Fabulous B&B! Our room was very comfortable with a breathtaking view of the forest and wildlife. OH, and the sheets....as soft as butter! The update is that they are LYING. Putting a guest NEXT to a homeless person and someone with COVID is a problem. I tried for over an hour to get in touch with Stephanie, who was watching TV and ignoring calls. I also emailed and went down and screamed her name. If there is someone living there with COVID, then don't put a guest there. I still can't believe they refused to refund as I had to drive away in the dark and find another place. SIGH. Stephanie, the innkeeper, was extremely accommodating when we needed to move our reservation up one day earlier. We had some wonderful talks on the phone and she and her family were very gracious to my husband, my daughter and myself, as well as our dog. My boyfriend and i wanted to take a spontaneous last minute trip up to twain hart I searched around and stumbled upon McCaffery Bed and Breakfast looked at the reviews and felt confident! This was our first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast. We didn't know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised. The best way to describe it is that it was like visiting a friend's home where you are provided your own bed and bath. There was a living room to enjoy a glass of wine or two before leaving for dinner and each morning we enjoyed breakfast in the dining room. Speaking of breakfast, I was expecting a buffet style service but was so wrong. We were served the usual coffee and juice along with a small bowl of fruit topped with a dollop of yogurt with a different entree each morning. Everything was delicious. Our hosts were wonderful As I stated earlier, it was like visiting with friends. Our dog even had her own friends to hang with. Their resident dog Ollie was just the cutest as were their visiting "grand pups" Buddha and Paul. We may make this place one of our annual vacation spots. If I were to find a negative it would be that they had poor cellular service but if you are intentionally wanting to get away from it all, then it isn't a big deal. There was a phone connected to a land line in our for local calls or emergencies and if you absolutely needed to use your cell, you could get in your car and drive a few hundred yards in either direction. A friend of mine drove up from LA to visit me last March and attempted to spend the night at this inn. All was hunky dory until the owners son started hacking up half a lung alarming all of the guests. What's worse the proprietor went to sleep and could not be found to address the issue! The result was my own household spending good part of the night finding other accommodations for my friend nearby. Good grief! Imagine being a city person driving through Blair Witch darkness to the nearest hotel. Talk about traveling from the Overland to the Bates! Jinkies, how irresponsible can a proprietor be? When you work in a service industry BE AVAILABLE! Don't delegate administrative responsibilities to snot-nosed kids who can't even avoid catching COVID after two boosters. Don't stay at this place. If you've ever seen Doc Martin, the management is comparable to Bert Large and Son! read more

Please note, that I have reached out to the owner before writing this review and as of today, I have not received a response. I am guessing that the owners once were gracious but are now rude and offensive. From me being attacked in front of other guests for drinking her son's "irreplaceable" beer which was kept in the guest-accessible refrigerator along with sodas, water, and wine that was offered to guests to being rudely reminded that check-out time was 11 am even though the roads were closed due to snow and the stairs out of the house were iced over, I've never been so offended and upset. The house is surrounded by nature's beauty but desperately needs updating (think early 1990's). Make sure that you do not get a room in the front as you will hear traffic noise all night. The "gourmet" breakfast consists of pre-made casseroles and they ran out of coffee and creamer. Please, please, please look elsewhere for a place to stay if you are in Tuolumne County!! read more

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and Stephanie was just so wonderful. She made us feel like we were staying in the closest family members house you could think of. We had the mocha room (upgraded by her because she's a sweetie) and it was beautiful, CLEAN, and the sheets were so soft and cozy I almost didn't want to leave. All in all, we WILL be back. We spent 2 nights here recently. It is a nicely appointed property and very clean. Complete breakfasts are available every morning and are very good. We enjoyed spending time on the wrap-around porch and enjoying an evening beverage. My 3 star rating is based on the fact that the property is challenging for anyone with mobility issues. I have a hard time with stairs so I called in advance to determine what room would be best for me. I did receive a suggestion but no mention was made of the staircase leading from the upper level parking down to the house itself. i was surprised by this when we arrived. Navigating the stairs every time we left the house caused frustration for me. It would be much appreciated if the website could highlight the information about the stairs for future guests. This is the perfect getaway!!! We felt welcome straight away. Ollie and Stephanie greeted us with so much warmth and kindness. Our room was absolutely perfect. We stayed at the McCaffrey House for a few nights in the summer with plans to visit Yosemite during our time there. Unfortunately, a fire had broken out in the park, so we were faced with changing our plans in order to avoid the smoke. Luckily for us, Stephanie and the hosts were very kind and helpful! Stephanie was able to offer us alternative things to do, recommendations for places to eat, and directions (which were helpful considering our cellular service ended up being pretty spotty in the area). I was also thrilled that their household pets were hanging around the property -- they were very sweet and friendly as well. Breakfast was served at 9AM and was very impressive and filling. It was nice to have some homemade meals to start our days! The staff didn't repeat any breakfasts for the 3 mornings we were there. Coffee and orange juice are available, as well as cereal for anyone who prefers that. The house is conveniently located near the town of Twain Harte, so grabbing lunch and dinner was just a short drive away. It's a little over 2 hours to get to the valley in Yosemite, but the drive didn't seem too bad (we did end up venturing into the park one day, despite the fire). Our room was nicely kept and spacious enough for two of us. I was happy that there was a private bathroom in the room! Housekeeping came by daily and offered extra toiletries and new towels if needed along with making the bed, etc. The house was pretty quiet at night, which was nice considering the rooms are pretty close together -- it is a house, after all! There is Wi-Fi, which is nice coverage for when cell service is unavailable. There are also a couple nice little home-y touches that we appreciated -- TVs in the rooms, fresh robes, dishes of candy, etc. We enjoyed our stay here, and we will certainly be returning and recommending it to friends and family! read more

