This is my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast, and let me tell you WOW! My boyfriend and i wanted to take a spontaneous last minute trip up to twain hart I searched around and stumbled upon McCaffery Bed and Breakfast looked at the reviews and felt confident! In all honesty i was a little weary since this was my first time but I am so grateful for the accommodations Stephanie provided. The house as it is looks stunning. The room ( Mocha Room) so beautifully neutral tones, comfortable bed, Fireplace and stunning views. Don't even get me started on the amazing breakfast she provided. Hospitality was overall outstanding

We really love this place. We were married here 15 years ago and have returned to spend our 15 anniversary here. This place has so much love and beauty, I'd recommend if you are ever in the area.

A winter wonderland!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and Stephanie was just so wonderful. She made us feel like we were staying in the closest family members house you could think of. We had the mocha room (upgraded by her because she's a sweetie) and it was beautiful, CLEAN, and the sheets were so soft and cozy I almost didn't want to leave. All in all, we WILL be back. This is our new "go to" get away when we need to get away from our own fur kids for a night but not be too far from home.

Lovely common room, wine and cheese 5 to 6pm

We spent a few days here and were so comfortable in the homey atmosphere and so welcomed by the McCaffrey's. We highly recommend this B&B.

We arrived to Sonora by way of Ebbetts Pass, winding down through crystal alpine lakes, faerytale meadows and boulders and forests that speak in quiet and ancient tongues. The pass opened upon amber grasses contrasted against lovely sagey-colored trees and verdant yet rugged vineyards. It turns out the Victorian-inspired Barretta Gardens is overseen with a care as golden as the hue of sepia-colored days gone past and motherlodes once legendary for their bounty. Yet breakfasts are as simple, elegant and memorable as any contemporary B&B can boast. The proprietors Astrid and Daniel run an inn as refreshing as the Moroccan mint tea set out every afternoon to greet us from a hot day exploring Gold Country. We found Barretta Gardens flexible and welcoming to our two boys as well. Our only suggestion is that if they choose to turn off each room's A/C while guests are away for the day that they would turn it back on in anticipation for their return in the evening. Baretta Gardens B&B is a rare treasure I hope more visitors to the area will mine for years more to come.

There was also coffee in the room and a full coffee/tea bar in the dining area. The facility had a library den full of interesting titles, puzzles, and games. We LOVED the breakfasts. The menu included many choices: french toast, waffle, omelet, potatoes, veggies, eggs to order, bacon, toast, english muffin and fruit. The portions were extremely generous! The staff were all great including owner Michael who was very attentive to questions we had. We've also stayed at another of his properties (The Victoria Inn) which was also lovely. We definitely plan to be back and I can hardly wait! While we were in the area we ate at Jesus' Restaurant (Mexican across the street), Firewood (delicious pizza), and coffee at Aria. We also enjoyed hard cider at Indigeny Reserve! I definitely recommend staying at the Dunbar!

This place is a cozy, green oasis in one of the cutest towns in America, and the value is incredible. They let us have the run of the place for the whole weekend while we hosted and set up. The staff made it feel like home -- such kind and lovely people. Breakfast for our wedding party was included. Anything we asked for, they made it happen, and we were able to control every aspect of the event: bar, catering, etc. Another perk I didn't anticipate was a 360 view of the venue from the bridal suite, which allowed me to keep an eye on everything while I was getting ready. The suite is basically an apartment, with a full kitchen we were able to cater our rehearsal dinner out of. Most of our guests were able to stay the weekend and walk to the venue from their hotels (they make it easy with their sister hotel the Victoria Inn and associated rentals). Our wedding was a dream that we're sad to wake up from. If this place calls to you, do not hesitate to book.

