Entering a hardware store isn't exactly one of my most favourite pastimes for two reasons:…read more 1) It reminds me of my childhood, when either my mum or dad (or both, if I was really lucky) would drag me in to find some form of tool (dad), or a gardening implement (mum), or indeed a combination of the both. Happy, happy times. 2) I always feel a bit of an eejit (as they say over here) walking into these types of places, namely because I haven't the foggiest idea what the heck I require in a hardware store, plus I always feel they're one for the men (yes ladies, feel free to fight back - I'm totally not a feminist whatsoever). I'm not really into six-in-one pen knives, nor do I have a notion as to what hinges are required for what, etc etc. I'm basically totally out of my comfort zone. However, on this occasion, I did decide to venture into Stewart and Gibson's. It looked a bit less hardware store-y than many of the hardcore hardware stores I've been in. I mean, it had scented candles and board games, for Pete's sake. In saying that, there was an entire section dedicated to fishing (my forte...not), as well as a home decor / furniture department, both of which masked out the doable aforementioned elements of the store. Eeeek. Seeing my concerned face, and bizarre movements (the 'I need to get out of here' kind), one of the shop assistants asked if I was ok. Yep, ok, I most certainly...was not. Course, I didn't tell him that. I just smiled sweetly, nodded and tried not to imagine what he was thinking at that precise moment in time. Edging ever closer to the door, I managed to subtly and inconspicuously exit the store without drawing too much attention to myself. Phew. Despite not being my scene, Stewart and Gibson is a great hardware store with plenty going on. Four stars I reckon...

They have all the things you need to start attempting some amateur house maintenance jobs and everything you would need for doing outside the home up as well, with a range of strimmers, lawnmowers etc. This is where things get a bit more diverse. There is an entire section dedicated to all sorts of children's toys and games, there are a range of bicycles for all ages, a section dedicated to fishing and an upstairs area dedicated to furniture! This is your stereotypical unkempt hardware store, and they are a dying breed.Frankly I like a disparate and disorganised selection as it reflect how I am as a person, so i hope places like this continue to flourish!

I generally ate too much, ran around like a lunatic, bounced at the bouncy castle and was sick later on that night. What every 7 year old aspires to! I've been there in more recent times as part of a football team and things are inevitably a lot more small and dilapidated than my childhood memories remember them. The indoor playing area is in fair condition, with facilities for basketball, badminton and football as well as catering fro parties and group meetings. The centres football pitches out the back of the centre leave something to be desired however. They aren't kept in great condition, and in winter they become a mess, but I suppose this is more due to a lack of funds to invest! At least the centre has this range of facilities, and provides a good service to the people of the region.

It is used to hold concerts, sports competitions and events of all kinds. Recently i was here for a concert. The interior is large and spacious with adequate seating facilities for the people who were present. The toilet facilities were exceptionally clean and tidy and so was the front foyer. There is on site parking however the car park can often be full. There is additional on street parking available. The hall can be hired for events - i am unsure of the price but i know this can be done. Nice little centre which is well used by the community

I immediately thought of the Repair Lounge down to the their catchy radio ads. First up, it's pretty easy to find, opposite the junction of Tates Avenue on the Lisburn Road. If you're driving park on one of the many side streets rather than trying to get a space on the Lisburn Road. The shop itself is minimal, you walk in and you are presented with platformed area, don't let this put you off, that's where the phone fixers sit. When I went in (about 3pm on a Monday) the two guys were noticeably busy, one on the phone and one in the middle of dissecting an iPhone but I waited patiently. Once they were free I asked how much and how long it would take to get my phone screen repaired. They then explained to me that it varied from £100 - £140 depending on the quality of the glass used for the screen. This didn't put me off as I expected it to be in that area. What did put me off was the wait - they explained that they had a huge back log of phones to repair and with Monday being delivery day I couldn't get it repaired straight away. This wait made me go somewhere else, but the experience wasn't bad at all. I understand that it's a skilled job to fix these devices and that Monday is their busiest day - especially after all the weekend smashes! Cool set up and really knowledgeable staff - I'll be back no doubt!
