This is one of my favorite stops in Ottawa. Whether you need Ane ice cream, bakeshop or coffee fix,…read morethey got you covered. High quality ice cream with rotating flavours. Yum. And many spots to sit outside in nice weather. Baked goods are hard to resist. Small but mighty selection. Everything is good! Coffee is reliably well made, and the cozy seating area is great on a cold day. What I love about inside is the low key quirkiness, from old hair salon chairs to snow shoe art, I usually spot something I've never noticed before. They do also have a small light lunch type of menu, and anything I've ordered from that has been tasty. Staff are top notch - well versed on the product, always genuine, and efficient. It's a little gem hidden away in the neighborhood. In summer, parking can be a challenge, and the ice cream line looks daunting. But good things come to those who wait, and the line moves at an efficient pace.

I purchased half a pound of coffee. To go. The lineup was out the door and down the steps for ice cream! Cyclists and joggers made their way here. Service was courteous, and we appreciated the fact that an employee came out to wash down the tables periodically.

The Bower Coffee - Baked goods. They are all from suppliers (Adam Bakes, Art-Is-In and Strawberry Blonde to name a few).

TL;DR/The Short Version: Independent coffee shop in…read moreWestboro. Minimalist interior. Good selection of baked goods and they also sell coffee, lol ;) The Long Version: The Bower Coffee Company opened up about a year ago in the summer of 2024. Usually I like trying out new businesses that open up in my neighbourhood, but admittedly I'm not a coffee connoisseur. I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference between a $50 cup of Kopi Luwak and a cup of Folgers instant coffee, lol. So coffee shops don't really excite me. However, I recently learned that Bower Coffee Company sells baked goods from a business called Adam Bakes. I've been wanting to try treats from Adam Bakes for a while now, but they are only open on Saturdays 8am-12pm and not in my neighbourhood, so their limited hours have prevented me from trying them. I didn't realize that they also sold their baked goods to other businesses for resale, so when I discovered this, I planned a little coffee date for my husband and I at The Bower Coffee Company :) I chose a Cinnamon Swirl Blondie from Adam Bakes ($4.85) and my husband chose a Peanut, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip cookie from Art-Is-In Bakery ($5.25) and we got a regular 12 oz coffee ($3.25). The coffee tasted like any other coffee to me (unsurprising, lol). My husband is more of a coffee connoisseur than I am and his comment was it was a bit too watery, but otherwise ok. I loved the Blondie. It was rich and I think there's cheesecake swirled into it because it had creamy bits to it. It had a potent cinnamon flavour. I really enjoyed it and so did the hubster. I ended up hauling my butt out to Adam Bakes the following Saturday morning to try their other offerings, which weren't available at Bower Coffee. Adam Bakes will get its own review. I noticed that the prices are cheaper buying directly from Adam Bakes than at Bower Coffee, but I guess that's not surprising. The cookie was unremarkable in my opinion, but the hubby enjoyed it. It had whole peanuts in it as well as peanut butter and chocolate chips. It was soft and chewy, and the whole peanuts gave it the occasional crunch. Service at Bower Coffee was great. The barista asked me for the Blondie if I wanted a centre piece or an edge piece. I know some people like the crispiness of edge pieces, but I prefer the softness of centre pieces, so I was happy to be asked. The decor is clean lines minimalist. It's not a huge space, but has a decent amount of tables. It was bustling on a Sunday morning. Overall, a nice place for a coffee date, albeit a bit pricey in my opinion, but I get it, everything is expensive these days :/ We walked there, but it's street parking only for those coming by car. Overall it was good, but the sandwich was just a sum of its parts in my opinion and I felt it was something I could have made at home. The scone was good, but a bit too sweet for my liking. I got the Chicken Crunch Wrap ($9.75), which had real pieces of chicken breast, granny smith apples, lettuce, tomatoes and cranberry mayo. Ingredients were fresh, and it was good, but when I eat out I want something I can't easily make at home. I also got a Cheddar and Bacon Scone ($3.25). It was a little flatter than I expected for a scone, but was good. It was just a bit too sweet for my liking for a savoury scone. It had bits of real bacon and real cheddar cheese. They sell Maverick Donuts as well, in addition to their own scones, cookies, muffins and cinnamon buns. They sell sandwiches and also coffee and tea. It's a cute place. I would have enjoyed my sandwich more if it had some oomph or flair to it that would make it special and more exclusive to Morning Owl. 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up. Service was friendly. It's a takeout place only. No place to sit. They have their own parking lot with free parking.

It was very tasty (not overpowering with the sweetness like a lot of other places). I was really happy to see a full grill for made-to-order breakfast and lunch items. My husband and I had breakfast here together on a day that we were both off from work. While it was not fancy, it was very affordable and tasted good. Queensview Cafe is located on the main floor of an office building. However, it's open to the public, you don't need to work in the building to access it. It is hidden away around the back of the building and is not visible from the street, so unless you're looking for it, you'll likely never just stumble upon it. Well, unless you actually work in the building or are going there for business. Anyway, y'all know I love those hidden spots! My husband had the full breakfast ($7.50) which came with 2 eggs, toast, home fries and your choice of meat (bacon, ham or sausage), and a large coffee ($2.50). I got a breakfast sandwich ($4.50). My sandwich came on a toasted English muffin and had bacon, egg and cheese in it. I forgot to say no butter on the bread, so it was generously buttered, which some may like, but I prefer my bread dry. It was too greasy for my liking, but that was on me. Otherwise, the sandwich was tasty. The bacon was crispy and the cheese was well melted. My husband liked his dish. He enjoyed the home fries which were crispy and nicely seasoned, although he noted they were a bit heavy-handed with the salt. I had a cube and I would agree. His bacon was also crispy. His eggs were over-hard like he requested. He has no complaints about his coffee. The place is very spacious and feels even bigger due to the high ceilings and tall glass windows. Very nice ambiance, especially for an office building cafeteria. It's open to the public, so you don't have to work in the building to access it (like you don't need a building pass or anything like that). Service was courteous. And when we left they thanked us for supporting their business. Their hours are limited. They aren't open weekends or evenings, so their target demographic really is the office building workers. They sell lunch as well and have items like burgers, fries, soup and sandwiches with also reasonable prices. I regret not knowing about this place when I worked in the area. Free parking is available in the office building parking lot. (30)

The flavour and sweetness was the right amount (perfect for my Asian tastebuds). The drinks were also really good! It was pretty busy inside but there's plenty of seating (might not be great if you want to chill and study but great for hanging out with friends). The Dubai Chocolate was decadent while the Pistachio Rose was nutty with a delicate taste of floral.