Review #160 - 2020…read more This review was previously written as a 3-star, but then my son came home and realized a few days later that he had forgotten his $200 Ferragamo belt in one of the drawers. Normally, my son shares a room with his younger sister and I; but since his cousins begged him to stay with them, he couldn't say no. If he'd stayed in the same room as us, he would've never forgotten anything because I always tell him to double check everything. He called the owner on Thursday, August 27th, and the owner said he had the belt in his possession. Thank goodness! The owner told us that he would mail it to us--as long as I provided my credit card info to pay for the shipping fee (which I had no problem with), but he didn't know when he would have the time to head to the post office. Fast forward to Monday, August 31st, and the belt arrived safely in our mailbox! Talk about staying on top of it! The hotel may be a 3-star stay, but customer service is definitely 10-star worthy! Thank you!!! ---------------------------------------------- I previously booked a cabin for 12 people about two months ago and as our trip drew near, the group size grew to 16 people so the cabin owner had to cancel our reservation the day before our trip. I was pretty disappointed because all my nieces and nephews were super excited about staying at the cabin. Sadly, they weren't able to accommodate us so I had to start looking for a back up plan. I was able to book four rooms at The Christmas Tree Inn at $160/night. Luckily, my siblings weren't too disappointed with the last minute change. We showed up at around 4 PM on Saturday, August 22nd for an overnight stay. Check-in was super quick and easy. My siblings actually showed up about an hour before me since I had to make a few stops to pick up food & drinks for our group. The owner was nice & easy going. He didn't make a big deal out of the fact that I forgot my mask. Check out was just as easy. He just told us to leave our keys in the room and close the door. The room was clean, but pretty outdated. The a/c worked very well, thank goodness, because it was 90° out plus the smoke from the fire didn't help. There's a picnic table right out front so we made good use of it for our late lunch and breakfast the next morning. There's plenty of available parking since our group was probably the only ones there. The hotel is less than half an hour away from Pinecrest Lake, which was nice.

We wanted to slow down and enjoy a quiet weekend. This is THE perfect place for that. The location is outstanding, nestled amongst the trees with great views. Followed by German pancakes, made from apples grown on site, bacon, coffee and OJ. We didn't have breakfast on Sunday as we were meeting a friend, but it sure smelled yummy! They also put out a fresh dessert each evening. The attention to detail, luxury items, comfortable bed and cleanliness make this a safe bet. It's lovely, but not pretentious. My husband…read moreand I are originally from the Bay Area and have enjoyed great restaurants all over the world, so we're picky. Compared to other restaurants in the area, including the casinos, I'd give it a 5, but compared to what The Branch is now versus what it could be, I give it a four. To start, we were seated next to a couple with a cranky, noisy toddler. It's a small space to begin with, so there was no place to move to. Not the fault of the restaurant, but it distracted from our experience. The seasonal menu is balanced and not too ambitious or pretentious. To start we both chose the root salad. It featured a nice mix of fresh and pickled vegetables, but my salad had way too many pickled red onions (which I don't care for) that weighed down the greens. The beet swoosh was delicious and I wish there were more beets in the salad. For mains, my husband selected the rendered duck breast and I opted for the short rib shepherd's pie. The duck gets high marks for being tender and flavorful, however it was slightly overcooked and the skin wasn't crispy. I suspect that it had been cooked sous vide in advance and then finished in a skillet prior to serving. Nothing wrong with that, but it was just past medium. My shepherd's pie featured nice fresh carrots and peas, fork-tender short rib and a too-generous blanket of silky, fluffy mashed potatoes. The sauce, unfortunately, seemed under-seasoned and the mashed potato topping wasn't browned (just piped on top). The dessert (dulce de leche cheesecake) was a bit disappointing. The strong spice level of the crust eclipsed the flavor of the filling. A couple bites were enough for me, but my husband finished the piece. One really picky point: the water glasses are mason jars. In my experience, they develop small chips in the rim with constant use. Sure enough, my glass had a tiny ding in the rim that I had to avoid. I would encourage the restaurant to ditch the cute-quaint jars in favor of tumblers. (And, yes, I did mention this to our server to pass along to management.) Service was attentive, friendly and not intrusive. Prices are in line with our expectations of a nice restaurant. We'll go back in few months to check out the new seasonal menu. Definitely worth a trip!
