    Ice Rink

The ice rink was beautiful and scenic to look at with the city in the background. I came on a cold January day and was in aw of the beauty of the rink and the park itself. I didn't actually skate, but was able to watch everyone having fun and looked like a well put together ice rink. Definitely worth viewing.

Surrounding by Chicago iconic building and ice skating with all the holiday vibes around the ice rink are definitely one of the to do list in the end of the year. It's also the best way to say goodbye to the whole year and celebrate the new year. Highly recommended!

Not very big in sq ft, so come prepared to share with several other patrons, but the staff is nice and the COVID procedure of contactless appointment reservation times was appreciated to limit the number of people on the rink at once. There's safety personnel on the ice to make sure you don't break your fall too badly, in case you need it! A very jovial bunch. They advise the reserved appointment of 1:30hr is usually cut down to :30 by the time the average by the time folks get tired of trying their luck. Skate rental's included in the price of purchase. Fun to do for a date, for kids, or just to try out on your own!

Skates are cheap and terrible. The ice is very jagged and unfinished. I'm a pretty good skater and this made me feel like a child learning for the first time. Horrible experience. Maybe I didn't see it or look good enough but the tickets are for certain times. We only had 30 min to skate they told us when we arrived. :/

Wow, I felt like in the movies at this place, so many people and very organized. The prices were not that high, even though I prefer not to try to ice skate because I was a little bit afraid. The vibe in here was amazing and the line didn't feel so bad even thou it was a long one.

A free outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Chicago? Unheard of! On Michigan avenue in Millennium park, right on front of the Park Grill restaurant, this outdoor ice skating rink is free of you bring your own skates. If you are willing to pay $12 Monday through Thursday, $14 Friday, Saturday and Sunday & holidays to rent skates , and wait in line sometimes up to an hour, you can still enjoy ice skating in one of the most beautiful locations in the city. Lockers are first come, first served so get there early. There are also ice skating lessons several times a week, but, I do not know if they are free or not. Open from November 17th thru March 4th, weather permitting, check their website for more information: https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/dca/supp_info/millennium_park10.html

One of the best outings during the Christmas holidays! Skating next to the Chicago Christmas tree and the bean above. My mother flew in for the holidays and this was one of her favorite activities. You can rent skates there and skate as long as you'd like. My mom lasted long enough to get a picture and fall twice lol

I can't skate. Hell, I can't even stand up on skates and walk to the rink. Damn those weak ankles. However, if I could skate this is the place I would show off my talents. I had so much fun people watching here. Or should I say skater watching. Everyone here was having such a great time. There were experienced skaters who seemed to be fantasizing about being in the Olympics and others who kept falling. I would be in the falling group. Some of the falls I would score a 10 for gracefulness and others for creative silliness. No one seemed to be seriously hurt. My friend made me leave, he was a wimp and getting cold. If you're a skater and in Chicago be sure to visit Millennium Park Ice Rink.

I absolutely loved how organized it was for skate rental ($10 flat fee - men's skates only so ladies beware of the no toe pick!).

It was really nice to enjoy all the attractions and the lights without having to fight people for space. It was quite easy to take photos of all the decorations too. I paid for entry and ice skating, and while I'm not much of a skater myself, I had a nice time on the rink! If you're a more distinguished skater, you might want to bring your own skates, but I have a feeling you'd be doing that anyway! The bumper cars were surprisingly funny and I had a good time figuring out the control configuration that would let me optimize rear-ending my sister as much as possible. The things they have on sale, nutcrackers, candies, hats and sweaters, were surprisingly well priced. The food and drinks were also well priced. In Fulton Market, at a pop-up, you become a little cynical and expect insane pricing but it actually was quite fair. I picked up some cute cookie tins as a last minute gift. All in all, the Jack Frost pop-up was a lovely surprise and with its excellent location in Fulton Market, you have plenty of dinner options for later! I do highly recommend a weeknight to avoid crowds!

Playing up there with the Chicago skyline in the background makes it feel like a special event automatically -- especially around sunset and under the lights. It's easily one of the coolest places to host a game in the city. The field itself was in great condition -- clean turf, well marked lines, and plenty of space to play competitively without feeling crowded. Everything felt organized and ready when we arrived. Shoutout to Gabriel on the staff -- he was extremely helpful throughout the process. From booking to day-of coordination, he made everything smooth and stress-free. It made a big difference knowing someone was on top of the details so we could just enjoy the games. The teqball table was also a huge hit. It gave everyone something fun to do before and after matches, and not many places offer that. It added a unique touch to the whole experience. Between the skyline views, quality field, helpful staff, and fun extras like the teqball table, this was an awesome birthday setup. I'd definitely book it again.

Since I was in town for business, I wanted to find some unique things to do while I was in town…read more When I first heard about Skate by the Lake, I laughed and laughed some more. How could there be an outdoor rink at the start of summer and be able to stay frozen?! I brought my skates cause I wanted to try out a couple different rinks but this one was far down on my list. Sure enough, the one Wednesday I was in town the weather was cool enough and the rink was open. The cashier sitting in the trailer (aka box office) was not happy. When I walked up, he played with his phone while attempting to help me. Very lethargic and indifferent. Listen kid, there are plenty people out there who would love your job or any for that matter so please quit and let someone who appreciates employment to better serve visitors coming to Chicago. On the other hand, I met a nice skate guard by the name of Gerald. A kid who recently learned to skate and might just be interested in playing hockey some day. This guy has a good head on his shoulders and deservingly five stars for service but also his willingness to learn. I've been playing hockey for many years so I wanted to give him a couple tips. Of course no one gets it on their first, second or third shot but as a witness, this guy came super close! The rink is square with a tent over it. A disco ball descends from the center of the tent and at night is when all the crazy lights go on. The ice itself is surprisingly good and rivals that of many indoor rinks across town. For $10 (if you have your own skates) is not a bad deal at all. I mean who can say they skated outside in the summer months next to Lake Michigan? Many families showed up as well as big groups of friends. It's definitely fun and comes highly recommended to go out and have fun!
