The Long Version: My husband and I had lunch here. We shared a cheeseburger ($9.50), a chicken sandwich ($12.95) and an order of fries ($5). The cheeseburger was a smash burger with cheese, lettuce, pickles, onions and their burger sauce. There was too much sauce for my liking and the meat was too salty for my tastes, but other than that the burger was ok. The meat was smashed really thin and the edges were crispy. We enjoyed the chicken sandwich more. The chicken sandwich had a breaded chicken breast, coleslaw, pickles and chicken sauce. We got ours medium spice. It wasn't spicy at all, lol. The chicken was a good thickness and was tender and moist. We enjoyed this more than the cheeseburger. I liked that the bun they use is a plain bun without seeds in it. The buns were soft. The fries were a good portion size. I'm glad we shared one portion. They were hot and crispy and had the skins on. They were regular cut, not skinny, but not too thick. You order at the cash register, pay and they give you your order number. When your food is ready they call out your number and bring it to your table if you're dining in. When you're done, you throw out your own garbage and stack the empty tray on top of the garbage area. Service was pleasant and the food didn't take long. There are seats inside to dine in and also seats on the patio out front. There's a single universal washroom that is wheelchair accessible for the entire restaurant. Since the restaurant is small, I feel this was sufficient. It was clean. Street parking or paid parkade parking only. Review #187 (2025)

The Long Version: I love food trucks so when I was driving home and spotted The Eight O'Nine parked at the lot at Scott Street and Stirling Avenue I knew I had to look into what it was all about. They opened recently in 2025. At first I thought the name of the food truck was referring to a time, as in 8:09pm, but when I looked at the menu and saw references to Dominican-style foods like Yaroa, I knew that 809 referred to the area code for the Dominican Republic. Very clever naming. My husband and I made it out there on a Saturday mid-afternoon and shared a smash burger and fries ($15). I love how their listed prices are inclusive of taxes. The burger was delicious. It was 2 smashed beef patties, cheese, pickles, grilled onions, ketchup and mustard. It was juicy and flavourful. I would have enjoyed some lettuce and tomatoes in the burger, but I've been finding that many smash burger joints don't serve their burgers with these fresh ingredients, likely to save costs related to wastage since these ingredients spoil faster. Anyway, I still enjoyed the burger. The fries were hot and crispy and had a bit of seasoning on them. The fries portion was pretty small. I was hoping for more fries, lol. Service was friendly. There's some picnic benches in the lot where the food truck is parked, but we took our food to a nearby park. We walked there, but there is street parking nearby. I'm not sure if you're allowed to park in the lot or if it's just for food trucks. It's in the same lot as La Troca, Si Senior's food truck. I want to try their chicken po'boy sandwich next time. My girlfriend and I went last Saturday and honestly I was a little underwhelmed. The burger was impressive but still didn't look like the one in the picture but besides that the burger felt like it was missing something. There was no zip, no special taste to it. I mean like it was good but a bit basic taste. Was hoping to be wowed but just wasn't happening. In a nut shell, a good burger but not a great one(taste wise). And the price for 1 Vatican burger combo and 1 bacon cheese burger combo was alil under 40 bucks. Not to crazy now a days but there are better burgers in the city. Service was good and place was clean so good job there.

I ordered the impossible burger (veg option) and the hubby asked for the spiciest burger on the menu. I forget what was recommended to him, but it had crispy jalapenos, and he said it was very hot, but good. We also ordered two fries on the side. We ended up bringing one home and reheating it later in the oven, and they were still delicious. The fries were very good, but on the saltier side. It also tasted like they were brined in vinegar before cooking? The hubby got the poutine and I did not like the gravy at all. It was a thick dark gravy, and there was no seasoning to it. I do not recommend the poutine. He liked it though. I devoured the impossible burger. It was great. Restaurant is small, and with the two of us and 2 small kids (who decided they didn't want to eat anything), the seating was a bit odd, with mostly tall tables and chairs with no backs. There were lower tables by the main entrance, but it was too cold to sit there with the door constantly opening. Most people were taking their meals to go. I'm glad I tried out Burger Priest finally. The food hit the spot.

They had a location on Elgin St but it closed down, so their only other location is in Manotick. My husband and I popped in for a late lunch. We ordered a Cherry Bomb Burger ($9.50) and a Chicken Sandwich ($9.50) and made one of them a combo, so for an additional $5.50 we got fries and a fountain drink. We shared everything. Overall we enjoyed everything. The Cherry Bomb Burger was not spicy at all, so don't be deterred if you aren't into spice. It literally just tasted like a bacon cheeseburger to me, lol. Like zero spicy kick, but the sauce did have a unique taste to it, which I can't quite describe, but I wouldn't describe it has hot or spicy, haha. The beef patty was thin. Smashed burgers seem to be all the rage these days so I guess that's what they're going for here. It was a tad too salty for my tastes, but still good (and it wasn't as salty as the burger at Umbrella Burger). I feel it could have benefited from some lettuce and tomatoes though. The Chicken Sandwich was good. The breading was very crispy and some parts were a bit too hard for my liking, but I still enjoyed it. It came with aioli, shredded lettuce and pickles. It's real chicken breast meat and was a good size. The fries are shoestring fries, my favourite type of fries. They were crispy and delicious. We got root beer as our fountain drink. It was unremarkable. I like that the straw was a bendable paper straw. It was my first time seeing one. The decor is retro diner. They have some booths and some tables. Some of the seats are those old school stools you see at old diners. They even had a copy of the day's newspaper available for diners to read. How cool is that? Over the counter where you order they have like a marquee sign highlighting the hot dogs they have, as well as available drinks. The decor is definitely fun. Despite their retro decor, they have a very modern self-ordering kiosk. Lol. But you can also order from staff at the counter, which is what we did. Service was pleasant. Washrooms are down a steep flight of stairs. There are 4 private rooms labelled WC (water closet) that are gender neutral. Street parking only. Review #220 (2025)

It is also a very clean establishment booths and tables to sit indoors. We sat in and ordered 4 combos which were done in a completely reasonable time. I ordered the paris burger, which is a new favorite. Toppings included poached pears and brie cheese that made this the perfect burger for me. It was not too sweet just the perfect balance. Others had the Louisiana and New Orleans burger which they liked! The fries were absolutely delicious. It is $3 to upgrade to sweet potatoes fries but they were great. You definitely won't go wrong with regular fries too! Thick cut and cooked to perfection. If you order a combo it comes a soda pop with free refills. Considering the burgers are cooking in house I found the pricing very reasonable. Thank you world burger for showing me more of what Ottawa has to offer!

Now looking at the other reviews it seems dissatisfaction is a pattern, very unfortunate as I think this place could have potential. If I were you I'd stick to The Works. Great food, Great prices.
