This was the first almost completely automated McDonald's I've seen. You walk into a small area with 2 large kiosks where you use a computer screen to order. I finally saw someone order from a cashier but it seemed the exception. I placed my order and took the ticket it spit out-or, I thought so. I'm waiting and waiting while others get their food. I help someone else get someone's attention to get a sauce and I asked about my food. A manager takes my ticket from the machine and it wasn't one for my order. He gets it straightforward out and gives me a placard to put on my table for them to deliver the food. They bring the food but it's missing a coffee so I went back up to get that. Food was good, service was, too. The machine had a ticket from earlier that someone didn't take that I ended up with made the whole thing confusing. If this is the future, I will be hungry. I use my app when I go for fast food and, even, have used the ordering kiosks before. All in all, I want people there to help when the machines mess up. We've had our share of Big Macs and Filet O Fish and these were inedible: the buns were thin and dry, a half slice of cheese and a teeny squirt of sauce on the Filet O Fish. I rarely go into this McDonalds, as I'm usually heading from Reno to Vegas, or vice versa. I either head through the drive through, or use my app to order ahead. I have no complaints about this Mcdonalds. My order has always been right. Wait times have just been moments. We ordered online from the road but it still took 10 mins for the food. I have a feeling they don't start the order till they see the whites of your eyes because it's not busy. Do NOT order the "spicy sausage egg McMuffin" It's not spicy sausage. It's some nasty stinky inedible orange sauce they literally and too generously slather on both sides of the English muffin. I can handle spice but that stuff is awful. I had to take the egg and sausage out and eat it without the muffin. So gross. I have serious wonders about some folk. This is a McDonald's. Not Duke's Steak house or Battista's Hole in the Wall. Giving your run-of-the-mill Donald a one star rating is weak. How wonderful it's available in the middle of the desert. Order your two cheeseburgers, a fry, a coke. Eat it here and rest your car or get it to go and east it elsewhere. Either way, it's pretty straight forward. Btw, Nevada law enforcement really frowns on eating in your car. The restaurant is clean, plenty of tables and usually a clean restroom. I read the other reviews and giving my impression of this McDonalds. Not all McDonald are the same. This one surprised the me. Let's start with the bad. Both times I've been here on my way to and from Tahoe I did mobile orders with curb side pick up. Both times took a longer than others. So why is this, well it seems the they make everything on the spot because they are busy and everything tastes great. Horrible and slow service but only game in town. I hate using the kiosk and the drive through is too small. My truck rubs every curb in the drive through. Only two kiosks to order and one was broken. Screens were not clean. All trash cans were over flowing with trash and multiple employees just ignored it. One employee was on her break, sitting outside on the floor next to an over flowing trash can. 20 minutes late, when I got my food, she had returned to work and never emptied any trash. Things were even slow. I recommend going to port of subs nearby. That's what I will do when passing through Hawthorne. read more

On US 95, civilization is often miles apart. We arrived in Hawthorne a few days ago after a ~90 minute drive from Hawthorne with not a lot in-between. In these situations, even a McDonald's looks good, at least for a snack. This McDonald's is in a convenient location whether you're on the bypass or coming through town. Gayle and I did drive-thru for some ice cream cones for the road. Our treat was so-so in taste, but refreshing nonetheless. Service was a little slow, mostly due to employee chattiness. But then, we weren't in a hurry for the long road ahead. Tip: If you're coming through during the week and you'd like burger and fries (and more) as a upgrade from McDonald's, Pepper's Place is only a few blocks away. If you want to avoid the golden arches entirely, the Hawthorne Rest Stop (across the street) has decent bathrooms. read more

I ordered through the app for table service. As I waited I watched people come in, order, eat and leave. After 10-15 minutes I went to the counter and asked for my food. Macdonald is a place you can count on getting something to eat quickly. Especially if you are in the middle of nowhere. (That's the first food, right?) I understand we all make mistakes and this time, they forgot to put 20 chicken nuggets... ok not a big deal. We picked up our order and left, already on the road and realized food was missing. So we called to get refund. They said we had to come back and they can't do refund. That's not true. Any restaurant can do refund if they made a mistake and actually a manager always apologize. This is the perfect place for a bathroom stop in the middle of nowhere. The bathroom was clean--though the floor in the main restaurant needed attention. The line was excruciatingly long. Instead, use the auto-ordering kiosk. A great benefit is that the restaurant is on the corner of the town and the alt truck route. "We are in the middle of nowhere."-cashier. With that said; the food was good, line fast and those folks in the back working like a well oiled machine. When I asked for an Orange Fanta the cashier kind of looked at me like was speaking Greek. It's a small town. This is the only fast food joint available that's open fairly late. The workers are absolutely the kindest and the facilities are clean. I've been in Hawthorne for a week now and have gone here a few times. There may be times there were delays, slightly slower than expected service for food, but they're also fairly short staffed. They're doing amazing with what resources they have available to them. Food is, well, McDonalds. Depends on your flavor palate whether you think it's good or not, but it's consistent with every other McDonalds I've been to. I can see the tirade of angry comments from hangry people that only created an account to complain. I hope the one post you made just to tear down people made you feel better. Being the only true fast food place in town, one would think they would put more effort into their service. The drive-thru takes forever even if there is no one ahead of you. I've received cold coffee on numerous occasions. I'm a big fan of McDonald's coffee in general so when I received my first cold cup, I was not happy... The staff is hit and miss. The most disgusting McDonald's I've ever visited in my 50 years. Where do I start... flies everywhere inside, women's restroom didn't have toilet paper (they ran out), men's room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months, they were out of 1/2 the sodas, ice cream machine down. Service was good. The workers were nice. They actually looked embarrassed. There was food on the counter with flies on it, and one of the customers told them they should cover the food with a napkin, and the clerk admitted that they really needed to do something about the flies. The food tasted off. Fries tasted stale, buns also stale, McNuggets didn't seem fried thoroughly.
