I honestly don't remember. Between looking at my photos and looking at the website/online menu, I can usually guess what I order. Not this time. Let's take a journey as I try to remember. Based on the photo below, it appears that one of the things I ordered was a BLT but its on a hotdog bun. Yup, I am not making that up. That's exactly what it looks like. The other item I ordered was another BLT maybe with chicken instead of bacon? A CLT also on a hotdog bun. Weird. I couldn't even begin to guess what the other stuff on the menu would look like once served. Tacos on a hamburger bun? Pizza topped with ice cream? Who knows! The restaurant is located in CampusTown in Peoria. This area is full of eager college freshmen dodging traffic, the worst intersection in history and a ton of local restaurants. CampusTown specifically has a countless number of places to eat and Steak & Fries is one of them. The name is generic, the food is served in non-traditional ways and the taste was... pretty good. That I do remember. My girlfriend and I were taken back by the unusual way food was presented and then we were taken back by how good it was despite the oddity of it all. You can see on their website that our unique experience isn't so unique and is just who they are. If you know me, I am a fan of oddities. I've done some strange stuff over my lifetime and tries even stranger things. Nothing illegal. Just going against the grain to try old things in new ways and new things in old ways. So, I have a small soft spot for this visit as it was definitely one to reflect on and laugh about. I've kind of gone off my normal trail with this post. I left it to the group to pick the place as I like to take a backseat to having to be the one who always picks. The group ended up picking Potbelly Sandwich Shop as we all hadn't been there before. This was perfect as it was also on my list of places to try out. I don't remember much from this visit but I will try and piece together what I do remember. There was something in the air as I was hungry but nothing at Potbelly ended up sounding like something I was craving. With that in mind, I did end up getting some chili, a bag of chips, and a soda for my meal. Not the entire full experience but since they do specialize in soups as well as other things, I think it counts as trying a place out. The chips were a national brand so those were as delicious as expected. The chili was your standard chili. A little better than normal but seeing as it was your basic chili without any special flavorings, it did it's job. If you look below, you will see a photo of Tim and I. In said photo, I look pissed or upset about something. Looks can be deceiving as this was not the case. Tim and I have known each other since pre-school and have butted heads a million times over the years. But when we butt heads, we do it in a comical way where its not serious. We get all huff-n-puff and argue with each other but it's more entertainment for us than actually arguing. I think maybe we've actually argued less than the number of fingers on our hand (figuring you have all your fingers). I decided to include it just as a fun glimpse at a side of my friendships that no one really gets to see. As for Potbelly, it's a nice place to eat. I would place it in the same class as Panera or Noodles and Company. An upscale subway, if you want to think of it like that. I've been wanting to go back as their menu does look appetizing and they have some sandwiches that are absolutely delicious looking. Funny enough, my sister and I almost came here for her birthday lunch but she ended up opting for Tequila's instead. Someday Potbelly, someday.

Luckily, the day came where the one in Peoria was built and opened it's doors to customers. Erin, Matt and I stopped in after a day exploring Bloomington-Normal and we were famished. It was a first for all of us and we were excited to try out the place that has rave reviews and good word-of-mouth. We luckily got to Chick-fil-a when there wasn't a long line in the drive thru or a packed lobby. Busy, yes, but not uncomfortably so. This place was swamped with people for months after it opened. We must've gotten extremely luckily with our timing. In the years since this visit, I still remember how incredible delicious the food here is. I don't remember what we all ordered but we all loved with what we got. That I do remember. The chicken sandwich was just what I needed after dragging my friend and girlfriend around Bloomington-Normal for the afternoon. I ended up coming back in 2018 with another friend who never had it and it was every bit as delicious as it was back in late-2012. I typically keep my reviews of nationwide chains short (barring some crazy story to share) due to many factors and this one is no exception. All there is to say about Chick-fil-a is that it is incredibly delicious chicken at a decent price. My only critique is that it leaves you wanting more after you finish your meal. Its that good.

Very good burgers made in plain site on a large flat grill. Milkshakes made from real hard ice cream and some of the best chili this side of Cincinnati. Of course that's most peoples opinion. The food here is average for a SS. I've had pretty good luck with the service. Just depends on the time of night. Being they are open 24/7 and right across the river from downtown Peoria, it can get real busy between 12-3am.
