review is for service only. On 2/29/24 at about 5:47 pm, I used the kiosks to order a fish filet and large fries. The food was not for me. While waiting for my order, I watched the employees work. Most of the employees were older Latin women and one young female Latin girl. I saw a woman making fries and one female in the back cooking. The one in the back was working nonstop. She was multi tasking and moving fast. The female cooking the fires was constantly making fries and doing other duties. There was another woman at the front making sure orders were being made and called. All of the staff were working very hard. It's not common to find hard workers like what I saw today. Their manager should be proud of them and recognize their hard work. If they don't, the good ones always find other jobs.