I stayed here with my 6-year-old the night before a ski day at Dodge Ridge. We had the most wonderful time at McCaffrey B&B. Stephanie, the owner, welcomed us warmly, and their dinner service (a new service during the pandemic) was out of this world, a 3-course restaurant-style meal! If you're going skiing in Dodge Ridge, then the McCaffrey House is the perfect one-stop-shop location. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds complete the picture. Highly recommended. read more

Sometimes finding a perfect getaway in the Yosemite area can be challenging. Some places are really basic while the nice places can be exorbitant. McCaffrey House strikes the perfect balance. Hubby and I had a wonderful 2 night stay as a stop on the way to northern California for a business meeting. Located one hour from the north gate of Yosemite in the quaint town of Twain Harte, this boutique b&b is conveniently located off of HWY 108 but doesn't have the noise issues that some other highway adjacent inns or hotels may have. Stephanie and Michael are the perfect hosts, welcoming and warm. Dolores the housekeeper also goes out of her way to make sure that you're having a good stay. Dogs are welcome if you want to bring you're furry family members along. If you don't have any furry family members you'll find lovely surrogates in Finnigan (dog) and Granite (cat) the pet ambassadors for the inn. If you're in the area make sure to do yourself a favor and book a night or two at the McCaffrey house. You won't regret it, just book early as they stay full. read more

I had a quick stay but absolutely loved it. The room was a good size, but also quaint and cozy. The sheets are absolutely amazing and I want to buy some for myself. And I got to wake up to a view of neverending trees, which is just the most calm way to wake up. I had a really early morning and the owner was so sweet to wake up early to make sure I had a yummy breakfast before I left. Definitely plan to come back. read more

The McCaffreys, staff, and Oli were awesome. Everyone was so welcoming, and no detail was excluded. The house is beautiful, very warming, and very clean. I spent a couple of nights here on a quick trip to the snow. The house is gorgeous and the breakfast is phenomenal. The house is really toooo nice for small children or dogs. Even though they advertise as dog and kid friendly, I think dog and kid tolerant is more accurate. I was there at Christmas and the house was a showplace of decorations. My daughter, who was about 4, was reprimanded for playing with a train (she didn't damage it in any way). My small dog had a small boo boo after our long journey, even though I'd walked him before we checked in. I think he was just disoriented and over-excited. I was made to feel mortified. I'd highly recommend for a couple but not for a family with small kids or dogs. read more

The house is beautiful, the setting is spectacular (we looked over the forest and creek behind the house), breakfast was sublime and Stephanie (and Olli the dog) were fantastic hosts for our stay. I make a reservation on Hotels.com at 8:30pm on a Sunday night. Then five minutes later I get a rude phone call from the inn keeper saying she didn't get a credit card payment for one night. This place is absolutely one of the best B&B's I have ever stayed at. From the moment we arrived, with beautiful snow falling. Greeted by "Oli" and welcomed into what would be our home for 2 nights. That is exactly what it felt like- a home. Stephanie and Michael work extremely hard to make their guests comfortable, happy and appreciated. We had the Blue Room and it was wonderful. The room was large with a nice deck and lots of light from all the windows. The best wording for this place is "it's a beautiful B&B and 5 star hotel combination". We enjoyed the Wine & Cheese hour and both morning meals were delicious. It snowed throughout our stay and my husband said it was like being inside a snow globe. Watching the bird feeder not to mention the squirrel feeder while staying cozy inside. The Wi-Fi is excellent and the staff that assists the McCaffrey's are very friendly and work extremely hard. We cannot wait to return to this destination in the summertime. It has so much to offer, but the hosts are what made it so special. read more

Amazing! This beautiful B&B house was designed and built by the owners just for this purpose. The rooms are large and accommodating with balconies and private bathrooms. Each room is beautifully decorated and appointed to fit an individual theme. The bed and linens were so comfortable the only thing that could pry me out in the mornings was the home cooked breakfasts with hot food (today was eggs-Benedict... YUM!!). The hosts, Stephanie and Michael were very nice and helpful, they made our stay here so comfortable and with the home cooked breakfasts, it was like being at home with family. The house is located among lots of activities whether it be a trip to Yosemite, skiing in the mountains, going to Murphys for a wine tour or hiking among the sequoias. If you aren't sure what to do, just ask Stephanie.. she definitely knows the area. I can't think of any problems or issues with my stay here. I have seen some negative postings on Yelp for this house but it seems that those folks have problems with pet allergies or steps so if that's the worst thing you can come up with, I just gotta say that my feeling is that if you are going to surround yourself by nature in the mountains, you are going to meet up with animals and steps so just leave those issues behind and enjoy your stay here. read more

