And then my food looked and tasted like it was sitting there a long time. I'm from out of town but visit this area fairly regularly. I was headed back to 80 for the drive home and decided to stop. This was a mistake. I stopped the evening of March 28th. Thursday night at just before 7pm. Simple order of two regular hamburgers, fries, and a drink. Standard Mickey D fare. I was in the drive through. Service was awful from the standpoint of the 13 minute wait to get served and I was only one away from the ordering kiosk so not like there were 50 people ahead of me. Plus, I used the app to preorder my food. It was efficient when I told them my mobile order number but that's where it ended. I sat and sat watching my expected arrival time (four+ hours away) go up and up on my GPS. Finally get my food. Drive off, get on 380, take a drink of my Coke. Only it's Cherry Coke which I did not order. The lid did not have any of the buttons pressed like the "other" or something so they didn't hand me the wrong one I assume. I don't really like cherry but I didn't feel like turning around and going through that again. Hamburgers were ok and done properly but then I had some of my fries. You'd think with 13 minutes to prepare my order they could have actually cooked them. The fries were raw in about half of them, just brown (closer to white like potatoes are) slightly on the outside with the inside mushy. All in all, not a terrific experience. I think they can improve on what happened to me. At least I hope so. But I doubt I'll return on my next pass through town to find out. read more

You can also order at the kiosk and pay with cash at a register, or indeed just go to a register and pay for your order as in the past. No one goes to McDonald's for gourmet food. No one goes to McDonald's for top notch service or to be impressed by anything I think but this particular location of McDonald's seems to go above and beyond to be unimpressive. Since moving back to Cedar Rapids, a little over a month ago and school starting my son has asked us to go through the drive-through in this McDonald's numerous times for a snack and more than 3/4 of the time when we try and order ice cream we are told their machine is not working.- which I'm not sure if that is the old it's being cleaned or it's just not working and then disrepair. Through we were told we don't have ice cream we only have milkshakes, which completely confused in Portas. We're not sure the difference I guess that's two different machines. We were unaware of that. Either way we have decided that we will be going the extra few miles out of the way to go to a different location and would recommend anyone hoping to have better service a better experience and who might actually want a hot fudge sundae or any sort of ice cream would do the same. read more

Midday, about 6:10. I head 13 minutes to the closest McDonald's craving something sweet. I decide cookies. For I know no matter what if done right, those cookies would sate the monster inside me. I pull into the plaza and see the McDonalds, so close I could touch it. My eagerness left me as soon as I sight the drive through, about 14 cars waiting. They were gnawing at each others backs waiting for their succulent nourishment. I was having second thoughts. "Maybe I should turn back?" No I can't. I couldn't dare. I expect to be there for 30+ minutes but to my surprise, it only took about 15 minutes for me to order and pull into the reserved drive thru, and only 10 more for me to get my fresh totes of cookies. This is one of the Mc Donald's which has the newer interior theme, in my opinion this new makeover of mc Donald looks good, clean and have some premium feeling to it. The service was fast and bathrooms were 2.5 out 5 of cleanliness. And I normally look at the counter where they pack the meals and this store it looks clean and hygienic. The water fountain had some liquid spilled on the floor they had the wet floor sign up but the floor was not mopped. Over all decent experience visiting this location. read more

We were traveling through the night and were really looking forward to some hot food with everything else on the road being closed, but was very disappointed when we arrived at this "fast-food" restaurant at 11:45 (15 mins before closing) and nobody took our order at the drive thru. The lights were on, the menu and drive thru lights were on and we could see workers inside sitting in the dinning area on their phones. We also tried the doors to the dinning room but they were locked too. We sat in the drive thru for 10 mins before we decided to go to Casey's across the street. read more

I went to McDonald's for breakfast through the drive-thru and ordered a: bacon egg and cheese mcgriddle, large orange juice, and a small coffee. We paid and then got to the window to get our food and they said: "Sorry, we don't have orange juice. Do you want something else?" And I said: "Why couldn't you have let me know that beforehand? And no, I will just take a refund?" To which the lady shut the door and came back and said: "Well, would you like a medium instead?" And I said: "I thought you were out? And no, I just wanted a large." To which she shut the door and came back to the window with a large orange juice after having me wait, while I watched her switch out the orange juice at the machine inside. Experiences like these really make me question humanity. So unfortunate that some people can't just be honest to their customers. She could've had just told me the truth and that she needed to switch it out of the machine first, but she chose to try and avoid the situation with a lie. Bad experience. read more

Our flight at the airport was canceled so we ate breakfast here close to the airport. The dining room was recently renovated and was cool looking and clean. The staff couldn't be more friendly. Food was very fresh and hot. As we ate several staff checked on us to see if we needed anything. Then the general manager came by and ask as well. We told him our situation and talked to him a long time. These people are very helpful and nice. Fact is, it's the best McDonald's we've ever been to. I can tell they take pride in their jobs and care about people. You just don't find places like this much more. Looks like they have made some significant changes in the last year. This is also the first 5 star I think I've rated at any fast food restaurant. read more

This is the worst McDonald's I've ever been to. And that is saying a lot. The employees were nice enough but the food looks like it was thrown together in two seconds. We ordered some fish sandwiches for Lent and some shakes. The cheese and fish were hanging off the edge of the bread and the tartar sauce was almost laughable, I don't even know how to describe it. The shakes were melted and it was obvious they had been sitting for a while. The only reason this "restaurant" gets two stars is for the friendly lady taking our order. read more

This place is literally horrible and horrible customer service. The workers look like they are depressed and don't like to work even though they barely have any customers. You would think a lot of downtime could make someone happy but I guess not! I got some water and then asked can I get a refill on water and the lady said they don't do refills and then proceed with saying oh my fucking god! My thing is, WATER IS FREE! I've been here many times. This is a McDonald's. You know what to expect: McConsistency and that means McFast McFood. When I've visited the place is always clean. I suspect there is a lot of staff turnover but that's normal. Mostly I've used the drive through. Skimming through the reviews here, there are some complaints. I don't know if they're legitimate or not, but if you went to a McDonald's drive through between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., chances are high you're drunk and surly and the employees are going to be tested. Again, my experiences with the staff has been positive. One person takes my order, reviews it at the window, takes my money, and I pick up at the second window. It's particularly at that second window that I've had positive experiences. I know I've dealt with at least two managers who were genuinely friendly. Think about that for a minute: they work at a McDonald's near an airport and an interstate. Granted this ain't Chicago, but it's busy enough. Give them credit for keeping a good attitude. Maybe you'll have a bad experience, but if it starts going sideways, pause and consider why that may be. Perhaps it's someone coming in late or not at all due to sick family and they're scrambling to keep things straight? That could be you or me. You know what to expect from McDonald's. This place meets those expectations most of the time and does it amiably. read more

So we say we'll just wait. 13 minutes later, at 5:03 am, a woman starts taking our order, but then another woman rudely cuts in to say, "We're not open." Not a good experience.