Wow! Stephanie and the staff at McCaffrey made our first bed and breakfast experience a true delight. We will definitely be back. When we first arrived the front door seemed to open by itself, but it was opened by a friendly dog named Finnegan. Then Stephanie was there to introduce herself and give us a tour of the house. We were offered a bottle of wine, glasses and a corkscrew to take up to our lovely room - the Lupin Room. It was cozy and well decorated. There was also a plate of chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us. There is a black iron fire stove in the room that kept us toasty at night. The next morning we went downstairs for the 9am daily breakfast and sat with another couple staying there. The highlight of breakfast is the gourmet food! Stephanie is a great cook! What a treat! Not only that, but we were able to enjoy our meal and watch the snow fall for the first time that season. It was beautiful. A member of her staff, Marlene I believe was here name, gave us suggestions for the day. We explored the surronding towns and made it back to the house for our 4pm couples massage which was wonderful and led to a nap on our comfy bed. That night we were able to watch a favorite comedy DVD from home in our room as the rooms have TV's, Direct TV, and DVD players. Our last morning began with another breakfast which was prepared by Patricia as Stephanie was out. The bread pudding recipe was Stephanie's and was deliciously prepared by Patricia. Soon after, we checked out and headed home. This place is a gem and I highly recommend it. read more

What an absolutely fabulous bed & breakfast. The inn keepers Stephanie and Michael are delightful, friendly, and full of great day trip and restaurant suggestions. The breakfast meals that Stephanie prepared were scrumptious. We stayed in the Evergreen room, which had a great view of the surrounding woods and a porch (which we didn't use since it wasn't exactly balmy out). There is really nothing better than waking up and seeing the snow falling. And having a fireplace all to your own! Would definitely recommend, though just don't plan on visiting the same night I do, I call dibs on the Evergreen room! read more

I can't say enough good things about this B&B. The owners, Stephanie and Michael, are so nice and welcoming. The B&B is adorable, nestled into the woods, and feels like you are in New England, not California. My boyfriend and I went primarily to hike in Yosemite. From the B&B to the parking lot of our trails inside the park was about a two hour drive, but after 45 minutes or so you are into the park and drive is FANTASTIC. As we were planning on leaving early each day, I figured we would be missing out on breakfast, but booked our stay here anyway because of the good reviews I'd seen. To our delight, when we arrived, Stephanie told us to just let her know if we'd be leaving early any days and she'd have a to-go breakfast ready for us. The to-go breakfast was awesome and honestly enough for the entire day - it had fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and a muffin - for each of us! They also do complimentary afternoon wine and cheese that is very relaxed. There's a little porch outside facing into the woods that is a great place to sit and enjoy the scenery. And, there's comfortable robes!!!!!!!! We absolutely loved our stay here and will absolutely be back for our next trip to Yosemite. read more

This place is wonderful! Cozy, comfy, homey. We (me and my husband) stayed for 2 nights on 9/19 and 9/20. Everything is very well kept. Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, glasses, cups, cookie jars, all very clean and dust free. Stephanie is an excellent cook. Both breakfast she served were fresh and delicious! She and her husband, Michael, are very welcoming. The other housekeeper, Marlene, also very helpful and friendly. We shared stories with the other guests during breakfast. Very fun. After that, everyone gone doing their own business. We are free to use the living room to read book, or watch dvd. Assorted cookies always available 24/7. The surroundings very serene. I could just sit on the patio and watch the birds and squirrels play. Their pets (Finnigan, Blue and Granite) are friendly and polite. We really enjoyed our stay here. It beats staying at hotel (my personal opinion). Exchanging stories with Stephanie and other guests has enriched my life experience. The guests could get socializing time as much as they want, the same goes with privacy. They let us be when we done socializing. And, the complimentary welcome champagne and chocolates, plus the bedside chocolate, were tasty. (Oh, one more thing, at day, we roamed the Yosemite area. At night, we strolled the downtown Twain Hearte, only 5 minutes drive from the house. We found The Rock, who served delicious hamburger and the local best apple cider. They brewed good beers, too!) Definitely recommended. This Bed and Breakfast is an enjoyable 1-1.5 hour drive from Yosemite National Park or about 1 hour from Calaveras Big Trees (an awesome place to view the Giant Sequoias). Our hosts, Stephanie and Michael were wonderful with suggestions for day trips as well as local restaurants. Very accomadating, we wanted to leave early and their early breakfast at 7:30 am was just what we needed to get up and on the road to sight-see. Made our trip memorable. read more

My wife and I stayed here recently for our anniversary (on a LivingSocial deal). The owners were unfailingly kind and hospitable. The food was excellent, the room was well appointed and comfortable, and the service was the bend-over-backwards to make you happy type. There was a scheduling hiccup for our massage that was unfortunate, but the innkeeper worked feverishly to correct it. We would definitely like to stay here again! read more
